In a heartbreaking story, several news outlets are reporting that the brother of a Marine killed in Afghanistan during the withdrawal has killed himself at the site of a shrine honoring his brother’s sacrifice.

The brother of a U.S. Marine who died during last year’s military withdrawal from Afghanistan reportedly committed suicide during his sibling’s recent memorial service.
Dakota Halverson, 28, died on August 9. He was the older brother of Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, 20, from Norco, California, who was one of the 13 military members killed by a suicide bomber outside the Kabul airport on August 26, 2021.
“The older brother of one of the 13 KIA in Kabul recently killed himself at his little brother’s memorial,” Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) tweeted on Saturday.
“Please pray for his family. There MUST be accountability for this continued carnage,” he added.
This is tragic, but it is a bit unclear whether this incident occurred at a memorial site or during a memorial service. I believe it happened at a shrine in honor of his brother, but was reported that it happened at a memorial – which could mean a service or a shrine.

What a blow to their mother. We pray for all of them. Rest in Peace bothers…your watch is done.
So, so sad, that the brother was so grief stricken that he had to take a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
God’s peace and love to the entire family…..the brother killed in ‘Stan, the brother who killed himself, the mother, the father, all other family members…..
May God hold this mother and family in the palm of his hands and cradle the shattered pieces of their hearts.
Heartbroken doesn’t begin to describe this.
Just too sad for words. Their blood is on the hands of the ones that made such a cluster out of the “withdrawal”.
May God’s Peace bring some sort of His Comfort to the Family.
And the “suck-sessful” withdrawal of our troops, after 20 years of pointless combat in Afghanistan, continues.
After 9/11 we were a country united, and still proud.
Here we are, 21 years later, and I feel like we’ve stepped through the looking glass, fallen into the rabbit hole, been taken up by a tornado over the rainbow, landed on a witch, we’re at a tea party filled with drugs, we ain’t in Kansas anymore, and we ain’t even listening to Toto.
And the stuffing got pulled out of the scarecrow.
