Maine’s senators call for investigation of U.S. Army’s interaction with Maine shooter

| November 8, 2023

Maine’s two senators are calling on the U.S. Army to provide an account of the interactions between members of the Army and Robert Card. His fellow soldiers raised the alarm about him, with one of their text messages stating that Card was going to snap and do a mass shooting. His apparent mental state during one of his military training periods resulted in his being hospitalized for two weeks. The above photo is not that of Card.

From Fox News:

Fellow soldiers expressed concerns about Card’s mental health before the Oct. 25 shootings. One of them sent a text message in September saying, “I believe he’s going to snap and do a mass shooting,” according to law enforcement.

The senators view their federal request as working in tandem with an independent commission that Democratic Gov. Janet Mills is convening to explore the facts related to the shooting, including the police response.

“As we continue to grieve the needless loss of life that day, we must work to fully understand what happened — and what could have been done differently that might have prevented this tragedy — on the local, state, and federal levels,” the senators wrote.

The senators posed several questions including under what circumstances the Army reports personnel to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, and when the Army seeks to invoke state laws to temporarily remove firearms from a soldier’s possession.

An Army spokesperson confirmed that the letter was received and that the inspector general will “work towards getting a response.” The spokesperson had no further comment.

Concerns over Card’s mental health during military training led to a 14-day hospitalization at the Four Winds Psychiatric Hospital in Katonah, New York, last summer. The worries continued after Card returned home to Maine.

Fox News has the balance of the story here.

Again…
These people don’t “just snap” or “go off the deep end one day”. Its a process to descend into madness. There are warning signs and indicators. Sure, some subtle but this guy was walking red flag.

STSC(SW/SS)

The only thing that would have stopped Card is a good guy with a gun.

Graybeard

It’s a cinch the legal process in place were not observed.

If ‘they’ are not going to enforce the laws we have, why make new laws?

Yeah, I know. Tyranny creep.

It’s obviously not about the guns, it’s purely all about gaining more control.

Is always whole plan, comrade!

At least for the socialist democrats, it is not about laws, it is about forcible disarmament of the citizenry. They know those laws on the books are not being enforced, and they know that most of those laws don’t work to do anything anyway. All they care about is dancing in the blood and using it as fodder for low information voters to enact more gun restriction on us, so we cannot resist them when they go full nazi.

Have a feeling he didn’t shoot himself and get into the recycling bin for the police to find on his own. Kin of one of his victims found him first?

I cannot stand the sound of Collin’s voice.
Useless Rhino in hiding awaiting retirement.
And Angus King is an Independent Democrat
oportunist awaiting retirement so he can write
a book about himself.

They both want your guns.

Welp, didn’t take too long for the finger pointing/blame game to start. This dood is the wet dream of gunz grabbers everywhere. A crazy whyte boi veteran with an ebil black rifle. New push for “common sense” gunz and Red Flag Laws in 5.4.3.2..

Wonder how many times nut job shot himself in the back of the head?

A Proud Infidel®️™️

How many ignored the warning signs in fear of a lawsuit?

Old tanker

This seems to be nothing but a witch hunt for a scape goat.

I have a serious question. Was that loon a fulltime Guard member or a regular drilling member.

Either way I can’t see how they could have done anything else other than arranging for involuntary commitment. They saw the problem and stepped up. I would expect the institution to notify the authorities of the commitment. Then, the state does not have a red flag law so they had no authority to remove weapons.

Lastly what is the procedure for entering the NCIC system? To my knowledge it takes a Law Enforcement agency to do that and the Guard did talk to the local Sheriff IIRC.

David

He is described as a Reservist in every article I saw, and judging by the beard in every picture posted, may have been taken off any active or drilling status after his mental breakdown this summer. Looks like in this case the Army, whose immediate jurisdiction is only part-time, did what they should have and the local polizei should get the shit end of the stick.

And…he was on the FBI “radar”

Unfortunately, the FBI was too busy investigating moms at school board meetings.

Graybeard

What, you expect the FBI to do something about actual crimes and criminals? /s

Don’t forget their ongoing investigations of over a thousand people who attended the J6 rally.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

Yeah…..no matter who did what or how much was done, it obviously wasn’t enough to stop Card from throwing the Krazy Card and shooting people.
Two weeks involuntary hospitalization was a good start.
But where were the mental hospitals where he could have been placed for a longer time and more treatment…?
Ohhhh……that’s right. The DildoCrats closed them in the 80s, saying that they infringed on peoples’ rights……to what? Be Krazy? Be drug addicted? To NOT take the doctor prescribed Rx that might heal/cure them? To be homeless?
More blood of innocents on DildoCrat hands.

Looks like card wasn’t playing with a full deck

Off course. No one was getting rich off of methods to house and treat those who did not want to be treated. It is much better to be able to bilk billions from the Fed and State than to employ people at the County and City level and be scrutinized by the Fed and State!!

Plus if they were in an institution getting help they would not be running around on the streets spouting their beliefs and running for Congress!

Don’t forget their “rights” to live on the street and shit wherever.

ArmyATC

That clown was supposedly involuntarily committed to a mental hospital. By law he was considered a prohibited person. So why didn’t NICS flag him? It seems like another case of the government dropping the ball.

Blaster

Why???

Everyone knows it was the GUN and not the crazy guy holding it, even after a complete failure of the mental health system!

Maybe these Congressrats could better spend their time investigating the local law enforcement that were informed this looney was hearing voices, had access to firearms, and was threatening a mass shooting. Yet they did not avail themselves of the “yellow flag law.” Just another law not enforced.
