50 Marines headed to Benghazi

| September 12, 2012

A day late and a dollar short, a Marine “fast team” is headed to Libya to protect the pile of rubble that used to be our consulate there according to Fox News.

The official said a Marine “fast team” is being sent from the U.S. Naval base in Rota, Spain. They are not yet on the ground.

The move comes after President Obama ordered “all necessary resources” provided to Libya to support the security of U.S. personnel in the country.

In a statement, Obama also said he’s directed his administration to “increase security at our diplomatic posts around the globe.”
Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other American staff members were killed in the attacks Tuesday.

While I’m certain that most Americans are outraged by the pictures of Ambassador Stevens’ body being carried through the streets, I don’t think it’s particularly helpful to post it all over the internet. And, yes, we all want to talk tough about going over there and kicking some ass, but I don’t see lines of youngsters lining up at recruiting station. I’m also curious as to what 50 Marines coming from Spain will be able to do at this point, unless they’re going to do like the Marines did in Tripoli in 1804 during the Barbary War and fight through the streets.

If ever there was need for drone attacks, this one is ideal – Hellfire missiles to cover the evacuation.

They’re headed to Libya, but it sounds like a re-enactment of part of the Marine Hymn. According to CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/12/world/africa/libya-us-ambassador-killed-fallout/index.html) they’re going to Tripoli and they weren’t the ones providing security to the consolate.

@50: No disrespect intended; but who the fuck cares who the guy is making a stupid film?? The point is that these goat fuckers can’t get their goddam stupid mother fucking ignorant asses out of the 7th century and into the 21st century. That they think it’s perfectly acceptable to call for arrests and deaths to anyone who offends their rock god needs to be eliminated from modern existence. Yeah, I said it, fuck them up the ass with a fucking 1000 lb. snakeye. Every time they get their fan belts and jammies twisted up to the point that they so much as sneeze in our general direction; we level their fucking village. I want them dead. I want their families dead. I want their grandparents dead. I want their children dead. I want them to fear us. I want them to understand that the second they even look at one of us with the stink eye, they get their head blown off. These animals only understand one thing and that is violence. They prove it on a daily basis, yet the tenderhearts in this country only want to appease them and rag on us to not upset them. Fuck you. They don’t give a rats ass if they offend me, so why the fuck should I be mindful to not upset them? Is it because they are prone to violent outbursts? So what; we need to meet their violent outbursts with even more violence. Yeah, I know, it sounds a little too neanderthal for our resident intellectuals, but then again, intellectuals only talk about shit, they always get someone else to do their dirty work, because they are too much of pussies to do it themselves.

I’ll quit ranting now and return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Twist

Don’t sugar coat it OT tell us how your really feel.

Plus I agree with you 100%

DefendUSA

I’m equally pissed OT…You see, as per the President’s MO, he has constantly dissed America and her citizens if he beleives that reprimanding a political adversary will gain him traction with his voting block.

Now isn’t that the sickest mother fucking thing you’ll ever hear? No regard for the dead, no intel briefings at all since the 5th of September, no respect for those families and once again, no respect for the citizens or the promise to SUPPORT and DEFEND. He merely aided and abetted those black flag hanging basturd thugs.

I ask you left-minded people on this board–where the hell do you draw the line? Whose side are you on? As citizens of this Country, you should be condemning the PResident’s actions as well as those murdering Muslim freaks. If you cannot see that, get the hell out of here and go live where you believe oppression works.

Nik

@52 Yah. They can kill 100’s of Coptic Christians and nobody’s supposed to care (and the MSM barely reports it), but one 15 minute trailer nobody had ever even heard of until they started foaming at the mouth over it and they think they should be allowed to do whatever they want.

Fuck ’em, and everyone else who thinks like ’em.

“Yesterday, four Americans lost their lives after an attack on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya. Ambassador Chris Stevens and Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith were among those killed.” White House 12 Sept 2012

Language matters. Not four of our citizens, not four of our countrymen—just four Americans. And they lost their lives. They weren’t brutally murdered. They weren’t innocent victims of cold-blooded murder. They lost their lives, as if they perished in a boating accident. I could go on. It gets worse when HE talks about how Ambassador Stevens “built partnerships with Libyan revolutionaries….” Screw the politics. Screw the political correctness. Old Trooper @52 is on the money. He just articulated what many–if not all–of us are feeling.

This country of ours has no effective leadership. None. And all the silly ads from now until election day will not change that fact.

@defendUSA:

As one of the left-leaning people, it seems to me that the President was reprimanding the Romney camp for ill-advised attacks on the administration’s foreign policy and handling of these events based on incomplete information.

Should the President even bother to respond? That’s debatable. But I, as a left-leaning person, find more scorn with the people who started making this political (eg, Romney’s team) than the people who responded to it (Obama’s team).

That said, this is my one and only comment on this – these people were murdered, plain and simple, and this isn’t about politics for me, and shouldn’t be for either Obama or Romney. I just wanted to answer your question. Let’s instead focus on getting the fuckers responsible for this.

CI

@57 – I have no optimism that it will change on election day either. No matter who wins…this country has been without effective leadership for quite some time.

Hondo

Uh, Anonymous . . . Romney didn’t say anything about the events in Libya. His criticism of the Obama Administration was solely regarding it’s appeasement-tinged response to the Cairo US Embassy takeover. That administration response included a condemnation and implied apology for “the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims . . . .” That is a direct quote from the State Department regarding the Cairo Embassy takeover.

Last time I checked, the 1st Amendment included something called “freedom of speech”. And the last time I checked, even offensive speech that stops short of legal obscenity or “fighting words” is protected under the 1st Amendment. Other nations don’t have to like it – but they also don’t have a say in the matter.

Romney was correct to castigate the Obama Administration for that response. It is never appropriate for the US to apologize for being a free nation that allows personal freedoms such as Freedom of Speech. And that is precisely what the Obama Administration’s response to the Cairo Embassy takeover did – it apologized for the fact we enjoy freedom.

@59: I concur. Someone asked, on another forum, what would have been done in a past administration? Well, it took a while, but finally, a former President had had enough and sent in the F-111s, among other air assets (1986). That sounds about right to me.

Rand Paul is just stating that those responsible should be caught and turned over to the FBI! Bullshit, they should get a reminder 2000 lbs. at a time on how displeased we are with these actions.

My libertarian streak says we should roll up our tents and bring all our folks home right now, with the caveat to all those goat fuckers that if they even look in our direction, we will rock their world with a ferocity that would rival anything in the old testament. Then, we keep all our money, instead of giving it to them by the billions, and use it for our own country.

I had enough 11 years ago and I sure as hell have had enough now. It’s time to stop treating them with kid gloves and get rid of the PC bullshit and call a spade a spade.

Nik

Pesky freedom, always getting in the way of things.

I hate those Westboro Baptist Church shitsuckers. I loathe them so much it makes my teeth hate.

But while the filth they spew forth makes me furious, I also support the shitsuckers’ right to say it.

Anonymous

@ Hondo: If you truly want to debate that, I’m happy to. But not here. Pass along an e-mail address and we can argue about unimportant things until our hearts are content. The fact is, this shouldn’t be in any way political. It was an attack on fellow Americans, and I’m pretty damn sure we all stand against it.

Ex-PH2

Are you all getting things out of your system now? Good. This is the best place to vent steam and anger that fuels.

I’m truly angry about a lot of things, but the worst thing we can do is run away which is what the cowards who did this would do. Launch a missile strike, if that makes you happy. Take off and nuke the place from orbit — Whatever it takes — but do NOT — I repeat NOT — EVER run.

We’re Americans. We don’t run away.

I’m just as pissed off as the rest of you. More than that, I’m no longer surprised that Bo can’t step up to the plate and strongly protest these actions. I’d vote for Hillary before I’d ever vote for that asshole.

Romney’s speech may have been too ‘political’ for some, but he spoke his mind and didn’t waver, which is more than I can say for the Moron in Chief, who apparently has to get permission from his surrogate Mommy to make a speech that he should have made during the morning news.

These attacks may have been the work of a small group of militants (Salafists), but I’m sure there is much more to come and we’d better be prepared for it, emotionally and militarily or we are screwed three ways to Sunday.

Gallagher Fan

Hey Trooper, I got over $75 grand squirreled away, and I’d like to put my money where your mouth is. You assemble a team, including yourself, to go over to Libya and smoke the bastards who did this, and I’ll bankroll the entire op minus the cost of weapons, you’ll have to BYOW, but I can definitely finance transport, armor, and ammo. This country needs men with our steely resolve, who aren’t afraid to make the hard choices. I’d be right there with ya brother, but I’m just getting over Tommy John surgery and I don’t think I’ll be any help this time. Let me know if you’re game. Hell, I know you’re game, just tell where to start mailing the checks.

Ex-PH2

That should be ‘that it fuels’.

DefendUSA

Anon…As Hondo said,Romney was merely reacting to the repeated apologetics from the WH. Instead of admitting they were wrong to kowtow on the US Embassy’s standing by what was said before or after the killings, they went after Romney.
And, to boot- the MFM is compicit to using the word attack over and over again to get you to believe it was for some sort of gain on Romney’s part. I daresay Romney does not put the campaign ahead of our allies or the fellow Americans who are among the dead. I cannot say the same thing for Obama. He has proven time and again he is not worthy to hold the office of President because we do not know whose side he is on.
Anyway, as long you understand that this is not about politics but our freedoms, we’re good.

I say assign a company of Marines to guard every American embassy in the world with full “free fire” authority. Let more than 10 animals gather in front of the embassy, shoot them!

Anonymous

@69: Yes, at a time when I’m fucking pissed about Americans being killed like this, I’m worried about an anonymous persona being humiliated on an internet message board.

Or I just don’t think this should turn into a political discussion. Take your pick.

OWB

48 Lucky: Not exactly. And this was not an Embassy. From other reports, these Marines were sent in and arrived just about the time the wall was breached. (Sorry, cannot find the link to that story at the moment.)

From this story http://www.myfoxdc.com/story/19523339/marines-headed-to-libya-to-reinforce-security we have this:

“U.S. embassies, particularly in major countries and in unstable or less secure nations, usually have a resident contingent of Marine security guards. Early indications were that there were not at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi. A consulate is a branch office in major cities outside the capital. These guards work under the supervision of the senior diplomatic officer at an embassy.

The main role of Marine security guards is to protect classified national security documents, according to the website of the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, which administers the security guard mission from a Marine base in Virginia. Their secondary role is to protect U.S. citizens and U.S. government property in the event of an emergency.

The Marines began their security guard mission in 1948. They are trained at the Marine Security Guard School.”

Not gonna fact check the story at the moment, but it looks like embassy security has only been done by Marines since 1948. I’m not a Marine, but was thinking that they also did so much earlier in our hisotry and have been doing it continuously since about mid-20th century, with some variations depending upon the administration. Bet there’s a Marine or three out there that can correct my misconceptions!

Monster

the fact Obama is attending a fundraiser while dead american dipolats are being dragged through the streets need to be spread. Im also intrested in this story that he wasn’t getting daily intel briefsing all last week. use twitter and facebook to spread these stories!

@66. Let me help you on this Gal because you seem a tad confused. There’s this thing called the American government. It has three big pieces called branches. Among them is the executive branch, headed up by a chief executive who is commonly called the president. The president also serves as the commander in chief of the military. With me so far? Well, the president and commander in chief today is a fellow named Barack Hussein Obama but we’ll just call him, um, Asshole, for short. Well, Asshole alone gets to decide whether or not to strike militarily against a foreign nation, subject to certain constraints. (We’ll set those constraints aside, for present purposes, lest you get dizzy). Okay, so the point is that while many of us would very much like to put a claymore daisy chain around those little pukes in Egypt and Libya, it just doesn’t work that way. So, take your cute offer and go stand outside alone and think this over.

@72–Or I just don’t think this should turn into a political discussion. Take your pick.

Newsflash–it’s ALREADY political. This administration has been on record as apologizing for our response to 9/11, and it’s lack of leadership has been perceived as weakness in the Muslim world.

The message which came out of the Cairo embassy might not have been “officially” approved by the White House or State, but it’s pretty much in keeping with their message/tone since January 2009, so no, it’s really not that far off the mark from representing this administration’s policy. Matter of fact, it’s pretty much dead fucking on.

Shades of 1979 all over again. Only this time, Iran is on the verge of having nukes. Ain’t the world a crazy place?

The Dude

@52 If only you were that tough when you were of military age Old Trooper maybe you could have been more than a helicopter mechanic.. Keep your mouth shut and let the policy makers and real war fighters handle this, because you aren’t and have never been either.

Hondo

Anonymous: as others observed, the Obama Administration – not Romney – made this political. The did so by apologizing for a domestic exercise of freedom of speech. That single statement took a political stance that is simply unacceptable.

That was plain, absolutely, completely wrong. Freedom is more precious than any other thing we possess. Kudos of Romney for calling the Obama Administration out on selling our our basic freedoms, purchased with the blood of thousands.

Goldwater was right. Extremism in the defense of liberty is not a vice.

RaptorFire22

@79 who are “real war fighters” then? And what’s wrong with being a maintainer. If you served on the ground, you’d appreciate the work that happens to keep those birds in the air. I’m a weapons troop, I load and maintain weapons systems in the Air Force. Could you see how that might be important? I’m considered a maintainer.

Winter Soldier

I’m just happy that the Book of Mormon musical didn’t incite this much violence (or any – the church found it humorous). Imagine the LDS tearing apart movie theatres!

The Dude

@81 Maintainers are important but I don’t need to hear some old maintainer talk tough about killing all muslims when he never had the inclination to sign up for any of the armed conflicts we have had with muslim countries over the last 20 years.. It is easy to talk about killing from the safety of your living room..

Having opinions on something is one but somebody who couldnt be bothered to serve our country in a time of war has no right to call for other peoples kids to go die.

JP

“A large group did attack our embassies on American soil, kill Americans, drag our ambassador’s body through the streets, stay behind to celebrate, our administration did apologize. I am not a celebrity, I am not in politics. So to all those who disagree with me and call me a warmonger or stupid, I apologize, somehow I gave you the impression I give a shit what you think. ”

@79: Fuck you, pussy. You don’t have the market cornered on anything. Oh, wait, I forgot you’re supposedly some billy badass sooper trooper tough guy that single handedly won every battle in Iraq. I suggest you go back to giving your boyfriend a blowjob. That seems to be all you’re good at.

OWB

Perhaps we could demand that these fools explain what criteria they use to decide which “offenses” are worthy of comment and which are not? After all, there are at least a bazillion things said and done every day that are offensive to someone.

Freedom of speech is a protected right. Freedom from offense is not. That really is all you need to know.

They just keep honking me off more than I already was.

OWB

(Pssst, OT! Well done.)

Old Trooper

Also, Dudette, I was a weapons tech on attack helicopters, which means I dealt with everything from 20mm to TOW and Hellfire missiles, including dealing with HE warheads that were hang fires or 2.75″ mk84 folding fin rockets needed to be unloaded from the bird and have their proximity fuses taken out before they could be safely stored. Since you didn’t have the aptitude to deal with the technical aspects of serving and barely passed being able to pull a trigger without busting your ass, I suggest you just shut the fuck up and let the adults talk.

NHSparky

Ya gotta love it when Dude thinks he’s the shit, only to find he IS shit.

And I know Chief Kyle will probably never see this, but all I can say to his comment above is, “Fuckin A.”

RaptorFire22

OT, what was your MOS?

Old Trooper

@89: 68M

Old Trooper

@66: $75 large? Keep rolling with more than that. It would cost that to ship the arsenal over. You couldn’t afford the ammo that would be required, let alone the travel expenses and TDY costs, but thanks for the offer.

Although, I suspect you’re just making an attempt to be snarky and your surgical recovery wouldn’t be an impediment for you to join the fray if you really wanted to.

Eric

Just caught 5 minutes of O’Reilly where he had footage with audio of reporters “colluding” about how they were going to gang up on Romney in regards to his response about the embassy apologizing for our freedom of speech. Not surprising considering its the MSM though.

And with that, the MSM is making it a political issue even more than either candidate at this point, as they often do.

No matter what we say, whether we kiss their asses or tell them “fuck off” far too many around the world will find any excuse to visit violence on us. That’s the fact of it, whether the policy makers, MSM, etc., want to believe it or comprehend it.

Green Thumb

Lock and load, boys.

@Old Trooper, just a question: could an impact-only grenade be attached to a crossbow bolt and shot off without dropping too soon?

Our dear celebrity POTUS has mentally checked out – no time for Bibi Netanyahu over the Iran threat and apologizing to terrorists who committed acts of war invading U.S. compounds.
He needs to rest up for his appearance on David Letterman – priorities folks.

MSM grilling candidate Romney? I guess we know who the “real” President is. MSM won’t come out and say it, but Obama is a major flop – a celebrity President devoid of leadership and executive ability. Yes even MSM growing skeptical and weary of his act.

Helpful to what?

Dear Dude:

There’s a simple fact of warfare that has been constant since the first rock was thrown:

“Amateurs discuss tactics. Professionals discuss logistics.”

Doesn’t matter how badass you might be. If you don’t have anyone feeding you beans bandages and bullets, you are pretty much a worthless fuck with an expensive club.

Old Trooper

@83: You don’t know shit. First off, it doesn’t matter that the first GW happened after I served my time. Second, how do you know that I didn’t check to see if I could get back in at that time? Also, how do you know I didn’t try to get back in after 9/11? You don’t know, but that doesn’t stop you from running your worthless cockholster; does it? For the record, and Jonn knows this because we talked about it about 8 years ago; I did try to get back in after 9/11. Yeah, my kids were young, but I didn’t even flinch at the thought of getting in the fight. Unfortunately, they said I was too old, at the time, and when they finally relaxed the age limit, I couldn’t because of the injuries I sustained in a car accident by that time. So, fuck you very much ya little punk ass. You think I’m afraid of facing our enemies? Not hardly. When I was in, we had hot spots all over the world and I wasn’t afraid of going to any of them then, so why the fuck would I be afraid of it now? As you say, It’s easy to talk tough from a chair in your living room while on the internet and you seem to talk really tough all the time. For some reason you have had an overly ghey love affair/fixation on me (kinda like Richter did, except he finally fessed up to being a pussy when the time came to meet face to face instead of talking tough over the internet. Are you just as much of a pussy?) and find any reason you can think of to run down my service while attempting to pump yours up. Was your term of service really that fucked up that you’re trying to rebuild it in your own mind by telling others their service doesn’t compare to yours?
