Democrats’ infighting over ‘defund the police’ movement heats up

| November 11, 2020

“Defund the Police,” the mantra of Black Lives Matter. What a remarkably stupid idea. This is the drum the Left was banging on for months, and the results were there for all to see. Violence. Riots. Burning. Death. To question why was was an act of racism, to be beaten down at times literally.
But suddenly it all stopped. Silence. A few weeks before the election not a peep of “Defund the Police” was heard. This was not an accident. Powerbrokers on the left decided this was not a good look for progressives, and it came to a halt.
Or has it?

AOC, the ‘Squad’ refuse to back down

Memo says movements such as Black Lives Matter ‘pushed Democrats to power’
By Peter Hasson

Some Democrats in Congress have tried to distance themselves from anti-police rhetoric following the party’s underperformance in last week’s elections, but left-wing activists and lawmakers are intent on pushing the party even further to the left.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn of South Carolina, Rep. Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania and Rep. Abigail Spanberger of Virginia are among the Democrats who’ve tried to distance themselves from socialism and the “defund the police” movement following the election. But the party’s activist base has said that won’t fly.

Justice Democrats, a far-left group aligned with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was one of four left-wing groups who signed a memo Tuesday urging Democrats to embrace Black Lives Matter, which has called for slashing funds to police departments across the country.

“The lesson to be learned from this election cannot and should not be to lean into racist resentment politics, or back away from the social movements that pushed Democrats to power,” read the memo, which was obtained by Politico.

“If Democrats cower from the national conversation sparked by the Black Lives Matter movement, then the only ones left owning this space will be the GOP,” the memo continued.

Black Lives Matter sent a letter on Nov. 7 to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris requesting a meeting “to begin the immediate work of Black liberation.”

The organization posted an update on Monday asking supporters to sign a petition in support of their request for a meeting.

Tellingly, the Biden transition team didn’t respond when asked if they will grant BLM a meeting. And Clyburn isn’t being altruistic in pushing back. When speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press” about the loss of his former aide Jaime Harrison to incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham in his home state, “Jaime Harrison started to plateau when ‘Defund the Police’ showed up with a caption on TV right across his head,” Clyburn told host Chuck Todd.

“That stuff hurt Jaime. And that’s why I spoke out against it a long time ago,” Clyburn added. “I’ve always said that these headlines can kill a political effort.”

No, Congressman Clyburn. These headlines killed people. And the Far Left doesn’t care. Read the entire article here: Fox News

I look forward to seeing them cannibalize each other for their causes.

BLM was founded on a lie and defund the police means exactly that. It is an organized effort (that likely includes 3rd state actors) to destabilize the US government and sow division.

Testify! And anybody with a half a brain can see that…oh…wait…

Guess you don’t need even half a brain to still be able to walk around, stealing oxygen.

Anybody still think that this is about a handful of career doped up criminals that managed to get themselves killed by an LEO somewhere. What was the body count of Black Lives snuffed out by Blacks, just this past weekend? Chicago 7 some of DRT, 41 WRT, 5 in another place, 4 there, 6 somewhere else…had 3 or more in my general AO.

Hack Stone

Here are a few numbers that Hack pulled off of Al Gore’s Amazing Internet.

Homicide/shooting counts for this past weekend:

1. Chicago – 7 dead, 41 shot. 683 homicides recorded so far in 2020.
2. Baltimore City ends the first full weekend of November with two people killed and two injured during a “ceasefire weekend.” This brings the city’s homicide total to 284, so far this year.
3. Three fatal shooting over the weekend in Milwaukee. Milwaukee has recorded 165 homicides reported from January 1 through November 5 2020.
4. At least one person was killed and six others were injured in shootings Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia, according to authorities.427 homicides so far in 2020.

Don’t worry, once the Democrats get back in the White House, and all of the cities firmly under control of the incorruptible Democrat leaders, homicides will magically drop to 0.

Commissar

No. It doesn’t mean “exactly that”.

The fact that you feel the need to exclaim it does makes it clear you know it doesn’t but just want to be obstinate.

Like a virtue signaling partisan.

Major Moonbat, are you going to whip out your Empirical Evidence to try and prove us wrong, or will you just erupt in another propaganda rant?

Penguinman000

Defund the police means reduce police funding and shift it to other services. The key part of that is taking funding from police departments. What is the number 1 cost of all departments? Personnel.

Or we could talk about all the folks calling for the abolishment of police. I’ll even leave out Seattle/Portland since you seem to insist those window lickers are separate from your cause.

Here’s an editorial in the NYT that calls for the abolishment of police. Bonus, she repeats the lie of police originating from slave patrols. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/06/12/opinion/sunday/floyd-abolish-defund-police.amp.html

There’s even a Wikipedia article on it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_abolition_movement

Even Vox admits abolishment of police exists. https://www.vox.com/21312191/police-reform-defunding-abolition-black-lives-matter-protests?_gl=1*1c8dkyo*

You can play all the word games you want. The vulnerable (minorities, women, children, elderly) will be stuck in the worst affected areas when departments payrolls get chopped. It isn’t games to them.

Who are battered spouses, abused children or victims of human trafficking going to be rescued by? Social workers? It’s not going to be cops in departments where vice and sex crimes have been chopped. Hope you don’t mind the extra drunk drivers on the road during the holidays because there is no budget for dedicated traffic enforcement. And I sure hope there aren’t any disasters that require OT. Because that isn’t going to be easy to fit in the budget.

Let me know how life in your “hood” works out when Oakland chops the PD budget even more.

Spew your slogans all you want. While you clearly don’t give 2 shits about the people this will affect the most (poor, minorities, women, children and old folks) some of us give a shit about the vulnerable.

SFC D

If it doesn’t mean “exactly that” it shouldn’t have been called “exactly that”, and the fact that Seattle, Portland, and Minneapolis have done “exactly that” is not helping your argument. You don’t get to redefine words to suit your argument. You’re a fraud.

Ret_25X

Yes, he is a fraud.

A very stupid fraud.

What one must remember about our dear dummissar is that he knows he is lying, and believes that his lies are superior to facts and truth because they advance the agenda of his dear leader and god on earth, Xi Jinping, the 4th coming of the deity, Mao.

He is nothing more than an NPC in a 90s video game.

penguinman000

Oh look, the LAPD is chopping the Animal Cruelty unit in addition to others. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/la-police-budget-cuts-sexual-assault-unit

How does it feel to support victimization of at risk humans and abuse of animals? Can’t wait to hear you spin this.

FuzeVT

To my Democratic friends – I don’t want this word to get out, but this is a really, really winning strategy. If you guys keep this up, I’m afraid no Republican will ever win again. Oh, woe is us! I can only hope that you moderate yourself on this issue and don’t keep going after this full bore!!

Deckie

Stupid people, stupid ideas.

It’s like they actually think they’re gonna succeed. The fractures continue!!! Keep it up, Dimocrats!!

LC

The Democrats often manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Even a simple change like, “Reform the Police” would’ve been light years beyond “Defund”. Then there’s the much better, “Black Lives Matter Too”, and surely countless others too. It’s a shame they’re so bad at messaging.

OldManchu

They are great at messaging. We hear them loud and clear. Are you hoping they would soften or mask their messaging?

11B-Mailclerk

Perhaps, if your party had been interested in such moderate things, it might have been. But by making alliance with the various Marxist orgs, you got “defund the police”, devastated businesses, and burning cities.

Note: “No fascist USA” means no USA. “defund the police” means no police.

Your side owns this, and the resultant consequences. There will be more, much more.

So, if you do not immediately purge this lunacy, good and hard, you will be consumed by it. They are not kidding or exaggerating. They mean it. Every bit of it. And you are next, if you haven’t read their foundational stuff.

Time is up.

LC

First, I’m not a Democrat. Second, you see Marxists in everything, much in the same way my crazy aunt sees ghosts everywhere. That is to say, you both have a very active imagination.

I’m quite sure that when the “Wall of Moms” and “Wall of Vets” joined the Portland protests in the wake of George Floyd’s death, for example, they weren’t giving secret Communist handshakes and quoting Mao to each other. They were, broadly speaking, protesting overly aggressive police tactics.

To suggest that anyone who finds some commonality with a group with ooh, Marxist origins, is somehow a Marxist by the commutative property of politics is to say that anyone who followed, say, that fake “Tennessee GOP” twitter back in the day, that turned out to be Russian-run, wasn’t a Republican interested in the GOP’s message.. they were secret Russian spies!.

See how useless that sort of hysteria is? I’m not worried at all about being ‘next’ on what you perceive to be the hit list of a small minority of crazies.

Poetrooper

You’re right, LC, the Wall of Moms and Wall of Vets weren’t “Marxist” groups–they were “useful idiot” groups cobbled together and exploited by Marxists in BLM.

Penguinman000

While all the occupants of the clown car causing the current unrest aren’t Marxist, members of BLM leadership do describe themselves as such.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2020/06/25/blm-co-founder-describes-herself-as-trained-marxist/amp/

USMC Steve

He is right. All those people were definitely stupid fools though. With an agenda, probably getting paid, like with Crowds on Demand. They are also WRONG. And whether or not you are a Marxist operative, carrying out their aims and objectives makes you a Marxist operative. Doesn’t matter if you know the secret handshake or carry the membership card.

Ret_25X

You know, LC, it people like you, not people like AOC that have led me to make sizeable investments in heavy metals and food stocks over the past year.

The true morons we have always had with us. But you represent the new dimension.

The mass of useful tools who cover for the true bearers of disaster and root for their victory.

Your lack of self awareness of the fact that these jerk offs will target YOU first is what is most frightening to me.

But, I am at peace with your self delusion and willing to simply smile wryly at your coming reckoning with the Maoists when they come to you for your final measure of wokeness.

11B-Mailclerk

Your rhetoric fails to mask the misdeeds and evil of your allies.

BLM, until very recently, rather proudly identified the “Marxist” bit. The SheissStaffel are pretty open about it, red flag in the logo, often hammer and sickle on the uniforms, etc.

So kinda off base to mock me for pointing them out, eh? And their associates also see it. You see it too.

Your side, not mine. Better purge that lunacy before it eats you. It always does.

Mason

They get scads of free air time from the MSM. Their messaging is on point. The Democrats also demand a lot of party loyalty. Every week you can see the usual retinue of Democrat politicians doing the rounds of the news shows and saying the exact same thing with the same inflection and phrasing. It’s really like the Stepford Wives with that side of the aisle sometimes.

Related:

Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty, who has pushed for police budget cuts, called 911 after a Lyft driver canceled her ride and asked her to get out of his car.

Lyft driver Richmond Frost told two Portland Police Department officers, who responded to the scene on Nov. 1, that Hardesty “became irate when he refused to roll the windows up,” according to a dispatch report,

Frost pulled into a Chevron gas station, canceled the ride and apparently asked her to leave the vehicle. Hardesty allegedly said she refused to exit the vehicle because “it was cold and she was a woman and alone.”

She called 911, telling the operator: “Well, I’ve got a Lyft driver that decided he would just drop me off at a filling station. Well, I’m not getting out of the car, in the dark, at a filling station, not happening. All because I asked him to put the window up. I’m not leaving.”

“I am not going to allow him to leave me on the side of the road. I paid for a ride and he says he canceled it, so I’m just going to sit here until he sends me another ride.”

source: https://www.foxnews.com/us/portland-city-commissioner-defund-police-called-911-lyft-driver

Lyft recommends that drivers keep their windows open to help with the spread of COVID in an enclosed space.

Hardesty’s excuse is full of contradictions. She believes in defunding the police, but calls them. She believes in equality, but is pulling out the gender card. She believes in “equality,” but believes that she has the right to determine the way someone else uses their property. Elites are like that.

More “don’t do as I do, do as I say” from elected, left leaning officials.

Deckie

Lars’ heroes.

Sapper3307

Looks like Nancy Pelosi got black out drunk in a tanning bed.

Penguinman000

Guess she felt safer with cops around. It’s almost as if she thinks there are bad people in the world who prey upon the weak (in this case, her).

5JC

She made it clear it was a tough decision as a person of color. Apparently waiting at the gas station for a ride was more dangerous than calling the police and risking being killed by them. After she defunds the police she won’t have to worry about it anymore.

She will be murdered at the gas station because there will be no police to give her kllers pause.

Mason

She sounds like a nice lady.

Andy11M

So BLM brought the Dems to power? And the Brown Shirts helped bring Hitler to power and we all know the fate of them once their usefulness was done.

HMCS(FMF) ret

The D’s hitched their wagon to that mule… they’ll go BALLS DEEP with it, especially with Pelosi, AOC, Schumer and others leading the march.

BruteLarson

I’ve heard a couple of pundits say that Schumer is scared shitless of AOC, and thinks she’s going to try to primary him.

Does she have that kind of support in NYC I wonder?

Boy, what a pair.

Mason

She has the Millenial support to be a real primary contender. She upset an establishment Democrat once.

She doesn’t have the support of any of the power players or Wall Street like Schumer does. He could easily lose a primary to her and run as an independent and win solidly in November.

BruteLarson

That’s right I forgot that.(That she’d taken out a long time incumbent). I forget a lot of shit anymore. Thanks.

USMC Steve

That only happened because he made the mistake of thinking that she could not get any votes due to being an idiot. He didn’t bother to campaign at all. And her commie socialist buddies turned out to vote when no one else did, so she is in now. Getting rid of an incumbent is harder than getting rid of nut fungus in the jungle. It also demonstrates how fucked up NYC is. They deserve every bit of the damage, stress, and misery they are experiencing now.

BruteLarson

It’s hard to fault him for thinking that I suppose. My ass looks like a fish’s mouth on a riverbank when I hear her talk.

NHSparky

In a single super liberal CD that might work, as she proved.

Statewide, even in a blue state like NY? Not likely.

5JC

Please let that be true. A big business socialist dem vs an authoritarian communist? The quotes alone would be priceless.

Mike Gunns

Minneapolis refunded their police and now are borrowing officers from the sheriff’s department and the transit police.

Defunded…jeez.

What we need is a Conservative political party joining the Republican, democrat and the lame stream media political party which would make 4 parties. I think that would be fair.

BruteLarson

Who is AOC and The Squad planning to use as their NKVD to round up Trump enablers, and anyone else with the temerity to doubt their primacy and prescience on the subject of EVERY thing?

They need to install a hair saloon in the House of Reps with a wet bar, a dance pole, and of course some fabulous stylist. Maybe that’d keep these fools occupied with more harmless things.

A Proud Infidel®™️

I truly think that they are as much of brainwashed harebrains as the Major Moonbat from UC Berzerkely who spouts and projects here on nearly a regular basis!

Mason

They think that their angry mobs won’t turn on them.

A Proud Infidel®™️

I’m all stocked up on Beer, Nachos and popcorn…

Green Thumb

Let them defend those cities.

Have at it.

Smaller cities could always hire a few more experienced cops looking to “get away” to a nice, less risky job before retirement.

Roh-Dog

Defund the police and it’ll be small groups of armed individuals acting ex-judicially, some civically minded, others only intent on robbing, extorting or straight killing you for any reason they see fit.
Sounds great!
I have this group of friends, we’ll do shifts at 8 hours a piece, 4 days a week, wear uniforms, take classes on how to write tickets on infractions and how to investigate crimes. Heck, we’ll even respond to calls for service from citizens in our assigned areas!
We’ll call ourselves the ‘Policy Enforcers’ or something. How about ‘Police’ for short?
I’m looking for investors…ground floor!

Penguinman000

It won’t get to that point IMHO. What’ll happen is what’s happening now. The people with means will flee. Businesses will flee. The tax base will collapse. Officers who have options will flee.

Other localities will take note and not follow suit.

The first entrants into defund the police movement will be stuck with brain drain, wealth drain and a populace so bitter it will make Portland look normal. It will take a couple of decades to unwind the damage. That’s the best my crystal ball will give me right now.

UpNorth

You pretty much nailed it, Penguinman.

11B-Mailclerk

You missed the part about federal mandates to do the same stupid crap everywhere else (to maintain “equity”) and the part about federal bailouts of self-destructing cities (because if they just had everyone else’s money, they can make their idiocy work).

Those screwed up cities will become shit-magnets for the kind of goons we do not want policing our society. They will also be run by folks who can afford to hire those goons.

Importing millions of folks from worse-off goon-topias will be how they mask the mass escape of sane folks to sane places.

USAF RET

I prefer “Goon Squad”

Berliner

Why didn’t she call a social worker to help her understand her lack of understanding?

Those who advocate defunding police need to personally experience reality.

The King County (Seattle) Executive wants to close 1 of 2 city jails… that being the one that has 2/3 of the capacity. His plan is to reduce incarceration. Yes they can always put them out on electronic monitoring, however recently it was revealed that the county only monitors criminals Mon-Fri 0800-1500. The judges did not know that.

As for the County Executive, he has a security detail that drives him to frequent after hours “meetings” at bars and wait outside to drive him home.

Berliner

My comment was directed at the thread on the Portland City Commissioner.
