Trump’s Senate Impeachment Trial Redux

| January 24, 2021

“Make no mistake, a trial will be held in the United States Senate and there will be a vote whether to convict the president,” opined Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will send a single article of impeachment against Trump to the Senate on Monday, clearing the way for his next trial to start.

The Senate is constitutionally required to begin Trump’s impeachment trial at 1 p.m. the day after the article is transmitted. The question is, why?

Growing Number of GOP Senators Oppose Impeachment Trial

WASHINGTON (AP) — A growing number of Republican senators say they oppose holding an impeachment trial, a sign of the dimming chances that former President Donald Trump will be convicted on the charge that he incited a siege of the U.S. Capitol.

House Democrats, who will walk the impeachment charge of “incitement of insurrection” to the Senate on Monday evening, are hoping that strong Republican denunciations of Trump after the Jan. 6 riot will translate into a conviction and a separate vote to bar Trump from holding office again. But GOP passions appear to have cooled since the insurrection, and now that Trump’s presidency is over, Republican senators who will serve as jurors in the trial are rallying to his legal defense, as they did during his first impeachment trial last year.

Arguments in the Senate trial will begin the week of Feb. 8. Leaders in both parties agreed to the short delay to give Trump’s team and House prosecutors time to prepare and the Senate the chance to confirm some of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet nominees. Democrats say the extra days will allow for more evidence to come out about the rioting by Trump supporters who interrupted the congressional electoral count of Biden’s election victory, while Republicans hope to craft a unified defense for Trump.

Trump has obviously vacated the White House, and while DC politics is vicious it doesn’t occur in a vacuum. Dems have a very real goal and are willing to look ridiculous to achieve it. Read the rest of the article here: Breitbart

    The Dems-We must unify.

Also the Dems-We must crucify Trump and those who voted for him!

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

The dems want one united People, of the united Nation, under their uniting Leader.

Sounds like the Left are repeating something the Left said a while back.

      • Penguinman000 says:

I blame taking civics classes out off high school. They appear to have a fundamental ignorance of how government is supposed to work in our country.

  2. Graybeard says:

As evidence of how low the Congress critters have fallen, they now all resemble kangaroos, in court.

  3. KoB says:

These stoopid mofos are the ones doing the “incitement of an insurrection.” Their insidious attempts to destroy our Republic are pushing “We The People” more and more. You can only kick a dog so much before he turns on you and bites.

Keep it up, fuzzballs, Hell ain’t full yet! The Barbed Cock of Satan awaits your worthless Souls.

  4. Sapper3307 says:

So is Trump gonna run for Senate and become house speaker? it would be beautiful. Change my mind.

  5. UpNorth says:

Nice, Ed. Throwing that Seagull bait out there on a fairly quiet Sunday. 🙂

  6. Sapper3307 says:

So Trump gets 2/3 of of the Republican’s + 1/3 of the Dim’s.
    Lars lost himZerS mind!

  7. Ex-PH2 says:

I have found watching paint dry to be far more interesting than anything these clowns have to say or do. If they stuck to doing what they were hired to do, which is government work, that would be nice. They seem to forget that we don’t work for them. They work for us because our taxes go into their paychecks. So if they can’t get over this ridiculous, infantile obsession of theirs, they need a timeout, some counseling about their hatred, and a good solid reminder that no one really likes any of them.

And when is that wrinkled old cow going to vacate the premises and go home?

“…Republican senators who will serve as jurors in the trial are rallying to his legal defense, as they did during his first impeachment trial last year.”

    Well, not all of ’em:

    • David says:

Why are you confusing Romney with a Republican? Or (with apologies to Johnny Depp) is he a “Republican’t”?

    • Mason says:

Why doesn’t he just switch parties and be done with it? He could be one of those turncoats that goes “Independent” but then caucuses with the Democrats (why is it all the independents caucus with the Ds?).

  9. Twist says:

It seems that Pelosi is cool with the storming of Capitol buildings. Apparently insurrection and subverting the Democratic process is perfectly acceptable when the Democrats subjects do it. I’m sure Lars will be along shortly to tell us how this is (D)ifferent.

  10. Slow Joe says:

    I don’t know what’s going on.

How can we be losing to the Left, allowing them to scheme and steal or elections in a bid to unmake America and reduce us to a second rate power, when we won the friggin Cold War against the Soviet Union!

What the hell is going on?

    • MustangCryppie says:

Looks like the defeat of the Soviets was just a battle and not the war. The really important battle was going on in our educational system and the commies seem to have won that one.

Which pisses me off since I pretty much spent the 80s deployed as a Russian linguist in the USN. I really thought we were winning.

The country we have now sure as fuck isn’t the one I helped defend for 25 years!

  12. A Proud Infidel®™ says:

Remember how the D-rats screeched “Dissent is Patriotism” while Donald Trump was President but labeled it otherwise during the B. Hussein 0bama years? I’m sure that it’ll be no time at all until dissent with the current administration is labeled “treasonous” or “Insurrectionist’ among other things. AOC has already babbled about us on our side needing “reeducation”!

    • SFC D says:

During the Obama years, dissent was racism. Dissent against Biden is pointless because we all know he ain’t the one making the decisions. Pay no attention to the Pelosi behind the curtain.

  13. 11B-Mailclerk says:

They seem to be trying to instigate more stupid, and thus justify their inevitable crackdown.

There is even a template. When Free blacks resisted the Klan, the first Jim Crow laws restricted arms. And the Donks have their Dial-A-Riot allies. Just a matter of time before the MoonBats start shrieking about some donk-controlled shithole. Count on the Donks to repeat.

  14. David says:

The battle is already joined. Note articles, such as todays in AP, on how reckless states are in allowing unlicensed concealed carry. Bet on Federal legislation to progressively outlaw all carry laws coming soon. First Constitutional carry, then all concealed carry. Who really needs it, anyway?

And are you noting the articles praising kids turning in their own parents for “invading the Senate”? Bet they get Heroes of the American Soviet awards…

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

One of those tattletale tantrum-throwers now has a go fund me for life expenses. Seems his parents kicked his ass out.

No basement dweller is he. Lol.

  15. Sapper3307 says:

But can we impeach Obama next?

    • rgr769 says:

Plus, by their new rules, Congress could impeach Bill and the Hildabeast.
How about that Klansman, Robert Byrd? Wouldn’t it be great to see his corpse propped up in the Senate for the “trial.”

  16. OWB says:

“…there will be a vote whether to convict the president,” opined Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Is Schumer even aware who is the sitting president? Almost as odd as his, uhhhhm, other statement.

  17. justplainjason says:

If we convict a bunch of pawns who don’t really matter, but fail to hold anyone who led them down the path accountable then maybe we are just showing there really is two different justice systems.

    • justplainjasonsass says:

And you’re figuring that out now???? There has been two separate systems… one for those who have $$$$ and one for those that don’t… and it’s been that way for a long time, Bucko.

      • rgr769 says:

You obviously have split personality disorder, Jason and the other Jason. But Jasonsass has all the brains.

  18. xyzzy says:

How Good; old Upchuck Schemer wants to expel a President who is already out of office.

I don’t see Trump taking the Presidency again in any case. So this is all a big waste of resources we need to use in order to fight Covid.

    Damn. Just…SMH.
