Two “defund the police” Democrats car jacked in two major cities within 24 hours of each other

File this one under poetic justice, karma, or “Leopards ate my face.”

As crime soars in most major cities, spurred by a unique combination of Democrat council and mayors politics of cutting the police and Democrat prosecutors refusing to prosecute crimes we find two Democrat legislators get car jacked within 24 hours of each other in two Democrat cities, both with Democrat district attorneys who don’t prosecute crime.

State Senator Kimberly Lightford (D)

First, in suburban Chicago, one of the highest ranked Democrats in the Illinois State Legislature was a victim of a violent crime. Illinois State Senator Kimberly Lightford was with her husband Eric McKennie in their Mercedes SUV driving in the village of Broadview. They were stopped by three men with guns from a Dodge Durango. Several shots were fired, but it’s not clear who fired the shots. The armed robbers took off with the couple’s SUV.

Lightford’s victimhood is ironic as she has been a vocal critic of the police, under the guise of “accountability” and appears to believe that the state suffers from significant systemic racism against black people (also ironic as she’s the State Senate Majority Leader and a black woman). Also interesting to note that in such a racist state, the Speaker of the State House of Representatives is a black man and the lieutenant governor is a black woman.

In the source article above, the Cook County Sheriff, Tom Dart, has responded to the meteoric increase in carjackings by suggesting automakers “automakers create a 24/7 hotline for motorists and law enforcement to contact if they need to track a stolen vehicle.”

Oh, it gets better. According to the Chicago Tribune, Sheriff Dart “has also created a consent form that car owners can submit to the sheriff’s office, granting them permission to have their vehicle’s tracking information in case it gets stolen.”

I can’t possibly see how this could go wrong or be abused. Especially in a place as openly corrupt and crooked as Cook County. They want you to voluntarily submit to unfettered government surveillance of your vehicle’s location on the off chance you get robbed of the car. Though admittedly, the odds of your being robbed of such seem to be increasing exponentially.

Representative Mary Gay Scanlon (D-PA)

Second up we have US Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon, a Democrat out of Pennsylvania. Part of her district covers South Philadelphia. Apparently not even 24 hours after Senator Lightford was robbed in the Chicago area, Scanlon was leaving a meeting at FDR Park in Philadelphia.

According to Fox News, “Police say Scanlon was approached by two black males, aged approximately 20-30, as she walked to her vehicle before they demanded she hand them the keys. Scanlon handed over the keys to her blue 2017 Acura MDX and one of the suspects drove away in it while the other drove away in a dark-colored SUV.”

She also lost her phone and purse in the robbery. The Congresswoman shows how, if you are properly placed in society, you’re privilaged to resources the rest of us wouldn’t. From her office’s comment on the matter,

Wednesday afternoon, at around 2:45 p.m., Congresswoman Scanlon was carjacked at gunpoint in FDR Park following a meeting at that location. The Congresswoman was physically unharmed. She thanks the Philadelphia Police Department for their swift response, and appreciates the efforts of both the Sergeant at Arms in D.C. and her local police department for coordinating with Philly PD to ensure her continued safety.

She gets not only the PD where the crime occurred involved, but federal law enforcement and her local police department to “ensure her continued safety.” This reminds me of of the irony of that big wall-like fence the Secret Service put up (at taxpayer expense) around Biden’s house, or the literal wall Obama put up around his house in Washington D.C. shortly after he left office. They get special protections because they’re important people, while we are on our own.

According to Fox News, Scanlon (who today is utilizing more police resources than any other car-jacking victim in Philadelphia) has been a vocal proponent of police “reform.” The Hill described a bill she co-sponsored in the House earlier this year as, “Congress wants to make it easier for state and local governments to defund the police by instead funding mental health services and empowering them to respond to emergency calls instead of armed officers. ”

There’s a better than fair chance that at least one of the men who robbed Scanlon had “a mental illness or an intellectual or developmental disability,” which under her law would see police taken out of the picture. When she was robbed she really should have called a social worker.

If there’s any silver lining at all here it’s that these people are having to live with the consequences of their governance decisions. Hopefully they learn here before more people suffer from the violence they’re helping foment and let thrive.
