Lieberman at the Republican Convention?

The Wall Street Journal perpetuates the rumor that independent Senator Joe Lieberman may address the Republican Convention this summer;
Joe Lieberman is perhaps the most mild-mannered of Senators, but his fellow Democrats are stewing over the prospect of him giving a keynote address for his friend John McCain at the GOP National Convention in Minneapolis. Though nothing appears to have been decided, Lieberman staffers think it very likely that such a speech will be made.
That would be the sweetest revenge for Lieberman, I’m sure, after going from his party’s VP candidate in 2000 to being the target of their attempts to unseat him six years later. Although his stance on the war is attractive, there’s little more about his politics to admire from a conservative view point. Especially since he threw his pro-Life creds under the bus to become the VP candidate for Al Gore (who also threw his pro-Life creds under the bus a decade earlier than Joe).
But sticking his finger in the eye of the Democrats’ leadership could be a satisfying moment in a year devoid of many satisfying moments – a Zell Miller moment.
The WSJ concludes;
Indeed, when asked yesterday if Mr. Lieberman’s chairmanship would be in jeopardy in a more Democratic Senate, Mr. Reid told reporters tersely: “No.”
Nonetheless, you can bet there will be a lot of clenched teeth and tongue-biting if Mr. Lieberman mounts the stage of the Minneapolis convention and endorses a Republican on national television.
