Elle Cabrera, St. George Spectrum & Daily News

A male suspect was shot and killed Wednesday after law enforcement arrived near the Port of Entry at the Utah-Arizona border where he was reportedly acting erratically and brandishing a weapon.

The Utah Highway Patrol responded to a suspicious vehicle near the Port of Entry at about 7:30 a.m. and found the man there, according to a release from the St. George Police Department, which responded as well to the incident. Officers set up containment positions while asking for assistance from local agencies and crisis management teams.

SGPD officers arrived with a crisis negotiator and established communication with the suspect but they were unable to “deescalate the situation”, according to the release, and the man was shot and killed by officers.

No further details on the incident were immediately available.

Nancy Molnar, The Times-Reporter
NEWCOMERSTOWN — Deputies from the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office shot a 36-year-old man who aimed a semi-automatic shotgun at them on Wednesday morning after a five-hour standoff.

John P. Mozena, III, was shot about four times, according to Sheriff Orvis Campbell. The shooting occurred at 8:31 a.m.

“The moment he hit the ground, and being honest, the deputies went into life-saving mode,” he said. “They went over and secured the weapon, and immediately began first aid, including applying a tourniquet and patching wounds.”

Tri-County EMS, which staged nearby during the incident, arrived shortly afterward.

The son initially became upset after he parked his truck at Speedway on Morris Crossing Avenue, went inside and returned to the parking lot to find the vehicle missing, Campbell said. The son thought his father had taken it, according to Campbell. But the truck, which had no emergency brake, slipped out of gear and rolled into a canal, Campbell said.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. (Includes Karl Marx, too.)

Sometimes its difficult to determine whether an article should be submitted for consideration as a Feel Good Story or inclusion in the Stoopid People of the Week Catagory. Decisions decisions. These two (2) perps made some bad decisions.

One thing that is not hard to decide on is paying homage to the designs of His Most Saintly, John Moses Browning, Howitzer Be His Name. Says a lot when you can take a pistol that’s over 100 years old, do a little routine maintnance on it, and it will fire as well as it did when brand new.

Most of the people that are wanting to change the world just want to change it so they are in charge.
