Al-Qaeda’s Number Two Killed
Abdullah Ahmed Abdullah, also known as Muhammad al-Masri, is an al-Qa’ida senior leader and a member of al-Qa’ida’s leadership council, the “majlis al-shura.” Abdullah also is an al-Qa’ida financial officer, facilitator, and operational planner.
He was indicted and charged by a federal grand jury for his role in the 7 August 1998 bombings of the U.S. embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. The attacks killed 224 civilians and wounded more than 5,000 others.
Al-Qaeda’s leadership is in a crisis mode over the loss, analysts report.

Killed in Iran by Israel

Al-Qaeda’s second in command, accused of masterminding the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Africa, was gunned down in the streets of Tehran by Israeli intelligence agents, reports the New York Times.
Egyptian born Abu Muhammad al-Masri was killed by two men on motorcycles in Tehran on August 7. It is believed Israel acted at the behest of the United States, which had been tracking al-Masri and other al-Qaeda “prisoners” living in Iran for years.
Much was made of Tehran’s “cooperation” in holding al-Qaeda operatives under “house arrest” by Iran’s apologists on the American left. In truth, Iran was giving them safe haven, allowing them to plot attacks on the U.S. while living in luxury. Al-Masri was said to have been living in an “upscale neighborhood” of Tehran with his daughter, widow of the son of Osama bin Laden. She died with her father on the streets of Tehran.
Iran seemed surprised a high ranking member of al-Qaeda was residing in their capitol and promptly rejected any such obviously ridiculous claims. No, really. See here: Aljazeera
