It’s just damn sad to see what has happened to Scientific American. They once were one of the most highly respected magazines in the country. Now it is just more woke politics with a sciencey spin unsupported by facts.

I absolutely can write a paper showing why the Taliban aren’t terrorists. Like them I will have to quote extensively from the Koran as source material. In fact I’ll just use their quotes.

If someone is required to answer an essay assignment only with the perspective the teacher allows how does that encourage a critical thinking skill?

If the concept behind the Taliban are not terrorists question was to encourage the notion that sometimes the government and the corporate media conspire to define events to suit both a political and corporate agenda aligned to benefit both one would think a more appropriate path to achieve this would involve allowing people to write their answers however they like while requiring substantial sourcing footnotes.

Then the instructor could use the sourcing notes to get students to question if that particular source might be compromised through potential conflicts of interest that affect negatively the ability to report honestly on any issue.

That would seem to encourage research, analysis of source research for bias, critical thinking regarding confirmation bias through propaganda, and analysis of all pertinent information.

I know that this is going to be unpopular, but the one with the Ronald McDonald House telling a family they have to leave by the end of the month is not on McDonald’s.

British Columbia, where this took place, has locked down everything. In order to receive “onsite services from the private sector,” the person receiving the services must be vaccinated.

While people are saying this is the fault of the RMDH, it is not. They are in the untenable position of either doing what the father and others feel is right, or being fined and shut down by the government in which case the services offered to others are limited (due to the fines) or ended (if they are forced to close their doors.)

And before anyone says that the RMDH should fight this, they did. They tried to negotiate with the government after a board of directors meeting in December and got no where.

It’s horrible. It’s tragic. At the same time, if the RMDH is shut down. 10 other families will be told to leave.
