A man accused of assaulting several people at a mobile home park was fatally shot by police after a long standoff when he rushed at officers with a knife, police said.
Two officers fired at Jordan Pruyn, 28, Wednesday night, Columbia Police spokesman Christian Tabak said at a news conference Thursday.
Officers initially responded to a report that a man had assaulted several people near the Stonegate Mobile Home Community. Tabak said Pruyn discarded a firearm when officers arrived but efforts to deescalate the situation were unsuccessful and he barricaded himself inside a mobile home.

A Charleston, West Virginia, police officer fatally shot a man suspected of trespassing on Wednesday after police said the man became violent.
Officers were investigating a trespassing complaint at around 1 p.m. when they encountered William E. Henry Jr., according to a statement from Charleston Police Chief James “Tyke” Hunt.
Henry, 43, armed himself with a pipe and advanced on an officer, according to Hunt. Henry then “fought through a taser deployment” and struck the officer in the head with the pipe, according to police.

Are we seeing an uptick in mental cases post-COVID-tyranny?
I know mental illness is up among the youth because of the lockdowns and isolation. I fear many of them will end up like these two cases – suicide by cop.
Prayers for the LEOs, and the families impacted.
Husband was doing relatively okay after the military discharge, then the Kung Flu hit. His hours at work increased (even though he didn’t work in the health sector) and he felt pressure to keep working instead of going to his therapy appointments. What really made him snap, though, was the feeling that authorities were lying to him (again). That triggered the paranoid part of his psychosis, and St. George of the Fentanyl compounded it. I heard the suicide-by-cop scenarios suddenly uptick, and it became clear through those and other proposals that he was becoming a danger to himself and others. He stopped working in December 2020 and the VA took over for financial support.
I don’t think his story is completely atypical of Americans. The Kung Flu broke a lot of people, and not just physically. His dad pulled a (large) company through the pandemic but is retiring early essentially due to stress.
There is a mistaken belief out there that Suicide by Cop will result in a payout to thr deceased family. Nothing could be further from the truth.
For someone suffering from paranoia, they don’t really care about a family payout. They want revenge for percieved persecution and for the pain to end. What they see in front of them is a person wearing a badge (authority figure) and is armed (imminent threat/challenge).
I’m not saying every suicide-by-cop has the mentality of my husband, but given what I know about his condition, it’s more prevalent than you might think.
