And This Just In….

Iran is threatening to enact a USS Cole-type of attack on Ft. McNair.

From the article: Iran threatens ‘USS Cole-style attacks’ on Fort McNair and a top general, sources say – James LaPorta, The Associated Press — 1 day ago

Iran has made threats against Fort McNair, an Army post in the nation’s capital, and against the Army’s vice chief of staff, two senior U.S. intelligence officials said.

They said communications intercepted by the National Security Agency in January showed that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard discussed mounting “USS Cole-style attacks” against the base, referring to the October 2000 suicide attack in which a small boat pulled up alongside the Navy destroyer in the Yemeni port of Aden and exploded, killing 17 sailors.

The intelligence also revealed threats to kill Gen. Joseph M. Martin and plans to infiltrate and surveil the base, according to the officials, who were not authorized to publicly discuss national security matters and spoke on condition of anonymity. The post, one of the oldest in the country, is Martin’s official residence.

The threats are one reason the Army has been pushing for more security around Fort McNair, which sits alongside Washington’s bustling newly developed Waterfront District. – article

The article includes the allegation that this is revenge for the killing of the former Quds leader, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, in Baghdad in January 2020.

On a side note, the fencing around the Capitol has come down:  https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/21/politics/capitol-fencing-removed-insurrection/index.html

No coincidence, right?

Me, if I was planning an attack around, say, the SEALS near San Diego, and knew my comms were being monitored… talking about a general near DC would maybe cross my mind. Just sayin’.

Although to be honest, expecting the Iranians to try and spoof us would be like buying into Jerry Reed’s proposed frequency changes in Smokey and the Bandit.

SFC D

That was the precursor to SINCGARS.

AW1Ed

“Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System” and consider yourself in Acronym Jail, SFC D.

*grin*

Eric (the OC Tanker)

That was a great radio system. when compared to the AN/VRC-64, and the AN/VRC-12.

Just say’n.

(Big Grin)

Hack Stone

Don’t be talking smack about the AN/VRC-12. Hack Stone cut his teeth learning the capabilities and limitations of the RT-246’s and RT-524, along with the R-442 and everyone’s favorite radio, The AN/PRC-77 while serving a sentence at MCCES in lovely Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. Years later, while at 1st ELMACO, Hack received his one and only Navy Achievement Medal for his maintenance efforts on SINCGARS. Full disclosure, Hack Stone never touched a SINCGARS radio in his life.

Anyone here remember the TH-81, the component for the Marine Corps MUX system before they finally caught up with 20th Century technology by going to the MRC-142?

SFC D

I remember the TD-660 and the CV-1548.

Ed, for Pete’s sake, will you make ’em speak English?

USMCMSgt (Ret)

I was never a MOS trained COMM person, but have heard some funny stories about how a young Marine was sent to the COMM CHIEF’s office (GySgt) and told to ask for a “PRICK E-7” (PRC-7), (not to be confused with the AN/PRC-77…)

Or the one where a young Marine was sent to an artillery unit and instructed to ask for a 155 BFA…

…or to the flight line to requisition for 150 feet of “flight line”.

Ahhhhh…….the VRC-12 system. A system older then I am. I saw a first issue repair manual, date 1952 (my birth year). So you know it was in development before that. The first commercial radio system to use a backplane, instead of a chassis and point-to-point wiring.

A’y’all played with it, I repaired what a’y’all broke on it (MOS 31E). Yes, the RT-246, the RT-524, the AN/PRC-77 (even got to repair an AN/PRC-25 once), the SB-22, the AN/GRC-106 and all the associated cradles, power supplies, cables, switching boxes, etc, etc.

Then, in the waning years near my retirement, the SINCGARS came out. I was trained on the repair, with all the big boxes of test equipment (et al), don’t remember repairing too many (if any at all).
‘Bout that time, the new updated HF radio sets also came out. Would have liked to have had one of those personally.

Oh, yes, almost forgot. DId a few (unauthorized, was not crypto trained or authorized) KW7 repairs when needed. I won’t go into the details (time, place, methods – for all I know, there may be no statutes of limitations), but I did what I could to keep the signals going.

“Can’t stop the signal, Mal”

SFC D

I was framed. Call my lawer.

rgr769

I’ll be your lawer. But the AN/GRC-109 was the best radio system. It was the only one that came with a 35 lbs. hand crank generator w/ seat. Plus, one could communicate over hundreds of miles.

The Iranians knew we were monitoring their comms and movements long before we got Suleimani, and yet they were so careless that it was precisely that, monitoring his movements and comms, that allowed us to take him out.

Ol’ Poe would chalk it up to recklessness and carelessness rather than deviousness…

Pride goeth before the fall.

Hack Stone

Time for some mandatory refresher training. Those darned Iranians won’t be getting any liberty until 100% completion of Remedial OpSec Training.

Stacy0311

Somebody needs to let the Iranians that we can’t play war yet. We have to wait until we all finish our extremism stand down and supply gets in a shipment of maternity flight suits. And soon as the trannies rehab from surgery, it’s Game On!!!

KoB

No need to survey the target. I’m sure that there is a Kongress Kritter that could get the whole layout of the place in case “…some people” wanted to do “something.” Or maybe, even, a former CinC. He could even help Organize the Community.

MustangCryppie

Just for the hell of it, as soon as I read your comment, KoB, I did a search for a map of Fort McNair.

Less than 30 seconds later, I had several. Isn’t the internet wonderful?

Having said that, something just sounds goofy about this Iranian threat. I know that McNair borders the water, but couching their proposed attack as a “USS Cole style attack” just sounds strange.

Makes me doubt the validity of the threat. Could be wrong, but I would be looking for much more to validate this planning.

OWB

Maybe they are just testing the response? To better prepare for whatever it is they really have in mind.

Or, maybe it just depends upon what they mean by “Cole style attack.” Could be that means “suicide bomber targeting a military asset.” Who knows. Maybe the military could try protecting every thing and every body. Or is that concept too simple?

UPS delivery truck.

rgr769

They should use an Amazon van. There is one on my street practically daily. They are ubiquitous.

Hack Stone

The Internet; It’s not just for porn, anymore.

26Limabeans

The strong gun laws of the DC area should give them pause.

Hack Stone

How long would it take to shift those National Guard troops from Fort Pelosi down to The Waterfront? Plenty of fine dining establishments there to accommodate the troops.

Devtun

For Iran & other hostile gov’ts who want to infiltrate agents, now is a good time as any. The Southern Border is virtually wide open. An all you can eat buffet for bad actors. CBP is now so overwhelmed by the masses of humanity streaming through, they aren’t even bothering to finger print or document – just release into the US as fast as possible w/ no order to appear in court. Never mind the ‘Get Aways” – the thousands of individuals who just slip right through.
People like DHS boss Alejandro Mayorkas, AMB Roberta Jacobson, and many others going to f**k the USA up forever. These are the technocrats in charge of dissolution of America’s sovereignty.

NHSparky

Dear Iran,

One of these days, your actions will cross those of someone who rolled out of bed thinking, “I wish a motherfucker would.”

That won’t be a good day for you.

ChipNASA

Is it bad I laughed at this? because I laughed at this.
And the visual was awesome. How many redneck/giant beard/fat beer belly/overly excited/most every Marine/Dude with a *massive* man cave armory (hey I’m working on it, my budget and new safe can only hold so much) are just sitting there on the edge of the bed scratching their crotch and then their heads (bald/high and tight/”retired and fuck it” hair) and then contemplating their choice of morning beverage (Beer/Bang/Whisky/Coffee/the rest of last night’s adult beverage sitting on the table, remember boys and girls, alcohol abuse is a no no!) before the upcoming Boogaloo.
And awayyyyy weeee goooooooo
