Les Brown – Even in Death, The Claims Persist

| February 9, 2021 | 104 Comments

Les Brown

Other than the question of the Annual Chili Feed, we thought that the chapter of Les Brown was closed with his death. We posted about that here.

Well it seems that the good people of Elko, Nevada are still under the impression that Les retired from the military as a Master Sergeant and are raising money with that claim even after Les has died.

Also, Les now seems to have been awarded a Bronze Star.

None of this shows up on Brown’s official military records.

FOIA – NPRC – Summary Sheet – Lester Kent Brown

The rest of Brown’s records can be found in the original post here.

The Master Sergeant and Bronze Star claims do not even show up on the DD-214 that Brown presented in his defense of embellished claims.

NOTE: The bronze star on the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) is a small bronze star that designates a second award of the NDSM and should not be confused with the Bronze Star Medal.

DD-214 Presented by Lester Brown

But none of this has seemed to deter those familiar with Les Brown from raising money based on these claims.

Here is Les Brown wearing unsubstantiated Master Sergeant rank insignia out in public – one at a parade and another during a school visit with kids.

Les Brown with Master Sergeant Rank Insignia

We have no issue with raising money to help with expenses, but it should not be done under false pretenses.

It is surprising that the Elko Daily Free Press did not do an article honoring Les Brown upon his passing – especially since they rigorously defended him and his claims when Brown was called out.  I would have expected to see them double down and have an article with photos of Les Brown visiting the schools and hugging the children with his military uniform on.  That would have fully completed the Les Brown circle.

Perhaps the Elko Daily Free Press could have even donated a full-page tribute to raise money off of the claims of Master Sergeant and Bronze Star?  Seems only fitting since Brown was a local military legend.

What about those kids who hugged Les Brown with tears in their eyes after hearing his stories?  Don’t they deserve to hear some kind of tribute with his passing?

If the Elko Daily Free Press would have published a tribute and/or fundraiser for Les Brown, they could have counted on us to bring awareness to them bringing awareness.

After all, the driving principle seems to be that it does not matter whether something is true or not, what matters is whether you can invoke passion and prompt people to donate money.  Les Brown fully embodied this principle as well as taught this to people around him.  Les Brown was quoted as saying “They talk about things we wear on our vests that we didn’t earn. Well, we all wear something on our vests that we didn’t earn.”  (Elko Daily Free Press – July 26, 2019)

Or is it all just too uncomfortable to print?

[Special thanks to MarineDad61 for the awareness and links.]

Proud FIRST on this article commemorating a world class, unrepentant POSer Valor thief. We see his minions are still denying the reality that this phony never made it beyond E-4; was nothing but a garden variety MP; was never Ranger, Airborne, or Special Forces; never a recipient of a CIB; and had never even served in a combat zone. He did accomplish one thing last year: He’s dead, Jim.

We might have some sympathy for his family if they weren’t perpetuating his frauds and attempting raise a few bucks off his corpse from the clueless.

    • MarineDad61 says:

      Ahh, I’m envious (3rd here).

The fam were (ARE!) complicit phony deniers and phony enablers.

      Worse then denying reality,
      the family is stacking on.
We could all keep quiet the past 6 weeks,
      but no more.

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaand the grift goes on.

Allow me to modify “the beat goes on” by the Kings to show my admiration for this feat of fraud:

    Hey Judy, get Trudy
Ya said to call you up if I was feelin’ grifty
Hey little Donna, ah still wanna
Ya said to ring you up when I was dead
I have lots of friends that I can grift with anytime
Can mobilize some bucks with just one call
Like a bunch of liars we’ll grift till way past dawn
Sure we’ll be griftin’ even tho I’m dead
    Yeah, this grift goes on
And on, and on, in Elko

  3. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

Like Don Shipley once said in a TV Interview, “A lot of these Guys will take their lies with them all the way to the Grave.”, and Les brown made himself a fine example of that.

  4. Daisy Cutter says:

There should be some baseline dignity granted to the deceased, but Bernath and Brown seemed to have blurred that line.

  5. Buckeye Jim says:

Well, he did have a Band of Reknown that performed with Bob Hope.Oh, wait a minute. That was another guy. My bad.

(No FakeBook necessary, all visible to the public on the internet.)

This is the SOURCE post of the Les Brown Glock Raffle,
with the phony bologna claims of Master Sgt. Bronze Star.
Which, of course, leads to “Jennifer”, the creator of the raffle.
Anyone can follow the trail of Likes, Loves, comments, and shares.
They are not all dupes or victims.
I recognize many of the names, going back to 2019.
Deniers and counter attackers, rude, miserable, lying, rotten people,
who wish illness and death on legit war veterans who speak the truth.

On the list (of shares), POW*MIA UTAH.
    Total enablers.

  7. ninja says:

The “Jennifer” in the flyer (the Point of Contact) is Jennifer Sweden Saxton who operates Sister Food Service in Spring Creek, Nevada:

Jennifer is on FACEBOOK…if one has FACEBOOK, please research her full name on FACEBOOK…you will see her posts advertising the Raffle Tickets.

This is her business, which matches the contact number on the flyer:

Trying to give Jennifer the benefit of the doubt, i.e. she may be ignorant reference the Bronze Star Medal (BSM) and assumed that that Brown’s Bronze Star annotated with his NDSM is the “BSM” (have seen this happened with folks who are not aware of the difference between the two).

Additionally and again, trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but she may be ignorant on his Rank based on what she was told by others, possibly by Brown’s Widow (MSG/E8 VS SPC/E4).

What is so sad is that folks in Elko and the surrounding area to include his Widow KNOW THE TRUTH about Brown’s Military Service (Unless they are STILL IN DENIAL)…and are letting her advertise this Flyer with others via her FACEBOOK account.

Brown’s Widow SHOULD have all of his Military Paperwork (DD214) UNLESS Brown forged his records before he passed away (and the irony of his passing? Supposedly he passed away from ALS…the same disease Jonn had).

Hopefully, Jennifer will be contacted with the truth about Brown’s Military service. Not going to look good if there is “Indirect” STOLEN Valor..i.e. Jennifer giving a false impression about Brown’s Military Rank as well as advertising him receiving a BSM in order to gain money to give to Brown’s Widow.

Hey, where’s Lars? Not enough of an anti-Trump angle he can fit in here?

    This is infuriating, too:

NOTE: The bronze star on the National Defense Service Medal (NDSM) is a small bronze star that designates a second award of the NDSM and should not be confused with the Bronze Star Medal.

Yeah, but here’s the kicker: Brown doesn’t rate that “bronze star” either!

Look at his dates of service: He rates the coveted NDSM for exactly one period: The Desert Storm period, which ended in 1995 IIRC. He doesn’t have one single day of service before 1976 (which would qualify him for the Vietnam-era NDSM) nor does he have a day of service after 9/11 (which would qualify him for the post-9/11 NDSM.)

That was a mistake the Army made and now that it’s in his DD-214 it’s like it’s carved into granite.

  11. Annonymous says:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolen_Valor_Act_of_2005 & https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stolen_Valor_Act_of_2013 and we NEVER see ANYONE you dumbasses falsely accuse get charged or arrested. You are just a bunch of KARENS who are trying to relevent………

  12. Claw says:

Just another reminder: The “Bronze Star” that is the subject here is not even a legitimate entry on the DD214.

Ole Brown Stain was only 15 years old when the Vietnam NDSM period ended and his only eligibility period was for the Gulf War time frame. Being activated once and going to Germany as a back fill and then again being reactivated for nine days federal active duty (Operation Garden Plot) in May 1992 does not qualify for the addition of one Bronze Service Star to be worn on the NDSM.

I figured for sure that the club’s XO Tom Wulf (who took over after Les bit the dust) would have put the kibosh on all this fundraising stuff, but I guess not.

  13. Green Thumb says:

Even in death, Les Brown is working those claims to the max.

  14. Claw says:

    Question for the admins:

Since the subject of Tom Wulf (Les’s Numba One Sockpuppet) was brought up, and it was reported (way back when) that the FOIA results on him were obtained, is it possible to publish those results here and now for further commenting?

There were questions back then that are still unanswered today, such as why is Wulf was seen wearing an 82nd Airborne Division pin, yet his only active service was Navy and then he went into the Nevada National Guard for the remainder of his “service”.

    Just asking. Thanks

  15. ninja says:

    The Jennifer in the Flyer?

I think her Sister is Brown’s Widow.

    • MarineDad61 says:

I don’t know the connection to Jennifer, but…

Someone uploaded an update to Jennifer’s Glock Raffle graphic,
edited for accuracy, on the Elko Daily Free Press FakeBook page.

      like many bereaved families do.
Jason Brett West learned that lesson, the hard way.

Wonder if Sis ever served Sal Manela? Or Tricky Nociss? Bet there is plenty of sh^t on her shingle by now. Just reading of this made me sick. Somebody needs to go rescue that poor puppy dog. She prolly forces him to lick peanut butter that has been placed in strategic spots.

    1 – NO CHILI FEED for 2021.
    2 – FUNDRAISING drive.

As you all know the last year, especially the last few months have not been the best.
Things have changed for our association.
But we are continuing strong for our mission.
We are hoping to start up again soon.
Because we were unable to have the Chili Feed this year we will have to come together and change a few things but we will be as strong as ever.
    Please continue to spread awareness.
Thank you for your ongoing support.

  23. Keepin' It Real says:

Tom Wulf – Nothing in your official military records indicates that you served with the 82nd Airborne, yet you wear the pin. Why is that?

    Tom Wulf - 82nd Airborne

Since you are a self-proclaimed expert at reading DDD-214s, perhaps you can enlighten us? Is it on that elusive *classified* DD-214? If that’s the case, how come others that served in the 82nd Airborne show it in their official military records?

If you are taking over the organization for Les Brown, can we expect you to continue in his ways, or clean up the organization of all the deception and embellishment?

    Asking for a friend.

    • MarineDad61 says:

      Keepin’ It Real,
Tom Wulf can now promote himself to O-6 COLONEL,
and replace that silver leaf LTC on his black beret.
      Or not.
Either way, that silver leaf has got to go.

      • Green Thumb says:

        I saw that.

I can maybe get the 82nd pin if maybe his son/daughter etc., served in the unit. If not, it has to go.

But the rank is nonsense. He is also wearing PSG rank on his vest as well.

Dude looks like he had a tablespoon of weaksauce. And I mean some strong ass weaksauce. What kind of fucking clown with any awesomesauce goes around town dressed like this shitbird.

Or maybe that is the Elko Standard. Wound not surprise me if this fool has been harboring aspirations to be in charge of the organization.

2021 Elko POW*MIA Awareness Ass. Fundraiser WATCH.

No chili feed. Just give. They are up to $50.

Does anyone else have the same sinking feeling about the outcome?
    Listed here.

    • MarineDad61 says:

      24 hours later, still $50.
      Now I wonder,
is that $50 actual donations, or tumbleweed seed?

    • MarineDad61 says:

      79 hours later…. and it’s STILL $50.

The Elko POW*MIA Awareness Ass. fundraising post
is getting clicks, and being shared around.
But it looks like NADA when it comes to
putting THEIR OWN money where their mouths are.
Unless it involves large pots of chili.
And in 2021, there is no chili.

  25. SgtM says:

If ole Les was a retired E8 then his wife would be getting that retirement pay. Has anyone asked her that?

    • MarineDad61 says:

Les Brown would have been collecting since February 2020,
      when he turned 60.
Simultaneously, I commented about veteran headstone,
which is likely a real problem right now.
Because truth and verification gets in the way.
      Sad, but ugh.

      • rgr769 says:

There is no way, based upon the DD-214s we have seen he would have done the required 20 years of qualifying service of AD and “good years” of reserve component duty. All of his service according to the NPRC adds up to about 17 years and five months. Moreover, that assumes each of those years was a “good year,” which is highly unlikely. IIRC, one of the commenters said that Brown was dropped from his unit after Brown stopped showing up for drills.

        • MarineDad61 says:

It’s possible when part-time National Guard is part of the service.
          That’s MY career.
It won’t show up on DD-214 NOR FOIA.
(My war service and active duty does.)
My 20 year retirement and age 60 retirement pay
are both functions of state NG HQ.
This could be the case with Les Brown,
          but highly unlikely,
and at best as an E-5.

More than likely, the tales of his career falling short
are mostly true, and he likely never made 20,
even as a part time NG or Reserve.

  26. MarineDad61 says:

    Future cemetery WATCH.
Les Brown may be entitled to a plot in a National Cemetery.
Les Brown may be entitled to a FREE Veteran Headstone.

IF Les Brown qualifies for the headstone,
it will include VERIFIED information such as:
    12. Highest rank attained (E-8, or E-5, or E-4).
    16. War service. (Not war era service.) Or not.
It’s all on VA FORM [DEC 2017] 40-1330

If someone is now having a problem getting the stone they hoped for,
    it wouldn’t be surprising.
Sadly, the public display of the stone will be the final nail.

  27. bmorgan says:

There is a guy named Peter Likey that recently passed away.

Peter was gay, and upon his passing his wishes were to be cremated and have his ashes evenly divided among three of his former lovers. Upon receiving the urns, the three men got together and shared their intentions.

Richard, the first lover, said he was going to spread Peter’s ashes on the highest mountain he could find since they spent many nights under the stars out camping and the mountains were his favorite.

Johnson, the second lover, said he was going to the ocean and spread the ashes in the crashing waves claiming Peter loved the ocean and couldn’t think of a tribute more fitting.

Frank, the third and last lover, said he was going to sprinkle Peter’s ashes on a bowl of chili before he ate it so that Peter could tear his butthole up one last time.

  28. MarineDad61 says:

I have just seen a FaceBook PM conversation

[Please thank those websites and those veterans

[The bullying is over. We thank you guys.]

For everyone at MP and VG/TAH,
and the fans and followers here,
consider this a decisive victory for truth over Stolen Valor,
even if we didn’t see victory (or believe it) for a long time.

    IMHO, from 2021 on,
if we see the Elko POW*MIA Awareness Ass
    bumble, stumble, trip, or fall,
    we know why.
    It was self inflicted,
    by that entire organization chapter.

And so, a NEW chapter begins… in Elko, Nevada.

    • Daisy Cutter says:

You deserve a lot of credit, MarineDad61.

Les Brown and his ilk got behind a military issue and blurred the lines as to integrity. In other words, it was a cause larger than themselves.

They didn’t represent the cause well, and some would forgive or look the other way.

If you take on one of these causes, you should hold yourself to a higher standard as opposed to using it to hide behind. It doesn’t wash away your sins.

Most honorable people would resign and say something to the effect that they don’t wish to be a distraction from the main effort. Les was different, and felt that he was the effort.

Shame on them for raising money in the manor that they did – passing themselves off as military representatives when they embellished their claims.

      • MarineDad61 says:

        Daisy Cutter,

For all the work everyone at MP and VG/TAH does (so well),
