Virginia Senate committee passes bill that would ban magazines holding over 10 rounds

Virginia Democrats have rolled out some bills in their move to “reduce gun violence” in Virginia. If one of those bills becomes law, selling, manufacturing, or purchasing an assault weapon would be criminalized. The bill would also criminalize having magazines that could hold over 10 rounds. There are claims that this bill was amended to remove the grandfather clause for current magazine owners.

From WRIC+ ABC 8 News:

On Monday, the Senate Courts of Justice Committee approved several gun control-related measures.

Along party lines, the committee approved a bill that would make it a crime to sell, manufacture or purchase an assault weapon, as defined in the bill, in Virginia. Plus, per the bill, it would also become illegal to possess a magazine that could hold more than ten rounds of ammunition.

“This approach will gradually take the weapons off the street without retroactively making it a crime to own a weapon that was legally purchased,” the bill’s author, Senator Saddam Salim (D-Fairfax), told the committee.

However, Republicans argued the bill violates Virginians’ Second Amendment rights.

“Every handgun that is not a pistol has the capacity to have a magazine greater than ten. This is a grab to obtain all firearms or prevent Virginians for having them,” said Senate Minority Leader Ryan McDougle (R-Hanover).

Meanwhile, the committee also passed a measure to require anyone with a child in the home to store their guns in a locked container that can only be opened via biometrics, like a person’s fingerprint.

The communists are truly taking over.

Apparently, they plan to do so in Virginia. Glad I don’t live there. The 2nd Battle of Brandy Station was the last time I was there.

From the link:

“Any of the bills passed in committee still need to pass the full Senate and the House of Delegates before they can be considered by Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger.”

I believe spanberger is behind this along with outlawing gas lawnmowers and a shitload of ultra left changes for the peeps in Virginia. I Hear that when she ran, she put on the moderate demoRat face and got elected….

ninja

Yep.

Those who voted for her (Northern Virginia) are reaping what they sow….

“useful” idiots…

That’s just it my friend. They’re not hiding it anymore. Wait until they have the house and senate. Bye bye filibuster. The plan is to go nuclear with the radical changes…… fast.

Not a Lawyer

West of Rappahannock County and Southwest of Richmond this thing has zero support. The problem is the bulk of the population now lies in the other areas.

Steve1371

That is the same as NY, Ma. And many other states.

Back in the day, after we went from S&W Mod 10 .38 wheelguns to S&W Mod 4046 semi autos, the mags held 12 rounds and under the law, we could only load 10 rds into the mag. NYPD had the same problem untill they got the law changed for them but not everyone else. Brink’s tried to get the 12 rd Mags to hold the full 12 but it was rejected. We went to semi autos right after 9/11. I started in 1970 and we were using .38 Police positive wheelguns and S&W Mod 10 .38 Pencil barrels

Looks like that black trunk full of essentially every 30 round magazine I ever “tactically acquired” during 35 years (and two months) of active duty will have to disappear. Or, i could just add VA to the list of states i will never live in. The number of new taxes they are rolling out is insane, and magazine bans only compounds the idiocy.

What does “Nonce is invalid mean?

ninja

The reason I asked that question is recently, while trying to comment, a red notice titled “Nonce is invalid” notice came up and my comments never made it.

Am now on a different computer system. Don’t know if it has anything to do with my server or the instrument I used to comment.

This has happened several times in the past month.. Additionally, have had problems in the past two days trying to read this blog.

Thank You!

“Nonce” is an Englandistan slang term for a male homosexual. Looks like in that context it is a typo.

What is strange is that we have two computers in our home plus our phones, all using the same network.

For some reason, the “Nonce is invalid” in red shows up when I try to comment on my phone. Ran virus/malware checks on every system with negative response.

My comments are going thru with our computers.

Thank you for the feedback, rgr769!

I have one of those pistol lock boxes that requires a fingerprint to open it. I found it failed to work and unlock the box about half the time, so I no longer use it to store a loaded pistol and spare mag. The finger reading screen was hit or miss. So, if relying on one to save you when the four home invaders are breaking into your house, may cause you and yours to end up in the ER or the morgue. Progs mostly know little or nothing about firearms and are incredibly stupid.

Army-Air Force Guy

That’s the problem. Gun laws are written by people that know absolutely nothing about guns.

Steve1371

Virginia is going to hell. These are the same people that got Armed Forces Brewing tossed out of Norfolk.

Will Virginia be requiring gun registration and random checks on gun safes?

Retired Grunt

No, but God forbid agreeable law enforcement have a reason to be in your house and see it not secure. You go to jail, you’re forwarded to child services because OBVIOUSLY you’re a shitty parent. Next thing you know your son Steven is now Susan, you see where this leads.
