Men who cheated in Lake Erie walleye tournament learn their sentences

BY JUSTIN DENNIS

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Two men who pleaded guilty to cheating in a walleye fishing tournament on Lake Erie were sentenced to jail Thursday.

Jacob Runyan, 43, of Ashtabula, Ohio, and Chase Cominsky, 36, of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, were each indicted in October on felony charges of cheating, attempted grand theft and possessing criminal tools after it was discovered they had loaded their walleye with weights in an attempt to win the Lake Erie Walleye Trail tournament the previous month.

Each was also indicted on a misdemeanor count of illegal animal ownership.

Both Runyan and Cominsky pleaded guilty in March to the cheating and misdemeanor animal ownership charges. The remaining charges were dismissed.

Thanks, Andy. One wonders how often these now convicted felons got away with stuffing the catch.

Felonious fish enhancement. 🙄

Sounds like something dreamed up by A.P.L.

Green Thumb

They were Philletted.

SFC D

Asshats got reeled in, hook line and sinker.

STSC(SW/SS)

They got the stink eye for tampering with walleye and it’s time to say goodbye.

Green Thumb

I wonder if All-Points Logistics was one of their sponsors.

Nothing fishy about the story after the weights were discovered and the judge weighed in on the evidence and found the guys guilty.

KoB

Wonder how they will like being the “fresh fish” in Cell Block C. Bubba and the boys probably can’t “weight” til they can stuff them to the gills.

Fucknuts should have their Fishing Privileges revoked for at least ten years along with the lifelong blacklisting their shit got them.

I’m pretty sure most state DNR’s can ban you from outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing for life if you’re convicted for poaching. In this instance, I think that the state doesn’t have anything to say since they were convicted of fraud, not poaching or taking the fish using an illegal means such as explosives. However, the tournament organizers can definitely ban these guys from participating in any of their sanctioned tournaments. And I would imagine that something like this would follow these clowns so any other fishing tournament organizations can also blacklist them. I hope they enjoy their time in the slammer.

Did everyone see the video before?
Watch fish get cut open,
and lead balls wrapped in walleye fish filets get pulled out.

Oh, and and the crowd, the competition….
Not too happy.

A metal detector at weigh in would put a stop to this quickly.

I was watching a fishing tournament this morning and remembered this incident and wondered what happened to those guys. Lo and behold a few hours later it’s right here. Strange how that happens

CavScoutCoastie

Apparently they’re under investigation for other fraudulent activities. Like usual what they got caught for was only the tip of the iceberg.

The above situation is a prime example of why there is such an epidemic of recidivism from the criminals. One actually has to work damn hard to get a felony conviction under a system like this. Then one has to be sentenced to something other than time served in order to get to prison. Between liberal DA’s and Judges criminals are emboldened to prey upon the public as they know not much other than a scolding will happen to them. It’s a wonder how Cops just do not resort to “street justice” in a blue city / state over the utter frustration this justice system futility brings.

I used to say it isn’t a criminal justice system. There is no justice, no system but it is criminal what the people in charge are doing.
