“Wikipedia is Badly Biased”
Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger
The Wikipedia co-founder claims the reference site has been deleting citations from conservative sources flying in the face of its touted neutral point of view (NPOV) policy. Anger at the platform’s left bias has him starting a new reference source, “Encyclosphere.”

Wikipedia’s leftist bias called out by its co-founder, who is leading the start-up of a rival to be truly unbiased
By Thomas Lifson
The left’s capture of Wikipedia and its transformation into a progressive propaganda organ has had profound political consequences. Founded on the premise of “NPOV,” or neutral point of view, the free online encyclopedia now downplays and often omits entirely points unfavorable to the left, while pushing left-wing tropes. Its co-founder, Larry Sanger, is angry at the betrayal of its original promise.
Carrie Sheffield writes at Just the News:
Last May, Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger wrote an op-ed on his personal website titled “Wikipedia is Badly Biased” claiming that Wikipedia’s neutrality policy — known as “NPOV,” or neutral point of view — “is dead.”
Now, when schoolchildren visit the Wikipedia website to look up answers to questions about the meaning of socialism, “they’re going to find an explanation that completely ignores any conservative, libertarian, or critical treatment of the subject,” Sanger told “Just the News AM” television program. “And that’s really problematic. That’s not education. That’s propaganda.”
Sanger referred to a Fox News report last week by Maxim Lott, which noted, “The two main pages for ‘Socialism’ and ‘Communism’ span a massive 28,000 words, and yet they contain no discussion of the genocides committed by socialist and communist regimes, in which tens of millions of people were murdered and starved.”
That’s poisonous, even if, as the article points out, some of the damaging information comes out in other sub-articles not found on the main page, where most children go to learn about a subject. Sanger traces the fall of Wikipedia to the point today, where “Wikipedia started getting rid of citations from conservative sources, ‘even conservative sources that were cited in order to explain the conservative point of view.'”
This is how to break the stranglehold the Left has on media- offer alternatives that provide facts, regardless of who’s ox is getting gored. Read the rest of the article here: American Thinker
Thanks, Poe. I never did like Wiki as a reference, anyway.

there is a very good reason that wiki is not an academically relevant resource. Not only are the articles often politically curated, but in a large percentage, they are completely factually wrong.
The real problem is that wiki used to be a great place to get a start on a bibliography or general topic related information.
But when working on my MSITM in 2010-12, it was abundantly clear that many if not most of the business and IT related entries were just garbage and useless for anything.
Kind of a shame, but when one side has all of the “privelege” (or power as the wokies say), this is what you get.
Coming next, the end of plagiarism rules in college. After all, the poor dears like Dumkopf are incapable of original thought.
Biden knows all about plagiarism.
Sing it 25X, the choir is backing you up. Wikipedia is about the worst possible source to find unbiased factual information. Indeed, become an editor and make your own facts up as you go.
‘Bout time! And muchly needed. We all know and have seen what Ret_25X is speaking of. I guess this is shorely a case of getting what you pay for. You go to Google Foo any subject and BAM 2,469,269 hits. And within the FIRST (hr 2 Sea Dragon) 3 will be a Wiki Linky. Until I got a bit more ‘putor literate, I dug thru my old research books. Now I use those to back up the deep digging, WELL PAST the Wiki Link. I use them to figure out what is NOT the “rest of the story.”
Been using that duck duck go thing more lately too.
Yeah, I switched to duck-duck about a year ago.
Wiki started out good but is now is just leftist drivel that
hits all the right talking points. It is literally an open
source of political speech. Anyone can edit it and “anyone” does.
It was the Gersh Kuntsman circus that convinced me.
Gersh Kuntsmann is still the funniest fucking thing I’ve read in a long, long while…
What a whiny sack of shit pretending to be a man…
If I ever bitch up as badly as that jerkoff did I hope my brothers put a pillow over my face and hold it there until I quit wiggling….
Duckduckgo.com and Firefox are my go to search engine/ web browser.
Firefox for browsing…Thunderbird for email.
I might even cosider donating if they keep up
the good work.
I quit FireFox when the Board fired their newly hired (11 days) CEO because he made a PRIVATE donation in support of a pro hetero/anti gay marriage resolution being bandied about at the time (2014). All the news say “resigned”, but that’s just a euphemism for “fired”.
Then you want to use his newest browser Brave-its excellent and has been my primary for more than a year now.
Brave is my go to browser too. It also runs better than FireFox.
Wiki’s only ever been good for inane trivia or fishing for sources to read rather than the articles themselves. The fact that they sanitize uncomfortable subjects further degrades what little use they had in any way.
I won’t even give them that much credit. Wiki Link is nothing more than a digital fish wrapper.
Now, to be fair, when looking up stuff like P51 Mustangs, tanks, ships etc, which are pretty neutral things, they are pretty informative. Other than that, not so much.
This is right, it’s a great starter source I find.
Especially as I get older and try to remember certain songs and when they were released exactly during my errant youthful days on this planet…
I don’t trust any source completely, but Wikipedia can point you at a direction and if you’ve half a brain you can sort the truth of a thing out in short order.
Our problem today is that too many can’t be bothered with considering a secondary source and the Wikipedia becomes their only base of information.
The photos are great.
Wikimedia for the most part is a good place to go for photos.
As soon as he gets his new site up and going google will ban it for harmful racist misogynist harmful non-inclusive white supremist content.
I don’t support them with any moola shmoola donations
Anyplace that I go that asks for money, gets used even MORE by me, not necessarily, because in the case of Wiki, they are a bunch of garbage, but a reference for some stuff, but, they get this every time I open them despite their cup rattling. (does NOT apply to TAH tho)
I apologize to Ex-PH2 in advance….
If I tried that on my small dark feline, I’d be typing with one finger instead of two.
an alternative exists:

No, he don’t say!
As much as it may suck, the fact of wikipedia is worth the caution required when using it. Similarly with youtube. There is so much useful and accurate information, catering to a world of interested participants that the system/structure is worthy of preservation.
Regulatory refinement which provides recourse or redress by those who have met with adversity from unregulated arbiters can be effected in various ways while involving external ombudsman, peer review and an orderly process to sort and parse those matters that have ended with exclusion can be rechanneled into a separate category for refinement or classiffication.
Wiki is a handy casual reference, but whenever they start rattling the tin cup (PLEEZE DONATE TO KEEP US ON TEH INTERWEBZ) I ignore them, remembering what a leftist bunch of bastards they are.
Nice to see someone with a voice actually press the idea of bias in a forum that might have some traction nationwide.
There has been a steady stream of assaults on the truth, those assaults come from all manner of political affiliations or non-affiliations in reality.
We are largely a nation of liars these days.
That said, one need only look at Trump’s “Kids in Cages” becoming Joe Biden’s “Migrant Youth Facility” to understand that one side has the power of the nationwide media voice at its disposal to present the exact same situation as a completely different narrative.
For my money how Trump was treated as president by the media is exactly how EVERY politician should be treated by the media with endless skepticism and ceaseless scrutiny.
For me that was one of the best parts of the Trump presidency, he couldn’t take a piss without someone measuring clarity and quantity.
Now that Trump is gone we are once again back to the sort of nonsense we find on Wikipedia where the narrative of Democrats as morally superior to their Republican counterparts and Western Democracies more horrible than Communist totalitarian regimes is repeated ad nauseam to the delight of the wienies who gobble this crap up in large doses.
Trump the warmongering, child caging monster has been replaced by Biden the benevolent force of might behind our allies the Saudis, providing migrant facilities for the visiting guest youth who’ve crossed the borders unaccompanied.
The sad part for me is the vast number of our fellow Americans who seem unable to comprehend what’s happening right in front of them.
Wikipefia is neutral and unbiased! Snopes sez so!
Couldn’t resist…
When I saw the headline, I thought it said:
“Wikipedia is Baldy Biased”
The photo of George Costanza made me do it!
I’m sure you will soon be writing about how Wikipedia is supporting systematic racism since there is likely an under representation of minority contributors to Wikipedia information.
I added the Encyclosphere website to my favorites so I can keep an eye on it. After reading what the plan is on Dr. Larry Sanger’s website, it seems like Dr. Sanger wants to get it on par with Wikipedia in terms of articles and information as soon as possible so it can be a competitor. He has an announcement stating that he is looking for experts, writers, legal personal, web developers, etc. to jumpstart the website along with people to promote it.
His plan can be read in detail here: https://larrysanger.org/2019/10/ksf/
