Team Biden exploring the possibility of shutting down another pipeline

| November 8, 2021

The White House is looking at the effects of shutting down an oil pipeline in Michigan. This comes as Biden’s energy secretary predicted that heating prices will go up this winter. Think back to the deep freeze that occurred in Texas earlier this year. Look back to the deep freeze that the Europeans suffered back in February and March, 2012, when wind turbines froze and solar panels were not up to par. Governments in Europe had to limit the hours people could use their heaters.

From Fox News:

The administration has yet to decide on what to do with Line 5 and officials were gathering information only to present a clear picture of the situation, according to sources who spoke to Politico.

Line 5 is part of a network that moves crude oil and other petroleum products from western Canada, transporting about 540,000 barrels per day. Petroleum is taken from the pipeline in Escanaba, Michigan.

Jason Hayes, the director of environmental policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, blasted the Biden administration for its energy policies, telling Fox News that their work on Line 5 is “just one more example of being divorced from reality.”

“They’re planning to power an industrial nation like the United States on solar panels and wind turbines,” Hayes said, while noting that even the solar panels and wind turbines require “oil, natural gas, nuclear and even coal” to be produced.

Hayes presented a dire picture of what shutting Line 5 could mean if people are unable to get natural gas or the electricity it provides as the nation heads into winter.

“I hope it doesn’t end like this, but where I see it going is unfortunately the same thing that happened in February in Texas: People freezing in their homes,” he said, adding, “Most of the time when it’s extremely cold or there’s a real bad polar vortex situation, typically it’s pretty cloudy and there’s not a lot of wind.”

Fox News has more on the article here.

Doubling up on being Stupid is their obvious goal.

You would think the law of averages would allow them to accidentally get something right at some point! Makes me think that it’s all on purpose.

Mason

They’re trying to dig themselves out of the hole. No, no, no, dig up, Kamala!

It isn’t as obvious as it appears but yes. I am going to have to agree. By creating an artificial shortage this will anger the masses who will demand that something “be done” and then as is totally American, “right now” which will swing the pendulum back into demands for more oil, which is really the fuel that powered the last century, not this one.

By making gas $6 a gallon in the country with the potential to be the world’s largest producer of oil, this is manipulation of the masses at it’s finest.

Germany is a lot more urban and industrialized than the US and they produce more than 30% of their electricity with wind and solar with steady year over year growth. Proving that well designed systems work. This in a country where solar is not a particularly good source due to the weather. Their power grid is better designed and more reliable than ours because with the heavy industrialization the big customers won’t stand for less.

The US is far behind Germany and falling fast behind China in the same way because of failure to adopt modern technology for our power grid. A good analogy would be if we were using steam locomotives for our trains and shipping boats instead of diesel. Sure the steam engine works but it is crazy inefficient and overly costly.

If we don’t continue to raise trajectory we are going to end up being a second world backwards nation with an obsolete power grid and the laughing stock of the world.

George V

Line 5 has been a controversy for years because it runs through the Straits of Mackinac between the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan. An oil spill in the straits would not be good, and some ship dinged the pipe a while ago dragging it’s anchor.
The previous governor, a Republican, started a process to dig a tunnel and bury the pipeline 60 feet or so below the lake bottom. The tunnel would be big enough for the pipeline and workers too.
But… no, greenies and progs are having none of it – no solution is the right solution to them. Current Mich. gov Wretched Whitmer and the extremist AG Dana Nessel want it shut down. If work had been started when first proposed the tunnel could probably have been built by now.

The pipeline provides a majority of the propane (in addition to light crude) to the state which is used for heating in rural areas. One calculation showed that over 1000 propane tanker trucks would be needed to replace the pipeline. Wonder who will drive them?

The Dems will not be happy until everyone is miserable.

Deckie

“The Dems will not be happy until everyone is miserable.”

That is precisely why they’re doing all this. The rising prices, empty shelves and ludicrous regulating and abuse of critical industries is all designed to bring the American people to their knees so they’ll give up and cave to their retarded agenda. “Won’t play ball? Fine. We’ll also fly the illegals to red states to bulk them up with guaranteed democratic votes.”

Is “equity”– equality of poverty and misery– comrade!

“If work had been started when first proposed the tunnel could probably have been built by now.” Very true, but the Wretched One and her incompetent AG want Line 5 shut down. That the peasants will be forced to pay more from dwindling sources of income for heat and transportation doesn’t matter. Let them take the bus! What’s that, about 77 of the 83 counties have very little to no bus service? Then let them walk.

Are the tribes really concerned about the environment or are they just hoping for more money? In my AO it’s the latter. They’re using the left and the eco-hippies/eco-terrorists to do their bidding.

Pipelines are better for the environment anyway. Never got that argument.

KoB

Won’t need no trucks George V. Warren Buffet and his Rail Road Barons will have plenty of tanker cars lined up. There’s a rail car tanker fabrication/repair shop just up the road from Fire Base Magnolia. This time last year they were working one shift. They running 3 now, and have been steadily hiring for the last 8 months. Almost like it was part of the overall plan.

WSB (Welcome South Brothers) Pack up the babies and grab your ol’ ladies…

rgr769

Any word on what Team Biden plans to run them locomotives on? I want to see the size of the battery pack that can pull the even a 12 car freight train loaded with iron ore.

OWB

So, let’s shut down every source of fuel for keeping the peasants warm during winter – said no sane person ever. And while we are at it, let’s make sure that we cripple the automotive fuel industry as well.

Not sure how people in cold climates are supposed to get around in winter when only self-propelled vehicles are allowed. Electric transport, while it sounds good at first glance, is of little practical value when there is no way to power the electric grid.

As an aside, enjoy occasionally watching those off grid building programs. Always wonder what happens when the solar panels are buried/covered in snow for a month or so. And almost giggle watching the assorted vehicles used to build said off grid structures gad about using all kinds of power from various sources.

Back to the eighteenth century– let the un-“woke” peasantry eat cake, comrade!

Mason

When do we start the hunt for giant cetaceans for their oil again?

Anonymous

Nineteenth century– at least according to Moby Dick.

rgr769

Yes, bring back those sail (wind-powered) whaling ships. Clearly a wonderful “green” solution. Let’s all go back to the technology of the nineteenth century. That will be real “progress.” One side effect will be immunity to EMP nuc attack. I think I will start hording pencils and paper.

All to force the ignorant rabble to use virtuous wind and solar power (though practically unworkable) instead… although their betters sure won’t.

A Proud Infidel®™

Let’s not forget that not long ago Governor Wretched was stripped of her Emergency Powers during the outbreak of the virus from China. Could it be just another power grab by her and the MI AG trying to be like Burgermeister Schittapickel trying to only make as many people as they can as miserable as possible?

Natural gas for New England is plentiful just offshore but for the whales.
Used to have nuke plants along the new England coast but for the whales.
Used to can’t trap Lobsters but for the whales but now it’s because…off shore wind farms.

Take a look at the fuel mix in New England on this “real time” web page.
Natural gas is the major fuel and the liberals hate it. Fun page to poke around and learn.

see if you can find a coal plant or even heavy oil.

Annnnddddd there goes dimocrat approval!!!

I swear, 3 more years of this idiot puppet is going to get very intolerable. 😡

AW1 Rod

This administration is too fucking stupid to grasp how fucking stupid they are.

Keep digging that hole, Progtards. November 2022 is coming.

Slow Joe

The Democrats don’t fear the people anymore.

They have perfected cheating.

Roh-Dog

If you take a couple steps back, this situation looks more like the USG is trying to offshore more USD to keep it from sloshing it around domestically.
I’m not a fan of this behavior as its shortsighted, but I also have suspicion that its to get demand up in USD because the Chicomm real-estate bonds are heavily denominated in USD.

Its weaponized dollar game theory.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Maybe the peeps in the demoRat party want to shut down the gas lines so as to have everyone buying electric cars. I think if this is the case, we should see if they have large amounts of stock in the electric car industry.

David

Electric cars aren’t much use when all the electric plants are shut down.

Anonymous

Democrats didn’t think things through that far.

26Limabeans

I want to see the heavy equipment (CAT, CASE, DEERE etc) industry go electric.
And farming….yeah lets see them 16 gang bottom plows dig in that soil.
A charging station every other row.

A Proud Infidel®™

As well as electric Semi Trucks, busy charging stations at every mountain pass!

Double the demand on our power grid when it’s only supplied by wind or solar is going to be interesting.

UpNorth

And Michigan has winter months where the sun hides behind the clouds all but 4 or 5 hours of the month. Kinda hard to charge anything with no Sun for the solar farms.
We have occasion to travel past the huge wind farm by Alma and St Louis, Michigan. Most times, 1/3 to 1/2 of the turbines aren’t turning. Even on windy days, which are most days this time of year.

rgr769

The wind farms frequently have many of their windmills shut down due to the need for maintenance.

Bill R.

Whitless tried shutting down Line 5 earlier this year. Enbridge told her no. They have a contract and it would be illegal to shut it down.

Graybeard

If they were trying to destroy America and kill Americans, what would they do differently?

Are they trying to start a shooting war? Is that what it is going to take to stop these tyrants? I certainly hope not, but what would they do differently if they were?

Don’t threaten me with a good time, GB.

Never attribute to malice what can adequately explained by stupidity… although they’re equally nasty with Democrats.

I have a problem with the term “Team Biden.” It implies that Biden is in charge of the “team.” It is pretty apparent that Gropey Joe is not driving the boat. He is merely the front man. It was obvious to anyone that he knew nothing about the DOJ plan to offer $450K for each purported “minor” claiming to have been separated from its illegal alien purported parent when Peter Ducey asked him about it.

rgr769

Correction: It is spelled Doocy.

For those of you doubting that we are looking at the end of oil as we know it by mid century, take a look at current events.
