Gun Dealer Charged in Church Murders Spurned Invite to Join Others at Table
BY AILA SLISCO
A70-year-old registered gun dealer was charged with murder following a deadly church shooting that killed three people in Alabama.Jefferson County District Attorney Danny Carr announced on Friday that gun dealer Robert Findlay Smith was charged with Capital Murder of Two or More Persons one day after the shooting, which happened on Thursday night during a potluck dinner at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Smith is being held without bond.
The deceased victims were identified as Walter Rainey, 84, Sarah Yeager, 75, and Jane Pounds, 84, according to officials. Rainey was found dead at the scene when officers responded to the shooting at around 6:22 p.m. local time, while Yeager and Pounds were injured and later died after being treated at a local hospital.
Smith was registered as a firearms dealer with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), operating a related business named “Original Magazines 2” at his home address. The motive behind the shooting is unclear.
The Reverend Doug Carpenter, the church’s retired founder, told AL.com that the alleged killer sat alone after arriving at the potluck and claimed that he was a former church member, although none of the current church members knew who he was. Police described Smith as an “occasional attendee.”
Church members soon asked Smith to sit at a table, Reverend Carpenter said, according to AL.com. The alleged shooter declined the offer and identified himself as only Mr. Smith to Rainey before pulling out a handgun and shooting him and the other two victims.
Reverend Carpenter said that church member Jim Musgrove then hit Smith with a chair and managed to pry the gun from his hands, according to AL.com.

PHOTO: Dog Trained to Sniff Out Memory Devices Helps Catch Suspected Pedophile
A dog trained to find memory devices recently helped nab a suspected pedophile in Mexico City and is receiving a lot of praise.
A Netherlands-based organization that combats human trafficking notified an American activist group that a Dutchman, who has advocated for sex with children, fled pending court cases in the Netherlands, the Associated Press (AP) reported Wednesday.
It appeared the suspect thought he could do whatever he wanted in Mexico City but failed to factor in Hidu, who recently learned to sniff out triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO), a substance used as a chemical coating for certain electronics.
Evelien Hölsken, who heads up the organization called Free a Girl, said it contacted Operation Underground Railroad (OUR) about opening an investigation into the matter.
Workers with OUR created a plan to lure the suspect via chat rooms and social media, and it did not take long before Mexico City prosecution detectives were at the scene when he arrived at a local bus station near a park on June 5.

Texas gun owner shoots teen during alleged attempted robbery
The teen had been released from juvenile detention barely two weeks prior
By Anders Hagstrom | Fox News
A Texas gun owner defended himself and another woman from a teenager who allegedly tried to rob them at gunpoint in Austin, Texas last week, police announced.Jaylyn Reed, 17, has now been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. Reed was already convicted of a series of robberies in 2021. Police say he was released from juvenile detention on May 27 with an ankle monitor, which he cut it off two days later. Reed then committed a series of nine robberies in five days, police say.
Reed reportedly approached the man and woman shortly after exiting a vehicle, which police say contained three other suspects.
“Surveillance video recorded Reed as he exited the vehicle and approached a black male victim and a black female victim,” police wrote. “Reed pulled out a handgun and robbed the male victim of his backpack. At the same time, the other suspects in the car moved forward and waited for Reed. Reed moved toward the getaway car while pointing his handgun at the female victim. The male victim pulled out his firearm and fired several shots at Reed and those in the Chevy Malibu in self-defense.”

I suspect that Daddy’s Goodboy is actually named Hidu. Very handsome.
Memory devices (I presume they’re referencing thumb drives) got a smell? Who knew?
Good dog! T-bones and belly rubs!
Sure, for getting pedos who have kiddie pr0n. Worries me that it could easily be “unapproved conservative media” or samizdat being seized by proggie authorities.
I understand that they used dogs trained for that to find cell phones with serviceable intel over in the different sandboxes. I thought we had a hero-story about one of them a few weeks ago.
Mugshot of the 70 year old dude who murdered three innocent folks at the church in Alabama.
He will be answering to a Higher Power…and we are not talking about Alabama power.
There, but by the Grace of God………
Have no idea what got him so cranked, but if he had that shiner when he came in (and one of those folk he shot gave it to him)… ouch! (Old dude definitely did not give a damn any more.)

Mental Illness Is A Terrible Disease…
Ah, the black eye came from gettin’ whacked WWE-style with a folding chair there (more proof pro wrassling is show) and not evidence of motive…
That whole situation sounds extremely odd.
The Episcopalians I’ve known usually don’t do things that get the mentally ill further disturbed – but I do know that they have some so-called “Affirming” churches/bishops/rectors (aka heretics and perverts). But it sounds like this group was more of the old style.
A 70 year old FFL-holder who evidently decided to take a pistol to a pot-luck and shoot people he didn’t know who tried to include him in their group?
Really, really odd.
But I’d not be surprised to find out that the Bishop of their diocese forbade parishioners from carrying in the churches under his/her/zits control.
We thought the EXACT same thing, Graybeard….
Still say he had a beef (or, at least, thought he did) with someone at that table.
YES!
The more I learned about people, the more I loved my dog.
Another reason to CC…every.where.you.go. Sympathies to the families of the murdered church victims. BZ to Mr. Musgrove, taking a chair to Smith’s wishbone.
Tickle monster shoulda vaycayed in Orlando. Pluto don’t sniff out tickle monsters. Belly rubs and tacos for Hindu.
I thought it was only ebil whypeeple that preyed on black folks? Who knew? Wonder how long this quartet will be singing for the Boys in Cell Block C?
“…thieves and politicians…” you repeat yourself there FIRST Class.
I’d adopt that Baby and give it a home. “….45 ACP and doesn’t come in a polymer frame…” As was intended by, well…you know.
No, you have it backwards.
You (the thief) value stealing someone else’s property more then you value your own life.
See ya later, ‘gator.
Read the first part about valuing the dog’s life to my wife… who responded “Yeah? So?”
Some people suck and aren’t worth the oxygen they consume.
Depends upon the situation, sure, but a good dog beats that.

The second (archived 1987) story – THAT’s how you do it.
Seasoned citizen, fires THROUGH the closed door to take out the trash (yes, he knew who/what was on the other side).
The thief FAFO’d.
Ed, slightly off topic, but it is a sort of feel good story. It is a video of Eric Greitens’ (R-for governor of MO) campaign ad where he leads an apparent SEAL breach team into a house. He talks about hunting RINO’s. It is on twitter; fakebook pulled it. The progs and the RINO’s are going crazy. See the story on Gateway Pundit. I’m sure this will generate some controversy here. We might even see Ell See and some of his fellow travelers.
