Texas gov. seeks to pardon Army sergeant convicted of murder

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Saturday that he is seeking to pardon a U.S. Army sergeant who was convicted of murder in the 2020 fatal shooting of an armed protester during nationwide protests against police violence and racial injustice.

Abbott tweeted that because the state constitution limits him to a pardon only on a recommendation by the state Board of Pardons and Paroles he is asking the board to recommend a pardon and to expedite his request in order to pardon Sgt. Daniel Perry.

“I look forward to approving the board’s pardon recommendation as soon as it hits my desk,” Abbott wrote.

Perry was convicted Friday by a Travis County jury of fatally shooting 28-year-old Garrett Foster during a protest in Austin. He faces up to life in prison when sentenced.

“Texas has one of the strongest ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws of self-defense that cannot be nullified by a jury or a progressive District Attorney,” Abbott said.

A phone call to District Attorney José Garza’s office on Saturday was not answered.

Perry’s attorneys argued that the shooting was self-defense as Foster approached Perry’s car with an AK-47 rifle. Prosecutors said Perry could have driven away before firing his revolver and witnesses testified that Foster never raised his rifle at Perry.

Stand by, heavy seas ahead. An excerpt from the self-described Newspaper of Record, the New York Times:

“The potential pardon of Mr. Perry threatens to undermine the Travis County District Attorney’s office, which prosecuted the case.

This week, Republican lawmakers introduced a bill in the State Senate that would curtail the power of elected prosecutors, particularly those in left-leaning counties who decline to pursue certain cases, like some related to abortion bans.”

Works for me. This was sent in by several of the usual suspects, thanks.

Owner of Jacksonville auto store shoots, injures would-be robber, police said
A gunman entered Galaxy Tire and Auto Repair, 540 Woodruff Ave., just before noon Friday and robbed the business. The owner shot him.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man police said was trying to rob a Jacksonville auto store Friday is in the hospital after he was shot by the business owner. Police said the man entered Galaxy Tire and Auto Repair, 540 Woodruff Ave., at around 11:45 a.m. and pulled a gun on the store’s owner demanding cash. After leaving the store with money, the gunman approached a person in a car in the parking lot and ordered them out of the vehicle. They complied, and the gunman tried to get away, but the car didn’t work.

The owner of the store exited the business to try and see which way the assailant was walking. The gunman then pointed his gun at the business owner, again, but this time the business owner was armed, according to Jacksonville police.

Marianna Police are investigating a home invasion

by: Thomas Shults
MARIANNA, Fl. (WMBB) — Marianna police are looking for a man who walked into a Marianna family home without an invitation.

It happened around 6:40 Friday morning, at a home on Russ and Wynn Streets.

Police said the man entered through the front door, walked through the home, and into a bedroom.

That’s when the homeowner, armed with a gun, confronted the man and fired several shots at the suspect. The man then fled the home.

First thing that came to mind was Estwing so I took a look at
their catalog. Quite a selection of weapons er I mean tools.

KoB

Firebase Magnolia has an assortment of said “tools” scattered about in strategic places (read every room in the house), plus an assortment in prepared bug out boxes. Folks that know me understand why I don’t loan out my Estwings.

Good on the Guv stepping up immediately to do the right thing. Sadly, SGT Perry’s career is shot to hell.

Lubs me a double shot of poor victim selection skilz.

Modern day demonrats have learned their lessons well from Messrs Marx and Lenin.

The camp ax.

I have one in my hunt/camp/deep woods fishing ruck.

Couldn’t recommend it more!

Well you axed for it, so what kind of axe is that. Just axing. I’m only familiar with the flathead and pickhead axes I used while I was an active FD Volly.

Oh, jeez… Austin DA whining “how there can’t be two justice systems” over Abbott seeking to pardon Perry after he directly ingnored there’s no duty to retreat in TX stand your ground law to convict him ’cause he felt like it:

Plus, part of the prosecutor’s pitch was, “if Perry felt threatened, why didn’t he just drive away?” Ignoring the fact that Perry’s car was surrounded by PantyFags who were beating on his car, and if he’d driven on, he would have run over one or more of those LibIdiots, and would have been in WORSE trouble.

11B-Mailclerk

In other words, why didn’t he just lay back and think of voting Donk…

The Marianna FL homeowner is a NO GO at this station, on two counts:
Leaving his home unlocked and unsecured, allowing entry by unauthorized persons.
Needs more range time to make sure (s)he hits what (s)he shoots at. The perp should not have been able to make a clean get away. There should have been, at the least, red and/or brown stain trails to follow.

Oh great. Another Leftoid “went nuts”*, and shot up a bank

Yeah, shooter will fade quickly cause he was a leftist asshole… can’t have anything interfere with the narrative spoonfed to low info voters like commissar

That’s three times in a month. Almost as if some Donk comic book villain found the hidden stash of MK Ultra Serum.

Silly notion, yes. But doesn’t it seem like something has changed….

Hate_me

I hope SGT Perry doesn’t take the pardon, though it should absolutely be offered.

Those legal professionals here, please correct me if I’m wrong… accepting a pardon is seen as admission of guilt, yes?

If memory serves me correctly, think Nicky and the Missus ended up having bit of a bad Christmas back in ’89.. If I properly recall; their Choir/Firing Squad lit ’em up with a killer rendition of ‘Silent Night, Hole-e-Night’.

*shrug* A perfect Christmas present for a perfect pair of despots..
I utterly abhorred the Ceausescus.
