FBI undercounts number of times armed citizens have thwarted active shooting incidents: report
‘Some see a pattern of distortion in the FBI numbers,’ the Crime Prevention Research Center report argues

By Emma Colton | Fox News
A new report from the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) argues that the FBI’s data contains “massive errors” when tracking active shooting incidents, undercounting how often armed citizens have thwarted active-shooting situations over the last eight years.

“Although collecting such data is fraught with challenges, some see a pattern of distortion in the FBI numbers because the errors almost exclusively go one way, minimizing the life-saving actions of armed citizens,” the report, which was provided to Fox News Digital this week by Crime Prevention Research Center founder and president John Lott, states.

Data released by the nonprofit shows that 34.4% of active shootings were thwarted by armed citizens between 2014 and 2021. However, FBI data show only 4.4% of active shootings were thwarted by armed citizens during that time period.

Police say semi-automatic gun, machete used in Northglenn burglary before teens shot

Northglenn detectives said that two teen burglary suspects had a semi-automatic gun and a machete before they were shot and killed by the homeowner over the weekend after trespassing. Police believe the suspects were also responsible for burglarizing a nearby home on Sunday afternoon.

When LJ Perceval and her son came home Sunday, it was clear someone broke into their house. She immediately called 911 and was told it would be a while before officers responded, due to a “more serious” situation down the street.

Perceval soon learned the crimes were connected and the burglary suspects were dead.

Northglenn police connected her burglary to the juveniles shot and killed after trespassing around the corner.

Northglenn police report the suspects broke a fence to gain entry into the backyard of a home in the 11600 block of Pearl Street. That’s where police say the suspects and the homeowner exchanged gunfire.

Poor victim selection skills can be a cast iron bitch. Pity.

I have here in my hand a list of two hundred and five people that were known to the Secretary of State as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping the policy of the State Department. -Joseph R. McCarthy

I am not surprised at the report of the FedGov under reporting civilian armed defense.
It’s who they are. It’s what they do.
They lie and they FiB(bIe).

The FBI (or any) government agency is twisting numbers to suit their agenda?

I’m sorry, but my “shocked face” is out of order at this point.

I’ve said it before, but shall repeat for any newbies or old forgetful folks here:
As a petty bureaucrat computer programmer, I had to make the numbers match what the State Legislator/other official wanted to see almost every time I ran an ad hoc report.

Governmentaly provided numbers should always be viewed with a healthy dose of cynicism. Same for any numbers provided by a special interest group.

100% of ’em, huh?

To be totally honest. I have more faith in the writers of the TV shows about the FBI, than I do about the “real” FBI. At least the shows never claim to be real or anything other than fiction.

And I never watch any of those FBI/CIA/po-po shows (I find the “Law & Order” series especially abhorrent). IMHO, all they’re trying to do is propagandize you, the idjit box viewer, into believing that all the Authoritah are kindly, mean you no harm, know the law and what they’re doing, and will catch you in a crime in a 1/2 – 1 hour format.

Question: Are 45 (Long) Colt and 454 Casull interchangeable within a 454 Casull pistol? (I don’t think I’d dare put a 454 Casull round through a 45 Colt pistol – I like my hands exactly as they are now, ThankYouVeryMuch)

Answer: One cannot chamber a .454 Casull cartridge in a .45 Long Colt revolver, such as a SAA. The Casull overall length is 1.77 inches, a Colt SAA cylinder is only 1.62 inches long. However, one can shoot .45 Long Colt ammo in a .454 Casull chambered revolver.

Those of us that reload know of the danger of double charging a .45 Long Colt cartridge. That is definitely a hazard. The Long Colt case was designed for black powder and has a case volume much larger than needed for standard smokeless powder loads. Thus, it is not uncommon for reloaders not paying attention to inadvertently double charge a case. Depending on how much powder is in the double charged cartridge, when fired, it may blow out the chamber and take off the top strap of the pistol. The Casull cartridge has about three or four times the chamber pressure of the .45 Long Colt cartridge. So, you needn’t worry about shooting a .454 Casull in a .45 SAA, as the cartridge won’t fit in the cylinder.

However, there are some .45 revolvers that are chambered to shoot .410 shot shells in addition to .45 Colt. They may have cylinder chambers long enough to accommodate the .454 Casull. Since they were very likely not designed for the much higher chamber pressure, they should not be used to shoot .454 Casull.

Anyone who shoots a .454 Casull in that is not going to like the recoil.

Short Answer: You may shoot .45 Long Colt and .45 Schofield cartridges in any of the .454 Casull chambered revolvers. You will find the amount of recoil reduced by about 500%, according to what I have read.
