As 5JC mentioned yesterday, Tulsi Gabbard has quit the Democrat Party – her reasons are BLISTERING.

At Joint Base Lewis McChord, 1-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, or “Ghost” Brigade, had signed an M2 over to the staff duty officer so soldiers preparing for EIB/ESB testing could familiarize themselves (firing an M2 is part of the tests per MT) when the receiver was found to be missing. Me, I’m not an M2 guy but in most guns the receiver is the essential chunk everything else hangs on so this at least potentially could allow someone to build their very own. Serious stuff.
A search for the receiver ensued, and soldiers from 2-3 Infantry were called in to look for it. Later in the day, when it still hadn’t been found, the rest of “Ghost” Brigade was recalled to look too.
A culprit was identified that afternoon, according to a soldier involved in the search. By evening, the soldier had allegedly confessed to tossing the receiver into a dumpster. At some point, the trash bin had been emptied and its contents — including the machine gun part — had been hauled away.
Apparently one idiot wanted to cause trouble – the troops in 2-3 Infantry, along with sister battalions in 1-2 SBCT, probably have different words for it as all were recalled to search. Even though the probable culprit has been found, the receiver itself has not – makes you think a whole bunch of troops are going to get intimately familiar with the dump, very soon.
The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division, reportedly the third largest RR union in the country, has rejected the Biden Administration’s recently negotiated deal. While the 24% pay increase and annual bonuses are nice, one sick day per year with sick or personal absences counting against pay rankled the voters who rejected the deal 56 to 43%. Normal negotiations may continue till November 19th, after which a strike is possible. That would make for an interesting holidy season. See more at WaPo.

And if she did it right, she might get some of the newly “awakened” socialist dems who have learned from their pain to vote for her.
She has always been a moderate. She was a big critic of Obama when he was in office. While I welcome her exit from the cuckoo train going over the cliff that is the Democratic Party she is still a moderate. Her strong, solid support of gun control would keep me from pulling a lever for her at any office above city council.

Now before everybody gets their panties in a twist over the possibility that a Ma Deuce could be built up around just the 60 pounds plus receiver, take a gander at TM 9-1005-213-23&P and see just how many parts are not available to Dog Face Joe down at the company/battalion/brigade/direct support maintenance/repair levels. Many of the necessary parts don’t even have a stock number (only a part number) and are only available at General/Depot Repair. (think Red River /Anniston Army Depot level)
So, it’s not like Joe Schmoe and his buddies could get with a repair parts clerk, order in a whole bunch of items and then potentially build one in the barracks after lights out. / smile
Not an M2 guy, as I said – assuming it is an assembled lower, how many needed parts could be purchased surplus etc if someone was willing to shell out the shekels? I am also not big on class III stuff. More into things that have cylinders, levers, or emit large white clouds of sulfur smelling smoke.
I actually once knew a guy (civilian who worked in machining) who built a functional M2 from the receiver.
He had to reach out to some buddies who worked at the local AMSA shop and a nearby steel plant to tool some of the parts and weld them together (I think he obtained the barrel on the black market, but this was decades ago and I may misremember details).
She sat, unworkable, in his garage for a decade before he met me at the bar. Once I’d explained headspace and timing, Ma Deuce worked just fine.
Single shot M2 builds have been available since at least 2004. Current makers include Ohio Ordnance. $16K and she is all yours…

Ref that M2: I learned on my very first staff duty as a 2LT (must’ve been my buck sergeant instincts kicking in) to sign the sensitive COMSEC gear over to my replacement, even though nobody signed it over to me, and that person lost it. The brigade signal officer was embarrassed when he came to me thinking I’d lost it and I popped out a hand receipt to someone else. “Boom! …. Sir. Go see this guy.”
In God we trust, all others must sign. I ran a company arms room for about 14 months and you should have heard everyone crying at 0430 because weapon issue was taking so long because regs required 2 foms of documentation for anything coming out of the arms room for more than 24 hrs. Thankfully the 100+ idiots in my Infantry company never lost a whole weapon or other sensitive item from my arms room. Can’t say the same about some scouts in HHC and that KIK-13 they lost right before a long weekend.
