Reading that made my eyes bleed.

Historic pistols and revolvers are two things I lack in my collection. The linked NRA write-up estimated that the pictured gun would go for about $650, 11.5 years ago. Now, I’d hate to see what it would cost. The problem with older guns is that they aren’t being made anymore. Sure, you can get a new-production Springfield or FN SA_35/Hi-Power, or whatever you want to call it, but an original is going to set you back quite a bit. There is/was a store that was getting batches of surplus pistols in, with some surplus Hi-Powers selling for under $500, but every time they’d upload a video showing off the goods, they’d already be sold out. I need to see if they’re still around, as I haven’t seen anything from them in a while.
Yep, here’s a newer video about some Hi-Powers: Surplus FN Hi-Powers (youtube.com), and their site: SHOP | the-mosin-crate (themosincrate.com)
The 1900 evolved from Browning’s first semi-auto pistol design, and the Hi-Power from his final design. The mark that man left on firearms design and culture in general is indelible.
I may be a bit biased, but I love Inglis Hi-Powers. Except for that stupid mag safety.
Why would you prefer a small club over a single shot pistol??
My first pistol was a PPK/S (traded for a Taurus 85 revolver), but first gained a lot of experience with the M92F I still own. No mag safety, if there’s a round in the chamber, the manual safety is disengaged, and the trigger is pulled, it goes “BOOM”.
In the mid-2000s, my brother wanted me to look at a S&W Model 39 that wouldn’t work. He didn’t have a magazine (knowing what I know about him now, it was probably stolen), so I ordered one and was perplexed. I disassembled the gun and found the issue myself, then later confirmed my analysis online. Mag safety; never really heard much about them until then.
It seems that the much-maligned magazine safety is something that some police departments mandate for officer safety. We military folks don’t want or need them. If we’re fighting with pistols, something’s gone wrong, and that last shot beats a bayonet to the gut. I get it, training varies by department, and I can see where some weapons retention training might suggest dropping a mag as a last resort if overpowered by an aggressor.
I like to have fully functional firearms with minimal mechanical safeties. So long as it’s drop-safe and only fires with a pull of the trigger, I’m good. Magazine, grip, manual, and other safety features are good for those less comfortable or familiar with firearms. I will admit that I train to engage a manual safety on reholstering, though, if that’s available.
Pfffft. You’d LOVE a pistol that I have, a S&W 40C in 40S&W. No. Safeties. What. So. Ever.
Really, only one safety, to remember to keep your booger hook off the bang switch until you’re ready to shoot. When it’s in your hand, it’s HOT.
You are correct about the prices for collectible value guns. I have some I used to shoot in cowboy action matches, that are now too valuable for that wear and tear. I have a number of guns that have tripled in value just in the past 35 years.
There were three (3) different linkys to the ABQ story…and no new details in any of them. And, nope…couldn’t find an original that had less details. DaHell?!!?? Read, re-read, and then read each one again, scratching my watch and winding my ass, trying to figure out if it was a FGS or just an article on the trash taking out the trash. My DDG (Digital Decision Generator) told me to kick it upstairs to our Beloved AW1Ed and let him decide. After all…that’s why he makes the Big Bucks…Right? I mean, like any dood that is wanting to ride around in a Naval Aviation Platform with the wings and motors mounted all catty whompus, that can’t land on a floating airfield, snooping around for some innocent bubble headed Ivan, or uses a helio-coptor as a diving platform has got to be crazy enough to make sense of this story.
We need a Bull Moose to clean up the Bull Sh*t that passes for morals these days.
Y’all do notice that the click bait that our Beloved AW1Ed posts, depicting the works of HMS JMB (HBHN), is just more proof that ‘Ed lubs his Gun Bunny and wants him to be happy? It has nothing at all to do with sending the Gun Bunny down a rabbit hole to keep him occupied and out of trouble.
My last federal contracting job was for a company based in Albuquerque. Wasn’t terribly impressed by the place. 90% shithole, 10% tourist trap.
Damn near 100% liberal dem stronghold
Did the author of that piece even attend an English class in high school, if only to sleep?
Dang.
Blame the editor/proof reader as well. (S)He’s the one that should read, re-read, edit, check, double check and correct whatever the Presstitutes send in (can’t call ’em “reporters”) before the story hits the media.
“…next to at least two bullet riddled vehicles. The vehicles were parked inside the parking lot of a body shop at that location”.
Man, vehicles get fucked up inside the parking lot of a body shop. Talk about LUCK!!
Hope the owners buy some lottery tickets.
