Anyone ever listen to his “testimony” about troops in Vietnam, all of it pure fiction? Well, that recording is included in the Youtube video below, about his lying 1971 whine before Congress.
The report is followed by the partial recording of his 1971 “testimony” before Congress, about things he alleged that American troops did, which, in fact, they did NOT do. Remember, also, that he put himself in for three Purple Hearts and got them. In case you don’t know his history, he was a USNavy officer driving a boat in the Mekong Delta and that is all.

The author of the article includes what Kerry had intentionally left out of his speech: that it was the Viet Cong and the NVA, under the direction of Ho Chi Minh, who committed these war crimes, NOT American personnel. Kerry profited from that lying testimony and has been working that way ever since. And now, he’s handing classified information about Israel to the Iranian government. There is simply no end to the opportunistic, self-aggrandizing crap he will pull.

When the request went out for crewmembers to transfer over to the Swift/riverine force, I put in the request for the transfer and GM1 Smitty told me that he didn’t think that it was for me so I didn’t follow through. Maybe because of my screw up track record onboard, the Navy was worried about me sinking one of their boats. Who knows if I did get to be a member of a Swift boat crew and kerry was on the same boat. I don’t know if he joined the Navy later than me though.

Most of the purported veterans of the Viet of the Nam who participated in Winter Soldier later admitted their stories of war crimes were made up bullshit. Many of them had never even served in an infantry unit or been outside the wire with a weapon. It is sort of hard to harvest any Cong ears with a Remington typewriter or a filing cabinet.

Just an observation, and I wonder if any of the older guys (meaning older than me!) might have some insight; Kerry was in RVN from 17 Nov 68 to (approx) 30 Mar 69. A little over 4 months. Al Gore went to RVN on 2 Jan 71, and was discharged in May 71, Presumably he left the Republic after 4 months as well.

sKerry cat-scratched himself into three Purple Hearts and got to leave early per the guidelines in place at that time. Gore had only signed up for a two year active duty enlistment and by the time he got to RVN only had seven months left to do. However he had applied for an early out to go to school (again) at Vanderbilt and was discharged two months earlier than his original ETS. That was a normal thing during the big shut-down period of 71-72.
Yup. No.1 was a sliver or shrapnel from an M-79 round fired by a man on his own skiff with no enemy contact. The Corpsman treated his “wound” with a bandaid. Number two was rice kernels in his back from an inept attempt to blow up a rice cache; also no enemy contact involved. The third involved a VC ambush of several swift boats; his coxswain made a sharp, abrupt turn and Lurch fell down, bruising his arm. Lurch promptly demanded to go home. Anyway, that is what many who were there have said.
I did a fair amount of research during that controversy, and that’s basically what happened.
There was/is some controversy about Kerry’s actions during the “ambush”. Some witnesses say it was not an ambush, just a mine; no other hostile fire. Evidently SOP for the Swift boats in an ambush where a boat was disabled was to engage and return fire. Kerry’s boat took off like a bat out of hell while the other boats stayed and opened fire, throwing a SF passenger into the water. He later returned and retrieved the SF soldier. The SF soldier struggling to keep his head above water is, I believe, the main witness claiming the Swift boats were actually under fire. Kerry bruised his arm, I think, pulling the SF guy out of the water.
Lurch is a galactic level douchebag, but unlike Da Nang Dick Blumenthal and the Vietnam times Recon Ranger/Reefer mechanic he actually set foot in Vietnam. Beyond that, he has no redeeming value and should be prosecuted for the amount of oxygen he has stolen from the world population (he should also spend the remaining days of his life writing letters of apology to the trees and plants that he has caused to work overtime replacing the oxygen his existence has depleted). For his uselessness in life his eternal punishment should be like Hitler’s in Little Nicky – a pineapple up the azz daily.
If you check the time lines of what swift boats were doing when he volunteered to serve on them and how much later they were assigned to serve in Viet Nam, it is easy to believe that he had no intention of going to Vet Nam and that he went there kicking and screaming, contriving a way to leave as quickly as possible.
That is a reasonable inference, as swift boats were never designed for riverine ops.
This was one of the many things I wrote back in 2004 in support of the Swift Boat Vets and their successful campaign against Kerry. For those unaware, Kerry had spoken on the Senate floor about his memorable Christmas Eve somewhere in Cambodia with a CIA agent aboard his boat, where Nixon had illegally sent him. While the river was lightened by rockets red glare, no one but the President knew we were there. Yes, Lurch could have successfully sued O’Nell for libel and slander for his book and public comments about sKerry’s service in the RVN if the factual representations in the book and O’Nell’s public statements were false. Also, Lurch knew his actual records of his service would be discoverable in any such litigation. Moreover, O’Nell and the other Swifties accused Lurch of lying under oath before Congress, which supposedly is a crime. So Lurch would have had a defamation per se claim if his testimony was true.

IIRC, there were three or four of the seven crewmen who served on his boat who supported him. Three of them vouched for him and two travelled to his campaign events. They likely thought there would be some sweet, sweet spoils for them if he won the presidency.

He was originally assigned to the Navy force blockading the coast of Vietnam, on a destroyer I believe. From there he volunteered for Swift boat duty, which was still off the coast, but closer to shore. After he got to the Swift boats they were assigned to patrol up the rivers, probably a bit more exciting than he had anticipated.
