Suspected teenage home invader shot, critically injured in Lake County

Averi Kremposky
MASCOTTE, Fla. —
A 16-year-old was shot and critically injured during a home invasion, Mascotte police say.

Police say the teen who was shot may have tried to break into at least two homes.

According to officials, Mascotte officers responded to an in-progress home invasion at Pine Needle Drive just after 6 a.m. on Dec. 28. There, they located a teenage male suspect who was shot by the homeowner.

The suspect was treated by Lake County EMS before being transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Officials say he is listed in critical condition.

According to officers, nobody in the home was injured and they are cooperating in the investigation, so they won’t be facing any charges.

Officers believe the suspect may be linked to an earlier call of a young man attempting to break into another residence in that area. This is an ongoing investigation.

1 dead after argument leads to deadly shooting in Spartanburg County, officials say

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. —
A homicide investigation is underway after an argument turns into a deadly shooting, according to Lt. Kevin Bobo with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Bobo says on Friday, around 7:50 p.m., deputies responded to a home on Long Branch Road in regards to a shooting.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a man in the yard with two visible gunshot wounds, according to Bobo. Deputies provided aid to the shooting victim until EMS arrived and took him to the hospital, Bobo says.

According to Bobo, the man died at the hospital during surgery.

Coroner Rusty Clevenger with the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Joshua Lee Waters, 47, of Chesnee.

Clevenger says Waters died from his injuries around 9:25 p.m. at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Bobo says other people at the home were separated and interviewed. The homeowner and a witness were both taken to his office for more interviews.

“Lieutenant Bobo.” OK I’m past that now, but just barely. When separated and interviewed one’s reply is “I will make a statement with legal counsel present.”

Thanks Gun Bunny.

I’m a sportsman. You know, I go out clay shooting and put three shells in.

The quote is a bit arcane, but that’s not the sporting clays that I recall.

That 16-year-old got his street cred. He’ll be patched up, do a little time in juvie and be back on the streets bangin’ and slangin’ in no time. I’ve heard decent things about the Hi-Point carbines. Namely, they’re remarkably reliable and priced very reasonably. I’ve handled a few at work, though, and really don’t care for them. Now, if I were on a really tight budget and only had $500 to spend while wanting to be the most patriotic 2A multi-gun owning American possible, I’d buy this Hi-Point 45TS Carbine Semi-Auto Rifle in American Flag Finish | Bass Pro Shops along with a Hi-Point pistol. Truth be told, I did own a Hi-Point once. Strassell’s Machine, Inc. has various production facilities, and the .40 S&W version is marked “Iberia”. I had one I think I gave $20 for in the ’90s but that thing was worn out to the point of being unsafe and, besides, I already had my Beretta, so I got rid of it ASAP. I didn’t know Iberia was still a thing until we got an online order Hi-Point JCP (.40) in a while back. The pistols especially leave much to be desired, with lower-capacity single stack mags, and excessively large and heavy frames and slides to soak up recoil for their blowback design. Even so, I’ve been tempted to pick one up. We don’t stock them, but oddly enough, two customers who’d ordered them online self-prohibited, so I put the pistols out and they sold reasonably fast. I’ll stick to my Ruger PC Carbine and a Glock for a carbine/pistol combo, but eventually, if the prices is right or we buy a used one for some reason, I may pick up a HP. I’ve already started down the path of buying less-than stellar guns, with my Stevens 320 picked up on clearance (so I wouldn’t have to change the price) and the used Tristar Cobra bought for under $90. The used gun guy has a policy of paying $50 for cheaper guns like Tristars, Citadels, and Heritage revolvers (the latter being pretty good for what they… Read more »

I’d be more amenable to the .45 carbine if it used standard 1911 mags.

That young lad needs to take a critical look at his victim selection skilz.

Drunk and argumentative is no way to go thru life. It’s a dead end.

“I was in fear for my life. I want a lawer!” Then STFU!

Elly Mae took out sporting clays with a slingshot. Granny used a double barrel. “FLING!”

Nothing like a caliber adhering to The Gospel According to His Most Saintly, John Moses Browning (Howitzer Be His Name) to start the FIRST of the year.
