Help out the Blue Star Moms

| April 28, 2009

Back in the land of my parents, Canandaigua, New York, in the Finger Lakes region, the Blue Star Mothers have apparently leased a Victorian style house from the federal government near the local VA hospital, according to my buddy, Laurie at Soldiers Angels NY. The Daily Messenger reports;

New York Chapter No. 1 of Blue Star Mothers of America signed a lease Tuesday with the federal government on a house at the VA Medical Center campus. The house will serve as a headquarters for the organization’s military support programs, project coordinator Ann Wido said.

The group will lease the home for free but will have to pay for repairs and utilities. It will serve as a home base for Blue Star Mothers, which serves soldiers and their families.

Laurie writes;

This will be a place of rest, relaxation, entertainment, gardening, homecomings, picnics, holiday dinners, in a home-like setting, for Veterans and active duty soldiers home on leave. They will also hold their “Gold Star Tea Ceremony” there where the families of our fallen heroes in western NY receive their Gold Star banners.

The Blue Star Mothers have to fix the old place up, though, so they’re asking for help.

Anyone wishing to help provide supplies may send gift cards in any amount from Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart.

Anyone in the local area who would like to see the full wish list of furniture, supplies and entertainment items, please leave me a comment and I will e-mail it to you.

There’s a great video at this news article along with more background.

So this payday, before you buy your beer, peel off a couple of bucks and send a gift card to my old neighborhood and help these fine ladies do stuff for the veterans they love.

Thanks, Jonn! It is a wonderful old house, and I can’t wait to see the results.

Has Rochester Vet seen this one yet?

LOL!

Got the old veterans communications pipeline going on this one! 🙂

Thanks for the heads-up on this! What a great cause by the Blue Star Mothers and I’ll be donating to the cause as well as publicizing it on RochesterConservative.

I’ve had to lay low lately, sorry I haven’t been able to post.

Thanks for posting, RV. Tried leaving you a comment over there but had some trouble with that.

Ok, finally found out about this and got a posting up at the NY GOE website with links to the ladies’ photos of the house and the great barbeque in the backyard.
