Weekend Open Thread

| November 5, 2021

The fliers that the political parties send out are no accident. If you read what they say, and think that the comments are silly, remember… They’re aiming for where most of the audience is. They seriously think that the message will resonate. Enjoy your weekend.

Nuts!

Congrats.

Shouldn’t given that 30 count. You’re First all right. First to be a slut puppy whore. May Kong bring you Rats…He brought me Faye Wray. She goes Ape over my Monkey Business.

The Coveted Crown and Scepter, Good Sir! Now be a lamb & get over to the Chesapeake Seafood House and bring us some Shrimps and Cheese Grits.

ChipNASA

LOL, I should drop a bushel of hot and steamy Chesapeake Bay Blue Crabs down your shorts and see how you like it. I bet that Old Bay stings a bit.
LOL 😀 😀 😀

The Stranger

Live crabs would be funnier!🤣

ChipNASA

Thunderstixx

Growing up in a really small railroad town in Iowa I had an introduction to crabs in the middle of the sea of corn that grew everywhere I looked !!!
My Dad, a pharmacist, had a hometown recipe and called it Missouri Lightning.
Kerosene and pine tar mixed together and applied rather liberally all around the nice warm area that the real crabs use to live in, nice and warm, moist and covered with camouflaged also known as pubes….
Smear it on, wrap up in a towel you intend to dispose of and go to bed. When you wake up, they will all be dead.
Works like a charm…..
Not that I had any experience with the nasty little buggers…..
Well…

Poetrooper

He’s probably already had those…😜

KoB

Nope! Them “training films” we watched way back yonder trained me what to look for. Never wanted to herd any excess livestock. 😛

Do lubs me some Crab legs…AND grilled crab cakes. Some Compatriots and I shut down the “all you can eat” buffet bar at Chesapeake Bay Seafood a few years back. Manager came out and said; “That’s all you can eat!”

Veggie beef beast soup and SOUTHERN (sans sugar) Butteredmilk cornbread along with the House Wine, Peach Flavored Sweet Iced Tea for now. If the temp keeps dropping may have to imbibe from the Irish or Canadian Stocks of aunty freeze. Another provision run today, just to see what they had. Got a deal on assorted Progresso Soups @ $1.29, Red Gold Canned ‘maters and sauce for .49, grounded chuck beef beast @ $2.49, and some more Milky Ways @ $1.99, along with other pieces and parts. Woulda got more, but the supply was limited on the shelves…

Eye Doc said I gots to get them Cadillacs taken offen my eyeballs. Any of y’all had that done yet? Good news of that is when they get done I won’t have to wear glasses no more. Been wearing them damn things for 60 years now.

Gotta play ketchup on the thread I’ve not seen today. *smooches*

AW1Ed

Email. Check. Good doggie.

It’s on.

Claw

Had the Cadillac surgery four years ago. Didn’t go full guns in order to stop wearing eyeglasses, so far each annual check-up has come back good, no changes needed, no deterioration noted. So maybe will never have to buy new specs again in my lifetime.

KoB

Tanks Mates. Never liked anybody messing with my eyes…not even eye drops. Only thing I want in my eyes is a lustful gleam. No real choice here, carve or go blind. I’ll leave it up to the Docs and hope that it’s done either well before or just after the 2nd Weekend in December. I shorely want to be able to see The Black Knights skewer them Goats. GABN!

timactual

Had them both done. Piece of cake. Now I need reading glasses, since I got the cheap lenses. Probably should have sprung for the good ones. After all, at my age what the hell am I saving for?

where do you do your shopping? I have not seen those prices in twenty years!

KoB

Good to know TA. Imma not gonna scimp on it. Hell, I got money, I don’t have a wife.

K Roger is my main provision place. I hit several different ones and have for years. I get to know the folks that work there and have a schedule of when the different stores restock and reset the shelves. The grounded chuck beef beast, home boy meat market manager saw me perusing and said “Hey man I know how you are, I gotta discount this cause the sell by date is Sunday, you want some?” Bought.every.damn.pack. One of my super powers is grocery shopping. Comes from watching Mama try to feed 6 of us on $20.00 a week. I’m that little wormy looking fella that’ll eat and drink more than a big dude.

UpNorth

Had both done. Two years later I had to have laser “correction” to clear up the implanted lenses. No problems since then.

AW1Ed

You and Sgt K make up yet?
*grin*

KoB

spew alert ‘Ed.

Thanks UpNorth. Thanks to you fellas, Imma feeling a little more better about it all. Never had any kind of surgery and have never liked having my eyes messed with. Long as the doc puts me in la la land and lets me hold Ms Thang Nurse Good Body’s hand, I figure I’ll be OK. Think my issues with my eyes goes back to that gal Delilah I used to run with. I’m skittish in barber chairs too. 😛

Graybeard

Mrs. GB has had both of her purdy peepers de-Cadillaced.

She developed them due to surgery to correct a torn retinas – different times, each eye.

All good now.

My middle brother also had them removed – his were due to diabetes. He’s fine as well.

Just follow directions!

First – to wish the TAH DWs a great weekend. Airshow at D-M this weekend (if you don’t mind traffic and crowds).

Had the T-birds practicing around D’s Cantina a couple weeks ago. Alas, I have to skip the airshow for the Cochise County Sheriff’s charity ride. Nearly 500 people last year. The Jeep is prepped, MRS D and I will be spending the day jeeping the border.

Wow, great turnout there!

FIRST for the FOUR o’clock hour.

Commissioner Wretched

Whew … glad I missed out on the free-for-all for the coveted, always-earned, never-given FIRST. Rats of the Cong to Chip for his Firstness! In his honor, and for the benefit of all, here’s the week’s trivia column. Kind of a special one, this … it’s the fifth anniversary of the silly stuff. So enjoy! DID YOU KNOW…? The column celebrates its fifth birthday this week! By Commissioner Wretched didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com Five years ago this week, the first appearance of the “Did You Know…?” column was noted. (Noted by me, if not by anyone else, that is.) Since that time, 260 additional columns of basically useless trivia have been written by moi, and you’ve read them all and enjoyed them. (I hope.) So … Happy Birthday to “Did You Know…?”!! Over the course of the five years, a lot has happened. But one constant remained – you could count on this silly nonsense showing up each week. And it will continue to be there. Let’s get started on the next five years! My deepest thanks to all of you who read my silly words, and who take the time to comment or even just smile. You make it worth the time to make it happen. Did you know … … sometimes, being the boss isn’t the best thing? In a recent survey, 35% of American workers polled said they would be willing to forgo a large pay raise in exchange for having their boss fired. (So, contrary to the words of Mel Brooks, “It’s [not always] good to be king.”) … laughter really is the best medicine? Levels of two hormones associated with stress – cortisol and epinephrine – actually drop after a dose of laughter. (That has to be true – I’m never sick, and I look at myself in the mirror every morning and laugh.) … you could be a sufferer of holminthophobia? Save yourself the trip to the Medical Dictionary, though; I’ll clue you in. It’s the fear of being infested with parasitic worms. (Seems the word is longer than the worm.) … the Bowie knife is not… Read more »

That bad switch is why there is double and triple redundancy in cables and circuits that feed Dot.Mil. Had a plumbing contractor tear hell out of an underground trunk cable, been there, untouched since 1927 4th of July weekend in ’05. Collapsed the manholes on each end and just barely missed the back-up fiber that fed RAFB and the FAA Tower. 37 techs working around the clock for 6 days (in shifts) to restore service. Bill for the repairs? $1.9 mil.

I’m always on the hunt for something that tastes good V good taste.

Fine job again, CW…you are muchly appreciated! Happy Birthday to the Column.

Mason

You’ve probably used it in one of your articles already, but I just found it out and thought of you. Did you know the Ann Landers and Ask Abby were related? Not just related, they were sisters. Identical twin sisters. they started their competing advice columns within months of each other and it caused an estrangement.

The most famous (and longest) iteration of Ann Landers (there have been a few women operating under the pen name) was Eppie Lederer (nee Friedman). The original “Ask Abby” Abigail Van Buren was Pauline Phillips (nee Friedman), who has been replaced by her daughter Jeanne.

Only Army Mom

Current bee in bonnet…or, the live or die question come The Purge (according to the sibling)…

The idea that The Brandon Administration(still sounds better than the harris administration) ever even thought giving $450,000 to people who broke our laws, endangered their children and were arrested for said laws is making me furious.

Context

If a soldier ELECTS to PAY INTO an insurance policy that can ONLY be collected on in the event of that soldier’s death in COMBAT during WAR, the settlement would be LESS than this proposed payment. May be the tipping point for me. SHOULD be the tipping point for every member of the military past and present.

OWB

Understand the sentiment, but don’t get the tipping point thing. (You know, the thing.)

Since I never supported any of the Brandon Administration’s objectives in any way, shape or form, where exactly am I supposed to tip? If I am change my position on their agenda, wouldn’t it require that I begin to support them?

Not gonna happen.

Besides, it’s not as if this is the worst thing they have suggested or done to Americans in general or military members and veterans specifically.

(Not disagreeing with you, just sharing some thoughts as I read your reaction to the latest insanity.)

RGR 4-78

“Straw that broke the camels back”.

Poetrooper

Ol’ Poe totally concurs, OAM. As for tipping points, most of us tipped long ago but this fiscal travesty most assuredly should be the tipping point for those active duty and veterans who, quite unbelievably, still support the Brandon Administration.

Only Army Mom

OWB-the tipping point comment is in reference to the point at which I can no longer respectfully disagree with those whose ideologies support Brandon or his party. Granted, after the Afghanistan foul-up, I was pretty much there. But at least I was still willing to hold civil discourse on some things.

Now, I’m warming to the live or die question stance.

Graybeard

OAM – Since Airborne Son has 100% disability from the VA and his chain of command cannot seem to get their Shiite together long enough to get him a medical discharge (injury during training and subsequent injury during deployment) I’m with you on the point where I can no longer respectfully disagree.

Some stupid can only be answered with a iron skillet to the face.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I forgot to mention on my above comments that I had a replacement under the kitchen sink genuine water purifer installed. The one I relpaced was installed back on Nov 14, 2019. I live within 2-3 miles of the water plant and this close, the water has a strong chlorine content and the purifier only lasts a short time. Purifiers remove some minerals unlike genuine under the sink water filters and other cartridge filters. I’m glad I had it changed today so I wouldnt wind up on the cover of TAH stupid Florida criminals. My late Mom had the purifier installed when she moved in back in 1994 and I have been changing it ever since she left us.

rgr769

So what? No one is going to mention that the Russian national in the District of Criminals is indicted by Durham for perpetrating the Trump Campaign collusion hoax on the nation in a massive conspiracy with Clintonistas and the Deep State? I thought The Besig or Mason would be all over this. Iggy Danshenko is the sole source of most of the bullshit about Trump in the fake Dossier other than the Alpha Bank hoax. He was also a pal of Fiona Hill, one of the witnesses in the Ukraine call impeachment hoax. Amazingly, she worked in the NSC with Vindy the Rat.

OWB

Heard a bit of this earlier in the day, but nothing in depth yet. (Nap time interfered with the news cycle.)

It must be causing heads to explode. Or maybe bigger and bitter lies are being broadcast. Guess they could simply ignore it.

How long before Brandon pardons him???

rgr769

Brandon will be oblivious to this, just like the $450,000 payments to illegals. He doesn’t know about anything they don’t put on his teleprompter, the TOTUS.

Poetrooper

Ol’ Poe thought he sent something to Admin about this, but the way his memory is nowadays, that’s not a sure thing.

This whole damned Russian hoax was perpetrated by Hillary in what amounts to a criminal conspiracy and collusion with a foreign power to affect the outcome of an election.

Do you suppose that now that the truth is finally coming out, that Lars and LC will come back to TAH and admit they were wrong?

Sure they will–Libs always admit it when they’re wrong, don’t they?🤨🤨🤨

rgr769

Highly unlikely; the commie cuttlefish lives in a parallel universe. He and Sponge Bob live under the sea in a world of make believe.

nobunny

Here’s an oldie but a goodie. I don’t know why I find this so funny. Maybe the juxtaposition of nerdiness and meat head rock, or something.

OWB

Yep. Well worth a look. Yes, quite funny.

That’s taking the old saying, “Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing,” to the extreme. Really squirrelly landings, but what can you expect from that landing gear configuration?

Thx for posting. Needed a laugh about now. 🙂

Some good news for a change that may be of interest to a few folks (The Stranger, Twist, ND Hoosier) who hail from the Hoosier State around my old stomping grounds.

Starting in 2016 when 23 bison were brought down from the Black Hills in South Dakota and introduced to the Kankakee Sands Nature Preserve, they have been fruitful and multiplied.

This year’s count is now at 43 animals, so if you ever get a chance, visit the preserve and have a wonderful day.

Somewhere in the top 100, ish.

At the behest of Favorite First Daughter-in-Law, we began a self-defense class today for 3 her sons. First lesson was concerning the need to be prepared – especially since they will all be men someday and expected to defend themselves and others. Also situational awareness, determination to win regardless of obstacles, etc.
Some war stories may have been told.

Next session is Lesson II of the NRA pistol course (familiarity with functioning of handguns), followed by Lesson III range work until I run out of ammo or they master the art.

Have some drills I’ve picked up over the years that I intend to run them through (Shooting Illustrated has had a lot of those through the years).

Hit the gym. 30 minutes swimming, 30 minutes on the treadmill at 3.5mph, some reps with the 50lb barbell, etc.

Come home to find 2nd youngest granddaughter caught a stomach bug on her way home from a fun event and was laying on the floor of the bathroom until Grandpa could get some chicken noodle soup and 7-Up over to her house.
