New police chief disarms his officers
Chief Willie Halliburton of the Portland State University Police has been a cop for 32 years, at the university PD for 5, and for the last month has been chief of the agency. As one of his first official edicts, he’s disarming his officers.
That’s right, no more guns, but he assures that they will still be able to provide safety to the community. “It’s going to have its challenges, but it’s the right thing to do for Portland State University.” Yeah, OK.
For the inevitable situation that requires an armed response from real cops, they’re gonna call the Portland Police Bureau. Thankfully things have been quiet around Portland for the last 75 days or so, so those officers are all rested up and ready to respond.
Here’s the chief talking about it;
I’m speechless. This is truly Stunning and Brave. I can’t foresee how this could possibly go wrong.
The president of the university also announced “the creation of the Reimagine Campus Safety Committee. The committee’s work will be guided by our commitment to providing a campus environment that is free of racism, celebrates the diversity of our community, and honors our dedication to human dignity.”
The steering committee for this endeavor is made up of;
- Jose Coll (a Hispanic man) who is a Dean and Professor in the Social Work Department (and who coincidentally has as one of his areas of research expertise “military culture”),
- Ed Washington (a black man) who is Director of Community Outreach and Engagement,
- Vicki Reitenauer (a white woman), and
- Student body President Motutama Sipelii (a Samoan man).
For a school that believes they are systemically racist, there’s a lot of people who seem to have beaten the odds and succeeded in spite of how racist the school is.
Full announcement from the President of PSU here.
**Correction**
An earlier version of this post said that Jose Coll’s CV lacked military service. He does indeed, at the absolute bottom of his 16-page CV, say that he was a Recon Marine for four years.
In another article he says, “I joined the Marine Corps when I was 23 and served at Camp Pendleton, Calif, with the 1st Force Reconnaissance Company before fracturing my back and being medically discharged.”
A small community like Force Recon Marines will probably be able to verify his service, he was in from 1996-2000.
Do gun free zone’s work?
For criminals. Yes.
Gun-Free Zones have been the number one choice of mass-murdering cowards looking for a guaranteed mass of unarmed victims!
Guess where the goblins are going to go to raise hell and tear shit up?
Wasn’t “campus rape culture” the big thing not too long ago? And from there they went to…this.
Someone trying to apply logic would reach the conclusion that their goal here is a safer raping environment.
No guns?
I quit.
This will not end well.
Why bother with campus police? Might as well cut costs and go with some cheap rent-a-cops at this point.
Strongly worded signs in the common are discouraging unlawful behavior should be popping up soon.
Yeah – I’d burn all my sick leave while looking for another job someplace where people have sense.
PSU is in the same area of the city as the Federal Courthouse and has been a magnet for the BLM/Pantyfa/Anarchists for years.
Maybe it’s time the DJT order the military to wall up the city and let it become Bartertown?
Master Blaster ruled Bartertown.
Teddi Wheeler could be called “Soi Blaster”
BolshevikTown
Stop or we’ll say “Stop!” again!
“It’s going to have its challenges”
Why make challenges where there do not need to be any? Especially when the new challenge you make for your folks will be when risk of life and limb is at its highest (i.e. in a situation where you need a fricking gun).
Here are two very true facts about guns:
Guns stop gun violence. No way around that simple fact.
When you are unarmed by the government, you become dependent on the government for protection.
Of course, authorities who forbid self-defense usually refuse to be responsible for protecting people also.
“When you are unarmed by the government, you become dependent on the government for protection.”
A further axiom growing out of that is:
“When you depend on the government for protection, you are unprotected.”
So the PSU ‘cops’ just became Mall Security. Will they issued Segways too?
Cuck Haliburton errr Chief Hailburton is just some dude punching a clock and looking forward to retirement. Do everyone a favor and just file your papers now.
Parents need to vote with their pocketbooks and find another, safer institute of higher learning.
^ Precisely.
“Get woke – Go broke.”
Especially those with daughters…
Looks like that “steering committee” will drive the school straight into the ditch. And they have proved that the place is racist by not having a white male on the committee because…wait for it…he’s a white male! Portland seems to be on a good path to prove that there are as many dumbass ideas in Oregon as there are in Commiefornia.
The school has been a center of “wokeism” for years… it’s already in the ditch, how far it goes is left to little “committees” and “advisory boards” like the one that made this decision.
Criminal thought process before: “I can’t out run a bullet.”
Criminal thought process now: “I can out run that cop.”
Can they have Billy clubs?
I’m sorry, I assumed way too much about the term “Billy”.
Can they have Billie clubs?
Damn, I did it again. “Billie” is a trigger word.
Can they have “night sticks”?
Now that’s plainly racist so let’s try something different.
Can they carry Mace?
Well, that rhymes with race so forget that.
How about a Whiffle bat?
I spelt my email address wrong. Sorry Mason.
No harm, no foul. It just takes a couple minutes for us to see it and click “approve.”
I’m thinking they will maintain lawlessness and disorder via Dollar Tree Foam Pool Noodles.
Bust out the stress card.
How about keeping a pot of noodles handy just in case the magnet )university) you are protecting is invaded by armed peeps, then you can give them 20 lashes with a wet noodle if you can reach him/her before they get a bead on you. NOODLE POWER is safer than a handgun. And I’m not off my noodle using all my ribbon ink typing out this comment.I just Phuckin love it.
Maybe they should just bring back that dead pilot that used to live in Portland. Everything was peaceful when he was there, wasn’t it?
Yes, he was a real peacekeeper when he wasn’t assaulting judges in elevators.
Or crashing into potting soil displays in the parking lot of home improvement stores. Or running an unregistered tour bus company…
Fucking clown show.
Peace (utopia) at any cost.
Someones’ gonna pay, the innocent.
“Jose Coll (a Hispanic man) who is a Dean and Professor in the Social Work Department (and who coincidentally has as one of his areas of research expertise “military culture”, but his CV is lacking any service in the military),”
From the last page of his CV found at https://www.pdx.edu/ssw/profile/jose-coll
“United States Marine Corps, May 1996-May 2000
Reconnaissance Marine: supervised airborne operations and training; developed safety aircraft
procedures; maintained life support equipment; meritorious promotion for leadership and teamwork”
Read the same. This might get good, but knowing PDX if proven false they’ll excuse it away.
“One of us. One of us…”
Right you are. I missed that. I must have stopped reading around the fifth or sixth page of his publishings. Correcting the post now.
So, that guy claims he went from boot to airborne operations and training supervisor in four years? Am I the only one doubting that? And what the hell is a “safety aircraft?” In 30 years of civil and military aviation, I’ve never heard that term. His last part is probably closer to the truth. “Maintained life support equipment.” He was an ALSE (Aviation Life Support Equipment) tech. The rest appears to be nothing more than puffery.
He clearly claimed to be a Reconnaissance Marine.
Wow. I can only shake my head an laugh. This is like a skit from a really BAD variety show.
A Monty Python segment?
Nope. Monty Python would be funny.
NonoNO WAIT. I GOT IT, they just need to post signs all over the place saying “CRIME-FREE ZONE” and all of the goblins will just say “Gee whiz, we have to go someplace else to trash things, loot and wreck shit!”, there, problem solved! Group hug, anyone?
More like “Slime-Free Zone”.
Hack Stone fully supports this proposal. Armed law enforcement are not necessary when taking someone in custody who uttered speech that offended someone.
To add: You don’t have to be armed to call a coroner to pick up a body, or a social worker to provide “backup”.
Fuckers are going to learn the hard way – but shift the blame elsewhere.
Meh. Campus cops are pretty much just glorified security guards anyway.
Keep in mind that 20 – 30 years ago most campuses did not have armed police. They had (usually contracted) security guards for the routine matters (writing parking tickets and confiscating alcohol) and if there was any kind of serious violence the local police took over.
Not even sure why campuses need “police.” Campuses are almost always located in towns or cities that have their own police departments and replicating the administrative functions of a department for such a small area is just a waste of money anyway.
Take the campus “public safety” budget, slice it in half and give half to the local police to hire 4 – 5 uniformed officers to work at or near the university. Take the other half and hire security guards with radios to patrol the campus. If they see something going down, they get on the radio and call the real cops.
No need for the same small city to have two police chiefs, two administrative sections, two detective sections, two dispatchers, two record keeping departments, etc. That’s just a waste of taxpayer money.
You don’t need a sworn officer or a SWAT team to break up an unauthorized party at the Kappa Epsilon Gamma house. And if someone gets assaulted or raped, it’s better to have the investigation done by the city PD rather than a campus PD that has a bit of a conflict of interest when it comes to reporting crime stats. 😉
Who knows, maybe universities have found out that trying to get the city police to respond on a weekend night just means they wind up in the waiting call queue? Back in the day, I averaged 20-30 calls per 10 hour shift Thursday thru Sunday. If everyone is running call to call, the chances of breaking someone loose for a loud party aren’t good.
And, if you’re in “that” part of town, unarmed people aren’t going to venture anywhere near a large, rowdy crowd, or two groups taunting each other.
Of course like all ideas that are dangerous, stupid, unreasonable, and a threat to a civil society this one had to originate at a university.
Because they are “enlightened”…
