California bacon shortage coming?
Bacon, one of the handful of things in this world that prove that God loves us, has effectively been banned in the State of California. The state overwhelmingly passed a ballot proposition (Prop 12, 2018, which passed by 62% to 37%) to increase the space afforded to certain livestock animals. That proposition is now set to come into effect, but there’s a problem. Only 4% of pork producers are California-compliant.
Poe sends in the Powerline Blog collection of links including this hilarious bit;
This sentence may be my favorite:
The California rules also create a challenge for slaughterhouses, which now may send different cuts of a single hog to locations around the nation and to other countries. Processors will need to design new systems to track California-compliant hogs and separate those premium cuts from standard pork that can serve the rest of the country.
“California-compliant hogs.” That phrase used to apply to Harley-Davidson motorcycles, but now. . .
California voted with their hearts and not their brains. Now they’ll be paying the price, literally.
The good news is that for the rest of us this means that there will be a glut of pork. California consumes 15% of the country’s pork and that will now be dumped on the rest of us. Sweet! I also foresee a great opportunity for TOW to smuggle bacon across the border from his new digs.

California-compliant hogs? That would be Dianne Feinstein and Nazi Pelosi.
Auntie Marxine (dirty) Waters?
Adam ‘Ed Bucks bestie’ Schiff?
How about the ahole that couldn’t get 1% in the Democrat primaries that is the “president” of the senate?
I happily submit, hogs all.
Well, they are both life long trough feeders, who have a great deal of experience with pork.
McDonalds will step in with McBacon
Like McRib, only thinner and crispier.
So the price of bone-in ham and breakfast sausages will drop? And bacon might even drop a bit, too???
Don’t toy with me, Mason!!!
“California voted with their hearts and not their brains. Now they’ll be paying the price, literally”
False. Californians vote with their brains. It is just that those brains are so indoctrinated into the mystery religion of woke/green ideology they are essentially zombies.
I give you exemplar one: spapos
Let the eat soy and suffer… er, “enjoy”… the fruits of their dumbness.
So it was a clean election because all of their brains were freshly washed?
In today’s news, a major bacon smuggling ring was broken up when a tractor-trailer rig was pulled over for failure to signal a lane change.
More bacon for the rest of us. What’s the downside again? Oh, they will force the hog producers to comply, nationwide, and drive the price even higher.
Here’s a novel thought Commiefornia. You want eggs and chickens that are nothing be “free range”? And porkers that are raised in a Marriott V a Motel 6? Fine…Grow your own for in state consumption. With all the people beating feet out of your state, should be some deals on real estate coming up.
“…and on the eighth day, God created Bacon”. Way to go, Big Guy!
Californicastan.
Only the Faithful True Believers in Libtardism or Mulimism need apply.
Remake of Smokey and the Bandit, Smokey and the Bacon, instead of a Firebird, Tesla and Westbound and Drunken (on the climate change Greta Vandoomsberg Koolaid).
Over half the movie is dodging illegal aliens on the CA highway and a 40minute “super charging” session on the ‘bandits’ Tesla Plaid 4-hour chemical-fire-wanting-for-a-spark rolling bomb.
We deserve all of this.
So… after a quick inventory, I still have all the fucks I started the day with. California gets none. Enjoy your miserable, bacon-free lives. And stay out of Arizona.
My Dad used to say ‘ Where everyone agrees, no one does much thinking’. As such, it seems that Californian politicians and voters didn’t think all that much about who actually suffers the most from decisions like this – the Farmers who provide Citiots with the foods they eat..
A few years ago, Minnesota was sued by North Dakota over laws/regulations they had in place about buying electricity from coal fired power plants (ND has a lot). If I remember correctly, Minnesota lost the case and ND plants were allowed to send electricity into MN. The legal term was externialities. MN couldn’t regulate ND plants. Maybe someone should do a little researc and see if this case applies to bacon!
“The U.S. Constitution, through the Commerce Clause, gives Congress exclusive power over trade activities between the states and with foreign countries. Trade within a state is regulated exclusively by the states themselves.”

Let’s NOT forget that California is also a sample of what the left wants to inflict on the rest of the USA, don’t say I didn’t warn anyone!
If freedom is outlawed, I will become an outlaw. This is a solemn promise to my fellow Americans.
Everywhere, all the time: bootleg their tax base away and they will have no choice but to become the tyrants they are.
Thumb, meet eye.
Testify Roh-Dog. Imma wid ya. I gots the high ground and it’s a hill I’m willing to die for.
I stand with Roh-Dog.
What is that old saying? Pride goeth before a fall…. something like that. I hope they are wearing padding of some kind.
The ecohippies/Greens are also having a rough time getting the “general public” and politicians to do things their “way”, whatever that is.
This, too, shall pass.
“This, too, shall pass.”
Iff’n the sh*tstorm could light a fire under its ass, that’d be great.
The part that kills me the most about the “muh climate change”-set is they rely on the words of massive hypocrites and pretend that it’s “the other guy’s problem”. I have by my nature a very low carbon foot print and even a modest rise in my cost of living in NatGas would piss me off to no end, considering how much willful suffering we put up with in this house to keep the bill low.
The compounding force of high energy prices would create more servants of the state, beholden to it for heat and food.
This has always been the plan.
“This, too, shall pass.”
Like a kidney stone.
No pork chops but ‘choppas’ are ok.
Seriously?
