The culture war came to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) with former Governor Ralf “Coonman” Northham’s predetermined investigation into the Institute’s inherent racism. This sin was only partially resolved with the removal of a statue of Stonewall Jackson.
Then retired Army Major General Cedric T. Wins was appointed as superintendent.

A group of Virginia Military Institute alumni is at war with the school’s first black leader over his push to introduce “woke,” new diversity policies at the oldest public senior military college in the US.
Retired Army Maj. Gen. Cedric Wins, 60, launched diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives after taking the helm of VMI in October 2020.
He laid out a five-goal plan for “Inclusive Excellence” by citing the mission to “achieve and maintain a more diverse and inclusive student body, faculty, staff, and administration.”
Wins became superintendent after serving in an interim capacity when Gen. J.H. Binford Peay III resigned amid allegations of a racist culture at the venerable school.
Then-Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat and VMI alumnus, ordered an investigation into racism and the school board voted to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson from the campus in Lexington.
The probe found that VMI had long tolerated a “racist and sexist culture” and needed to change.
But ever since VMI introduced new DEI initiatives, a group of well-funded, mostly white conservative alumni from 1985 — the year Wins graduated — has led an all-out assault on the woke efforts, according to the Washington Post.
Pointing out the 25% drop in enrollment with Win at the helm is racist.

“In a 2021 interview with The Washington Post, he said he was friends with several of his Black teammates on the track team and that, during his senior year, he joined Promaji, the college’s student group for minorities.”
“I’ve never seen anybody at VMI do anything racist at all,” Daniel said in the interview. “We didn’t sit around and talk about the Civil War … I don’t even remember talking about race — ever.”

Hooker put his “Headquarters” in the saddle and beat feet. Tangled up units, darkness, and the untimely wounding of Jackson is all that saved the day for “those people”. A year later, the Cadets gave another good accounting of themselves. Since then, The Warrior mentality of VMI alumni have continued that tradition. So, If enrollment is down 25%, what does that say about applications?
So, if certain demographics are 13% of US population, what’s that mean when everybody is trying to increase their diversity? Not everybody gets their 13%. Get used to it. Are we going to un-diversify(?) (sorry, homogenize) sports teams? Face it. People have interests and passions and go to them. Let them.
I had this discussion recently with some folks at a pretty liberal place – they were talking about how good their diversity with a specific racial group is because it’s >20% higher than the population at large.
I pointed out that means that they’re overrepresented, and for the sake of diversity, we now need to de-prioritize them below other groups, and some people didn’t get it and others acted like I cursed out their dear old grandmas. But nobody refuted it. Even DEI efforts haven’t (yet) gotten to the point where it can defy math, thankfully.
You of all people should know that you NEVER defy the teachings of the hive mind. They will pull your liberal card and banish you over to the normies. If you were trying to actually present facts, you should have known that they would not be able to grasp them.
I probably should’ve been more clear – the people I was talking with were part of a DEI committee. They are often reluctant to accept these things, but you’d be surprised at how many rank-and-file liberals are tired of ridiculous mandates on this kind of stuff.
Yes, there’s a very real risk of speaking out about it, because the more fanatical people will immediately paint you as a problem, but I’m optimistic that the pendulum will swing back a bit.
You can recognize a lack of diversity in things that’s worth trying to improve, and yet not turn it into a purity test requiring pledges, quotas, blaming white people, etc.
Further proof to me of how WORTHLESS liberalism truly is, if it had any true merit it would flourish by itself, but instead it relies on the stuff being force-fed to impressionable minds to the point of brainwashing. My bet is that “woke” propagandists periodically meet among each other and brag to what degree they have force-fed their effluvia to how many young people at once!
