Armed store clerk stops man who threatened employees with knife, police say

Asheville police say a man accused of threatening people with a knife is behind bars after a clerk armed with a gun stopped him during a tense standoff.

The Asheville Police Department (APD) says patrol officers responded to a shoplifting call just before midnight on June 17 at One Stop on 495 Haywood Road. Police say staff members at the West Asheville gas station had confronted a man, identified as 37-year-old Christopher Gene Hagan, for shoplifting. Hagan is accused of then brandishing a “razor blade type knife” and approaching staff members with it, APD says in a press release.

Police say officers who arrived on scene found Hagan, still holding a knife, in a standoff with the clerk and several bystanders present.

Albion officer shoots, kills man; Michigan State Police investigating

An Albion Public Safety officer has been placed on leave after fatally shooting a man Wednesday night in the city.

Albion resident Jason Elliotte Dodds, 42, died of his injuries at a Jackson hospital, Albion Public Safety Chief Scott Kipp confirmed Thursday.

Police say they approached Dodds outside a home in the 700 block of North Eaton Street and the officer, whose name was not released by police, shot him after Dodds allegedly raised a gun toward officers.

Police said they ordered the Dodds to drop the gun multiple times.

Officers provided first aid and CPR until an ambulance arrived, police said.
