Newest Blue Angel demonstration pilot is female

| July 20, 2022

The Blue Angels, the Navy’s crack demonstration squadron, announced new pilot selection and chose Lt. Amanda Lee as their first female demonstration pilot. Previously Marine Maj. Katie Higgins flew Fat Albert, their C-130 transport, from 2014-2016.   Lt. Lee is prior enlisted, and was commissioned under the Seaman-to-Admiral commissioning program in 2013 and successfully became a pilot in 2016.

Although hundreds of women have served with the Blue Angels in a variety of capacities over 55 years, Lt. Amanda Lee, of Mounds View, Minnesota, will be the first woman to serve as a demonstration pilot.

Her successful enlisted career as an aviation electronics technician led to her selection into the Seaman-to-Admiral Commissioning Program. Lee earned her commission in August 2013 and was designated a naval aviator in April 2016 before being deployed to the USS Harry S. Truman in support of Dynamic Force Employment Operation INHERENT RESOLVE, as well as numerous exercises with NATO allies.

New team members will report to the squadron in September for a two-month turnover period. Upon completion of the 2022 show season, which concludes in November with the Blue Angels Homecoming Air Show at NAS Pensacola, the team will embark on a rigorous five-month training program at NAS Pensacola and Naval Air Facility El Centro, California.

Hot runner! Good on her!

Good For Her!

Is she considered as being a Mustang?

AW1Ed

Yes indeed! She was an enlisted Aviation Electronics Tech (AT) fondly called Trons.

She is in more than one way a Mustang. Mounds View High School’s mascot is also the Mustang.

Did not know that fact, but growing up in Coon Rapids/Brooklyn
Park, that is CoolAF. Bravo Zulu!

A Big Salute and Shout Out to LT Lee!

In her honor (as well as AW1Ed’s and Mick’s honor)… 😉 😎

Enjoy! 3 minute video.

Grrrrrr….

What do they call that nervous person who hangs with musicians?

A drummer. Do we need a come-to-Jesus talk? You are perilously close to being added to a certain list.
*grin*

The list is long, but distinguished.

We came up on that durn Duty Roster via DA Form 6 for That Movie That Shalt Not Be Named….

We ended up getting a counseling statement because we DID mention the name of That Movie That Shalt Not Be Named…

Glad you were paying attention to my comment on today’s FGS Thread and picked up on the posting of the DA Form 6 and checked to see whose day it was to be “that guy” while I was on escort detail. We DO have the very best ninjas. gabn

“Look forward to seeing you perform.” Me too. Wouldn’t mind seeing her fly either. Would be honored to be a member of her Mile High Club. Oops! Do I need to see myself out or just put my lustful thoughts on ice, man? Bet she’s a ball at the beach and couldn’t see myself losing that lovin’ feelin’ for her. A First Place Trophy all the way.

BZ LT Lee, I’ll see you later… in my dreams!

AW1Ed

The list is short. And closely watched.

A drum line?

The Drummer from Iron Butterfly weeps.

The classic Drum Solo from “In A Gadda Da Vida.”

4 minutes worth watching.

1977. I’m a freshman, total band nerd. High school band is doing a performance at the middle school down the street. We’re having fun, the kids are having fun. We get ready for the next song, one of the first chair trumpet players, Chico, puts his horn down, and sits behind the drum kit. Our director looks at him a little puzzled, shrugs and rolls with it. Chico goes full-on Animal, blasts out a two minute drum solo, just goes apeshit. He stops, breathless and grinning. The crowd of middle schoolers go wild. Chico has never played drums in his life until now. Worst fucking solo ever but possibly the loudest. A legend was born that day.

I hope she earned the spot and is not some token to appease The Woke Overlords. You would think that the nature of being a Blue Angel would NOT allow for a less than capable pilot. However, we live is some strange times. I’ll be interesting to see how The Main/Lamestream media portrays her as a woman, or as the first uterus bearing, pregnant capacity, menstruating person to fly for the Angels. I mean their pilots…not Biologists.

Don’t think this has anything to do with her selection:

Air shows are a blast when one flies out to the air show for a few days to participate- much less so when the air show is at YOUR Naval Air Station.
Always loved the Blue’s Sneak Pass, and the effect it had on the unsuspecting crowd. So of course it has to go. Sad.

My Dad worked for Republic Aviation out in Farmingdale LI, NY and we went to one of the air shows and saw their F-84 and their other aircraft in the air. Entertainment was by the Harmonicats.

Living in Pensacola for 13 years, in a subdivision out behind the NAS, the Poe’s got to see a lot of the Blues practicing out over the Gulf and Perdido Key.

Had a neighbor, a Marine O-4 with Vietnam combat in F-4’s, who was then an instructor pilot who occasionally did his version of a Sneak Pass over our neighborhood (which was under the main approach to NAS) in an A-4 Skyhawk, back in the day when you could still get away with such antics.

Of course, in those long-gone days, naval aviators were still famed for their drinking and partying prowess, as well. They could descend on your home like a swarm of locusts, stripping your booze stocks bare in an evening.

The Poe’s loved those days, so much so that we’ve decided that since the best years of our youthful lives were spent there, that when ol’ Poe finally checks out, Miz Poe’s gonna check his ashes into a plot at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard the NAS. Maybe he’ll have GABN inscribed on his headstone… 😜

I feel a degree of disappointment that no one has yet picked up on her hailing from a city named “Mounds View” and has made some pithy, but slightly tasteless comment on such.

NDHoosier

Would love to see IDC SARC comment in this thread… XD

Graybeard

Where is IDC SARC?

USAFRetired

I still remember a Friday at the Nellis O Club decades ago. A female viper of Eagle pilot was among attendees and a discussion of her visible attributes came up among some that were imbibing and they referenced it to her callsign – Mounds.

An older wider head came over and informed them that they were dead wrong. A young, slightly inebriated O-3 who might have been a bit cynical, challenged himon this and was told its simple.

Almond Joys got nuts Mounds don’t.

KoB

You mean something along the lines of “I’d like to view those mounds”, TopGoz?

Graybeard

Excellent work, young lady. Keep it up!

Great to see you made it Lt.

NDHoosier

(If I were going to hell for a joke, this would be it…)

I wonder if she will draw a dick in the air….you know, Navy pilot and all….

AW1Ed

I’d bet she would. You know, Navy pilot and all- I’ve known a few. Except it’s been done already, so she’ll have to find another path.
