Lt Gov Winsome Sears – VA
Congratulations to newly elected Lt Governor Winsome Sears. She is a veteran of the US Marine Corps and veterans are always a refreshing welcome in politics.
Although she created a few “firsts” – namely a woman of color holding such a high office in Virginia and the first naturalized citizen elected to one of the highest offices in Virginia – she appears to be immensely qualified.
Although congratulations are in order, the Democratic progressives embodied in “The Squad” have yet to comment even when asked. Not saying that they have no comment, they just have no comment as of yet.

There’s the Achilles heel of progressives is non white republicans. It’s very difficult and pretty ridiculous to call everyone that disagrees with you, even passively, a racist. It’s even more difficult when those people are not white. They have no response to this as the only response they’ve ever had to losing or disagreement is, ‘you’re a racist’.

Lot of Republican Latinos, especially Cubans. Other than radical L Raza types, lots of Latina skew conservative.

This is what Wiki has to say about her. Seems as if she has taken a lot of hits from life and overcame those hits. MOS was electrician, she owns her own business, and she lost a daughter and 2 grandchildren in an accident.

AOC says the only reason the Republicans won is because the Democrats weren’t “progressive enough” in the general election, which is an interesting, albeit completely wrong, assessment of the reality on the ground.
It will be interesting to see if the Democrats respond by moving to be more progressive in the midterms or more to the center…

And the new Attorney General of Virginia is Hispanic and of Cuban ancestry at that. I believe he is the first Hispanic to be elected attorney general in the history of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
