Taiwan Is Next?
I know: this is partly about China, but this BBC article has a photo included that should just make you shake your head.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-58238497
From the article, and the photo is below the following quote: The US suspended its evacuation from Kabul but it has now resumed.
A remarkable picture from Sunday appears to show 640 Afghans packed onboard a US military cargo plane leaving Kabul for Qatar.
The image, not verified by the BBC, was obtained by the US defense analysis website, Defense One.
Panicked civilians had scrambled up the loading ramp, the website quoted US officials as saying, but the crew decided it was best to take off rather than force the Afghans off. – article
And Prezzy Biteme is defending the mess he has created. Geezo Pete, it’s like listening to Nixon make excuses all over again.
Meantime, China is viewing this as a forerunner to their stated intent to seize Taiwan – and just what are WE (the USA) gonna do about it???? The Chinese government is ramping up its presence in the area around Taiwan, exactly as they’ve made a deal with Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers a few weeks ago. And they have no intention of backing down.
From the article: BEIJING/TAIPEI, Aug 17 (Reuters) – China carried out assault drills near Taiwan on Tuesday, with warships and fighter jets exercising off the southwest and southeast of the island in what the country’s armed forces said was a response to “external interference” and “provocations”.
Taiwan, which Beijing claims as Chinese territory, has complained of repeated People’s Liberation Army (PLA) drills in its vicinity in the past two years or so, part of a pressure campaign to force the island to accept China’s sovereignty. – article
Here is a summary of China’s view of the US-Taiwan relationship, with Taiwan’s view thrown into.

For once, I can truly say, with no fear of disagreement from anyone with a working brain cell, that I am glad I did not vote for that idiot. Maybe we should give some thought to bringing our manufacturing jobs back home….

Yeah, no.
Unlike the Afghans, I’m pretty sure the Taiwanese army would fight like hell.
Yep, every rock, clump of dirt, and blade of grass would be defended to the last drop of blood and bullet. Whether we helped or not. Yeah, and at the end of the day the Chinese Communist would be in possession of an uninhabitable waste land. It’s not like the Chinese Communists need the land, people, or the technology of Taiwan. It is simply a “face saving” issue with them.
You had a simple solution to our “China problems” MiLady. Bring our manufacturing back home or to more friendly locations and just quit buying ANYTHING that is made in China. Vote with your pocketbook, they’ll get the message. I have long made it a habit to check the country of origin on stuff I buy. Oblowme made that task more difficult when he did away with the requirement that products had to be marked as to where they were from, but it is doable. Just takes a little research. And yeah, I may pay more for it, but to me that is a small sacrifice to make. Our own corporate people sold out to the globalists in their search for cheaper and cheaper labor and the consumer sold out by buying the junk that was produced. GM took all of the bailout money and are building so much of their product in China now, “for the Chinese Market”. Beagle bagels!
Another reason Trump had to go. He put America FIRST! And he would have defended Taiwan. Prezzy Sniffy was bought and paid for by the Chinese Communists. They are ready to call in their markers and collect.
Taiwan is the key to the First Island Chain. If China controls it, their claims to the South China Sea, the claims to the Senkakus, and the control of the sea lanes from Korea / Japan down to Singapore become legitimate because of the 200 mile rule.
40% or more of the sea trade goes through these sea lanes. Taiwan is the key to control of much of the world’s economy.
The other key seaway is the Suez, and China is trying to control areas in Africa to control the Horn of Africa and control the entrance to the Suez for the same reason.
You mean like the British did against the Germans during the Second World War?
The difference is that the UK survived. Taiwan won’t.
Exactly so, the Taiwanese have a domestic defense industry, they produce their own fighters and are working on their own subs. They will fight and make the PRC pay and Xi has to figure out how to sell the loss of so many sons to one child families in a culture where sons are supposed to provide for their parents. These two situations are not comparable.
Their plan to target Three Gorges Dam as a military infrastructure target is instructive. The loss of life and property would be akin to multiple large nuclear warheads. If they succeed in that task China will be paying for the war for decades.
At this point China has a lot more to lose by starting some shit with Taiwan. Not saying that ever stopped a ruthless regime from seeking more power but some careful analysis might prove fruitful.
…If the Chicoms were smart, they’d wait a bit and then send a quiet backchannel message to the Taiwanese- “You can’t trust them to back you up. We can work something out, just us. ”
And I’d bet good money that someone there would listen.
Yeah, but they have Hong Kong as an example of how that worked out! I’m going with what KoB said for how well they will defend Taiwan.
As for bring back our manufacturing jobs (like Ex-PH2 mentions) first we have to have people that want to work! I guess we could give incentives like a Green Card or Citizenship to anyone who actually wants to work. Not sure how that will go with $15+/hr when you can have it made in China for a tenth of that. We can’t even bring back the skilled labor jobs!
Tucker Carlson actually had a well thought out little rant (saw the clip not the show) about why our programs failed! I had hinted at it on Friday, but he hit the nail on the head. Leave all of our WOKE experiments out of foreign policy.
When that cargo plane lands with those 640 peeps onboard packed in like they were in a sardine can, they would have to be removed with a giant pizza peel. ( flat wood shovel with wood handle)
Taliban cutting a deal with China? Apparently they don’t care about their Muslim brethren, the Uighurs.
The Muslims hate each other almost as much as they hate us infidels.
I’m sure that China is watching the mess in Afghanistan and taking it as a sign that they can do as they please while Biden sits there drooling all over himself!
It’s starting to happen now.

It will always be Formosa
If I’m Taiwan, screw it, I’m going balls to the wall getting nukes anyway I can and as quickly as I can.
Same goes for Japan, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.
SK already has the capabilities to develop nuke powered subs, it’s not a far reach to tip their SLBMs with nukes. They have the infrastructure and the intellectual firepower. I mean, if your next door neighbors are NK and China, and you have to depend on the likes of Biden and Milley coming to your rescue, wouldn’t you want to “keep one in the chamber”?
https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/nation/2021/08/205_313939.html
I could easily see South Korea and Taiwan striking deals with Israel to acquire the nukes that Israel may or may not have.
Japan will never get nukes. They hate them (and for good reason I would say). Hell, after Fukushima they’re getting rid of all their nuclear reactors.
Japan would never make military preparations in secret, nor against treaty, nor would use a deception plan.
Right?
The ChiCom renunciation of “One Country, Two Systems” in Hong Kong pretty well shut the door on peaceful reunification with Taiwan. The people of Taiwan knows what “reunification” means for them and I suspect it is a less popular prospect there than returned Taliban rule is in most of Afghanistan.
I don’t think most people know this but if the Chi Coms get their hands on Taiwan Semi Conductor Manufacturing company, they’ve got the world (and us) by the balls. TSMC makes the world’s most advance chip manufacturing equipment. And if you think the US car companies have problems making cars because of a shortage of chips (and these are not even the most advance chips at all), imagine the Chi Coms destroying our economy by denying us access to TSMC’s equipment. We may have to go back to landlines, vacuum tubes and analog TV sets (if any at all).
