Speaking of Open Threads…I finally had a chance and a locked in signal from my inherwebz provider to make reply to the heartfelt appreciated condolences posted on the Friday WOT, by the TAH Family. Get a chance and drop by the WOT, I added some more info and clarified a detail or two on BiL Charles. His entire Family were very moved by the support that was posted by folks who didn’t know him.

I grew up in a rural area where everybody knew everybody and most of them were related. We got caramel apples, homemade fudge, popcorn balls, all that stuff you’re not supposed to have.
Same for where Mrs. Mick and I grew up.
We got fresh-baked cookies, caramel apples, brownies, popcorn balls, homemade candy, etc. All really good stuff that you’d NEVER consider letting your kids eat today.
Sad that those days are gone forever.
We also received Pennies, Bible verses rolled into little scrolls as well as popcorn balls and candy apples.
In my small town there are still some sweet old ladies who make delicious homemade sweets. They usually also have some packaged candy for parents who don’t know them .
Contaminated candy is very much an urban legend that flourished in the 80’s Stranger Danger/ Satanic Ritual Abuse BS era.
The only candy killer was this POS Ronald O’bryan who killed his own son with cyanide for the life insurance payout.

And the O’Bryan case was directed at his own children, not kids coming to the door for the annual candy extortion known as Trick or Treat.

The primary risk to children’s health and safety on Halloween is being killed by a car.
In the US, young children ages 4 to 8 are ten times as likely to be killed by a car on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Children of all ages (age 0 to 17) are three times as likely to be killed by a vehicle on Halloween than during the rest of the year.

Damn, Army Vet and Legendary Basketball coach Bobby Knight has passed. He was already well known as a college player when he joined the Army in 1962 and he was transferred to West Point as a PFC to be assistant head coach. When his hitch was up he was made youngest head coach ever at Army at the time at age of 24. After a few years he went to Indiana and the rest is legend.
