Covid-19 Update

| August 5, 2020

Stoopid Hoomans (snort!) We will feast on your carcasses!

Why are we having these panic attacks? Because someone told us to?

Oh, that’s simple: you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. The panic attacks generated by the news media over swine flu and bird flu in years past were at least as bad as they are now. Then ebola fever, an African disease transmitted to humans in Africa who eat bush meat such as bats, became a “thing” for the press to worry about. Then the undiscovered virus that was plaguing the southwestern regions was going to kill us all, but turned out to be a controllable virus, the Hanta virus carried by dormice and transmitted through their droppings. I don’t know how much press polio and diphtheria got in decades past, but I do know that Typhoid Mary Mallon was an asymptomatic carrier of typhoid fever because even though she was hired by families to clean and cook for them she never washed her hands before handling food.  Out of the 53 people she infected, only 3  of them died.

In regard to the current disease that is being hammered into our sensibilities, it is a serious disorder. It is a respirator bug, and yes, it can kill you if your immune system is weak. But look at how many have had it and survived, and the low numbers in the daily reports, numbers which are dropping.

Why is this current panic attack going on? Why is there so much attention given to it, and why are there so many arguments about its lethality?  It’s about control, nothing else, and how simple-mindedly people will fall right in line on their way to a slaughterhouse like a bunch of steers at a meat packing plant.

You don’t think so?

Statistics tell us otherwise. Real statistics, not gossip. The mortality rates are dropping. They have not yet reached the original projections, and it appears that those mortalities will NOT reach the projected levels.

Back in 2005, Ferguson claimed up to 200 million might die from the Avian flu, but in reality, only about 100 did. In March 2020, Ferguson was queried by The New York Times with the question: “what the best-case scenario was for the US during the COVID pandemic?”

“About 1.1 million deaths,” he said. So far, as of this writing (at 2020/08/04), 154,471 deaths have been recorded according to the CDC.

Ferguson’s model numbers overreached reality by about a factor of ten.

From the report:  Mounting evidence suggests the coronavirus is more common and less deadly than it first appeared.

The evidence comes from tests that detect antibodies to the coronavirus in a person’s blood rather than the virus itself.

The tests are finding large numbers of people in the US who were infected but never became seriously ill. And when these mild infections are included in coronavirus statistics, the virus appears less dangerous.

“The current best estimates for the infection fatality risk are between 0.5% and 1%,” says Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.

That’s in contrast with death rates of 5% or more based on calculations that included only people who got sick enough to be diagnosed with tests that detect the presence of virus in a person’s body. – article

That chart is more realistic than Fauci’s predictions and ditto Fergusns’s, and remarkably close to the same configuration as the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic. I don’t know what their sources are, and don’t intend to guess, but Ferguson’s estimate is far outside the Johns Hopkins report, as well as the CDC’s expectations.

USA Deaths from CV19 to date: 155,942 to date (8/4/2020)

Worldwide total mortalities: 695, 550 to date (8/4/2020)

Comparison between flu and CV19: death rate

COVID-19: There have been approximately 694,715 deaths reported worldwide. In the U.S, 155,478 people have died of COVID-19, as of August 4, 2020.

FLU: The World Health Organization estimates that 290,000 to 650,000 people die of flu-related causes every year worldwide.

In the U.S., from Oct. 1, 2019 – Apr. 4, 2020, the CDC estimates that 24,000 to 62,000 people died from the flu. (The CDC does not know the exact number because the flu is not a reportable disease in most parts of the U.S.) Get your flu shot when it comes up this fall, for Pete’s sake. If you go to the local VA FHCC or clinice, it’s free. And yes, when people get together in bunches and are carrying the bug without realizing it, they can transmit it to someone else, the same way the common cold is transmitted.

The conclusion one may personally draw depends on several things, including the capacity to not be intimidated by cheesy, overdone death rate estimates.  I am not dismissing the disease or its morbidity rate (not the same as mortality), and when a vaccine becomes available, it’s probably wisest to get the vaxx ASAP.

However, the panic-stricken attitude and the need to be on TV to spook more people is something that should be looked at. Fall is coming up before long. There won’t be a “boys of summer” game going on, unless somehow things get worked out. And schools, universities and even daycare centers are jonesing up for the seasonal gatherings.

The problem is that we’re all used to having our freedom to go where we want to, when we want to, but there are enough people panicked about it to make your errands-running difficult. Take that into consideration when you go shopping. Most stores will do curbside pickups for stuff and grocery stores don’t mind if you place your order ahead. At some point, this episode of “scare the Hoomans to death” will be over and we’ll be told by the presstwits that we have to be scared to death by some other lethal bug, that turns out to be nothing worse than a cold.

Remember the West Nile virus panics? Well, wear bug repellent on the trails and the mosquitoes will leave you alone. If your Avon lady still can get Skin So Soft for you, that knocks them out. I found that out a while back on an episode in a swamp in northern Wisconsin, while I was photographing wild irises.

Don’t let the buggers (and their bugs) get you down.

Mask use should correlate with positive outcomes, right? Across the board?

    • rgr769 says:

The numbers reported daily on Kung Flu cases and deaths are bogus. They are likely inflated by 20 to 30% with people counted as a case who aren’t positive or have never been tested. In addition, there is a $39K incentive for healthcare facilities to
claim deaths were caused by the virus. States have been caught reporting suicides, homicides, heart attacks, and drug deaths as ChiCom flu deaths. Indeed, the CDC guidelines, as admitted by Dr. Birx, allow for reporting anyone who dies and is positive or presumed positive as a Kung Flu death, regardless of the mechanism of death.

      • USAF (Ret) says:

You need to look at the positive. COVID has cured many different diseases. No one is dying except for COVID. End of SARC

You NAILED it when you commented:

As you shared, Ex, it is about CONTROL.

    Scary, isn’t it…

    Thank You for posting.

According to my sister, most of the county schools in her area are at least partially remote.

Her university is offering a mix, depending on teacher preference. She says she will be doing the hybrid version: her lectures will be remote/online, but the labs will be face-to-face.

I’m only going to wear a mask because whatever other people have is something I don’t want, period, whether it’s just the sniffles or the CV19 bug or the flu.

  4. OldManchu says:

    Lars ♥ masks!

See if I can beat my man Thunderstixx to the punch here. WE’RE DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMED, DOOOOOOOOOOMMED I TELL YOU!!!! WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!! Of something, eventually if not sooner. We have been DOOOOOOOOOOOMMEED to die and have been dying since the day we were born. You must be prepared to die at anytime cause it can happen at any time. You may not believe in a God but I’m here to tell you that the Devil exists, I know because I married at least 2 of his daughters.

My trip to the big city today entailed a visit to one of my all time favorite downhome eating places. The tables were spread way apart and the take side was doing a land office business. Folks were waiting for tables to come open so they could dine like they were having date night. The folks at the next table over and I struck up a conversation in re of the Chinesecommunist Originated Virus Infecting Disease of 2019 and agreed that it WAS a plot by the foreign and domestic enemies of our country to destroy us and our way of life. We were also in agreement that the demonrats are the domestic enemies of ours. Surprisingly enough, he is a high school teacher, and she is an administrator at the local State College. They are the proof that, yes Virginia, there is a God….and some of His Angels are in the Devil’s Workshop.

Tyrants like to play on our fears – real or manufactured.

Advertisers do it, too. There’s an ad running in one of the shooting magazines I get listing the National Debt with all its zeros, then offering to sell you silver.

If anything this is showing the (D)ictators for the tyrants they are. Hopefully enough folks pay attention.

On the other hand, it is being made clear that “you know not what another day will bring forth.” We have to remember that God is still in control.

  7. The Dead Man says:

So the case of Typhoid Mary’s kind of interesting and explicitly brought up in epidemiology. She wasn’t held accountable the first time she infected people. She was told, “You need to either stop preparing food or you need to get this surgery to fix the problem before you kill people.” and released. She then ducked out, assumed a new name and returned to cooking until she killed other people. At that point, she was well aware she could hurt people.

Regarding Ebola, the panic a few years ago with Ebola Zaire was both an overreaction and an underreacton. The people returning from the hot zones really should have been following a two week quarantine, particularly the nurse that had definitely been exposed and hung out in Chicago’s subways. It has a similar transmission method and asymptomatic carrier period as Covid, but instead of being .03-0.04, it’s 50% give or take a swing and it’s the strain that’s least likely to kill you.
tl;dr there is, “People should have quarantined, but the media definitely riled people up”

SARS 2 and MERS were both prone to being more dangerous and didn’t shut the world down. Though COVID’s response and panic did give me an idea what the response will be if my own personal nightmare scenario happens and DR/XDR Tuberculosis mutates enough to more easily spread to others.

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

People have forgotten what “normal” is for infectious disease.

Smallpox was a bigger problem for Washington than the Redcoats.

We dealt with seasonal -Polio- until the mid 1950s.

I had measels as a child. The vaccine was not yet being properly used. (Only one dose, way to early).

Typhus, Cholera, Tuberculosis, and others were frequent problems.

All of those make SARS-CoV-2 look like a minor annoyance.

And we carried on just fine without mass-cowering in homes.

The intent of isolation is fear and suppression of association. The purpose of those is political. The objective is destruction.

Look who shrieks loudest for them.

      • ninja says:

As a child, I had the measles and the mumps and the chicken pox.

Still have my smallpox scar when initially inoculated.

Ironically, when I joined the Army, the Army did the smallpox on me. I told them that I was not going to get a reaction to it, since I had already been inoculated.

        Did they believe me?

Nope. They tried THREE times with Zero results, even when I showed them my smallpox scar.

Finally had to have my parents mail me my shot records as an Army Brat to prove I was inoculated.

Fast forward after 9-11. Again, the Army tried to inoculate me with smallpox with Zero results. A bunch of us “oldies” tried to convince a Medical Team Chain of Command that we did not need it.

Did they believe us? After trying two times with zero results and reviewing old shot records, they quit trying.

      • The Dead Man says:

It’s why I’ve pushed so hard for basic epidemiology to become a mandatory class. Understanding the numbers game and spread does a lot to easing fears (Or amplifying them in some extreme cases).

It would have the added benefit of teaching people to wash their hands right so we see a decrease of fecal-oral transmissions. (Who am I kidding, there are some nasty mofos out there).

As far as the intent of the media. This is the most relevant they’ve been in decades. Hanlon’s Razor puts that as the base reason. Political agendas have pushed it well into absurdity though and it’s… why I’m with Sherman on the state of the news. Too stupid to get a real job, too cowardly to steal for a living.

        • OldManchu says:

“fecal-oral transmissions. (Who am I kidding, there are some nasty mofos out there).”

          Coffee Spew!!!!!

  8. AW1 Rod says:

According to Kekst…..a large firm that performs PR, strategic communications, market and audience research for Fortune 500 companies…..the average American believes that 9% of the US population have already died from COVID-19. That’s about 30 million people. Why are the sheeple lapping this shit up? Because the Leftmedia have been reporting CASE numbers. Every day, brand new CASE numbers…..NOT actual deaths vs. cases, which as of 29-Jul-2020 stood at 148,866 out of 4.4 million cases, or 0.045% of the US population.

    A far cry from 9%.

Their intent is to convince the sheeple that CASE numbers equal DEATH numbers, while overall hospitalization and mortality rates continue to drop. It’s a sick game the Leftmedia are playing, and it’ll continue right up until 03-Nov-2020.

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

Because Democrat politics is “unhappy people vote Democrat”.

      Think about the long-term implications.

Does anyone disagree? Why are consistently miserable shithole cities consistently Democrat? If the shitholes go Republican, is it usually a conservative or a RINO? Does the city become Republican, or basicly stay Democrat with a RINO driving?

      Anyone else seeing a pattern?

  9. Jarhead says:

Two comments…First off is the almighty buck and the opportunities to RIP OFF the public by justifying a totally unreasonable rise in costs. Back when gas prices hit $4 a gallon, the justification for most any product sold at Walmart or other stores was due to the increase in fuel costs. Yet after prices returned to near original, NOWHERE did we see return of the original prices of goods, including canned goods. Today we find most all building materials sold at the big boxes up as much as 75% (OSB included) as of early April. Justification is claimed to be a result of so many people out of work, so the factories and production facilities HAVE to raise their prices. Prime example…Harbor Freight had 9 MM disposable gloves on sale monthly for $9.95…prior to June 5 as advertised in their monthly sales circular. Today they are being sold at $17.95. Are we being played for suckers or what? Backa__swards seems more the appropriate if you think about it. Raise prices to an out of-sight-price, then due to lack of sales and affordability do you see more people out of work. Cart before the horse theory.
Secondly, IF there was a supposed accurate test for determining a positive diagnosis of COVID-19, why not place the scarlet letter “C” on the forehead of those infected, until they recover? Sounds ridiculous, but the idea should be able to be expanded on to FORCE those infected to wear a heavy duty mask when out in public. Point is, there must be some standard identifier for those who go out in public and lawfully DEMAND they wear a mask to protect the public from a known threat. BTW, how many people do we read being affected by the VIRUS wore masks out in public all the time? Final rant; who is profiting off all the problems resulting from the VIRUS (other than Dems hoping the public will blame Trump)just as several entities do when wars go on and on?

    • 11B-Mailclerk says:

You make an accusation, but didn’t state who. Name the name.

      • Jarhead says:

Glad to. If you referenced the word identifier, I meant a visible mark identifying anyone who is a carrier of the virus. Otherwise, the only other question is my question of WHOM is profiting off this, which I don’t have a clue. Last, if it was questioning who profits off wars, that’s easy enough to look back on and see what politicians had personal interests in the likes of which were used during wars. If that’s your question, forgetaboutit. Not wasting time explaining that which anyone can find with minimal research. This ain’t Lars, so don’t expect any Poodle Boi name-calling and other insults. Homie don’t play that game.

    Meanwhile, in a basement…

“Biden Stresses Importance of COVID-19 Testing, But Mum On Whether He’ll Get Tested”

“Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has continually stressed the importance of testing when it comes to fighting the coronavirus pandemic.”

“The former vice president laid out a plan for free testing nationwide, expanding testing sites, having federal safety regulators enforce testing at work, and assembling at least 100,000 contact tracers to find people exposed to the virus.”

“But it appears Biden himself has yet to be tested for the virus.”

“As of late July, Biden said that he so far has not been tested – defending himself by saying he is holding mostly virtual campaign events and members of his staff and the Secret Service are regularly tested.”
