Boomer’s Sunday

| July 31, 2022

It’s time once again, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes, for Boomer’s Sunday, where I sort through the weekly offering of ‘toons and pick the best. Toons are provided by Boomer and AW1 Scott, with many others contributing.
Disclaimer: These toons are meant to amuse, entertain and inform, pretty much in that order. While I cull what I can, they are not specifically fact-checked, so expect a certain amount of artistic license.

Easy, Gun Bunny.

Most of these dates are wrong. The German revolver in the lower right was invented in 1580. The Puckle Gun in 1718 the Volley Gun in 1779. Not sure why the dates are incorrect.

A competent marksman of the Revolutionary Era was expected to be able to load and accurately shoot 3 rounds per minute not one. This remained the standard until the American Civil War which changed warfare forever.

Yup even those in favor of conservative principals are not immune from falsifying their data. That’s the problem with a lot of social media posts. It also makes the unwashed think that the rest of us are just as loose with the truth as liberals.

5JC

I think the difference is that I would be forever trying to correct liberal bullshit if I even tried.

Fyrfighter

I’d add that the corrected dates are both close (designed vs. produced maybe?), and EARLIER than those listed, so anyone arguing that the dates are false is barking up the wrong tree IMHO

MI Ranger

Is the date not the patent date? vice the invention dtae?!

Wow a bumper crop of great memes today!

Great Sunday Toons again

You were right, Big Dog. An exceptionally fine long selection of Boomers. And speaking of Boomers…”Easy, Gun Bunny”. Be still my beating heart. That appears to be a 3 inch ordnance rifle on that trailer. Been there, done that and ZERO problems with tailgaters. At that reading range, might wanna use a 1/4 to 1/2 second fuse…double cannister. Keep the collateral damage to other lanes to a minimum. The other towed piece looks to be a One-Oh-Deuce. BTDT, too, ‘cept it was with a Deuce and 1/2 v an SUV.

May have a chance on a 40 year old repo Parrot Gun if a Museum don’t out bid me. Would go a long way to shoring up that North Wall.

And yep, David was another home run. Let me know how that talk with TVI goes. *snicker*

Good luck on the Parrot KoB

Tanks, Fyr, ‘preciate that. Tho I feel I’ll have about as much success with the gun as our Beloved AW1Ed has in his conversation with TVI. Slim to none on a positive outcome. I FIRST (ht 2 Tox) heard about it from my long time Compatriot and Bestest Bud a coupla weeks ago. An Old School Cum Ms Thang inherited it and the cabin from her Dad. Built from a kit (Dixie Gun Works?), complete with all the pieces and parts, no rot on the carriage, wheels, or trail. Been under a shelter with concrete pad since it was built. Never fired, tube is as it was when it left the foundry. Offered $5K sight unseen, can afford to go to $7.5K without busting my piggy bank. Museum got wind of it from another source and they have a budget of up to $12-15K. They were really looking for a Naval piece so that might help me.

John Pelham’s crews used a Parrot Gun and “Old Nap” to hold 2 divisions of Federal Infantry at bay for several hours @ Fredericksburg.

Some sad news. Actress Nichelle Nichols best remembered as LT Uhura in the 1966-68 Star Trek TV series & the movie franchise has died at age 89. That leaves just William Shatner, George Takei, and Walter Koenig left from the original series main cast. RIP – maybe in space?
