Why We Must Tolerate Trolls

| June 24, 2012

I’m new to TAH, as both a contributor and a commenter. I must admit to a bit of surprise to discover that a website dedicated to presenting veterans’ and warrior’s views to an essentially veterans’ and warrior’s community has a few liberal trolls lurking ‘neath the bridge of communication that exists here.
Trolls are so truly like teenagers in that they are sure that they and only they know the truth about everything. Actually, I expect that many of the trolls who cruise through IAH are probably, in fact, teenagers or young college students, as their posts would seem to indicate. So stridently sure of themselves, they are quick to dismiss the collective, hard-earned through hard experience wisdom of the regular members and readers of this site. Never having been in combat, they feel comfortable telling those of us who have, how wrong we are.

I say that trolls are like teenagers, but that truth actually extends to the entire liberal world from which they venture out to pester and aggravate adherents to sites such as IAH. They are childlike in everything they post, constantly seeking to prove that those of us here with so much more actual world and life experience are just a bunch of clueless simpletons. Ah, does that remind you of the know-it-all teenagers in your own families?

Notice something else about the trolls who post here? They always do so with much passion, the fiery, know-it-all passion of youth. I can’t remember the comedian who made the trenchant observation that we should turn over the operations of all government to teenagers: “While they still know it all.” What a great line and an obvious consideration we must keep in mind when these drive-by adolescents cruise through IAH and shout their expletives out the partially opened windows of their closed minds. If you note the shouting of such a troll as Insipid, (who on earth would ever take such an idiotic username unless he really didn’t understand the meaning of the word) you can quickly discern that this boy really doesn’t have much life experience. Is he bright? Well, perhaps but in such a way that his intellect has been subjugated to his ideology, an unfortunate outcome for him.

I must confess that I am not immune to rising to the bait on occasion. When I should just sit back and smile at the ignorance being offered up by the likes of Insipid, I sometimes simply can’t resist the bugle call to action to defend either my own posting or the opinion of some other IAH regular. I suppose you could liken me to some old slavering dog layin’ on the porch who just can’t resist the temptation of chasing that coon that wanders into the yard. OK, Insipid, make something racist out of that.

I know, I know, it’s foolish in the extreme to respond to a teenager, but sometimes I just can’t help myself, as when Insipid calls me a racist. I would wager that I have far more interracial life experiences, both good and bad, than young Insipid ever imagined having. Therefore when he calls me a racist I want to sit down with him and explain to him the realities of racial co-existence in modern America. I don’t believe Insipid has a clue. His cluelessness makes me wonder if he’s not some little rich kid who’s never worked a day in his life. The real truth is, I’d like to sit down across from him and maybe slap a little sense into him.
Ah, that’s just wishful thinking…

Whatever, here’s a heads-up to Insipid and the other trolls at this site: I’m an old poor boy who worked his way up in the United States Army and life to my present position where spotting phonies isn’t too difficult.

Know what I would welcome her? An old, been there, done that type troll who in spite of living a life of believing in liberal foolishness still drinks the Kool-Aid and would like to contest the rest of us at TAH. Swatting young fools like Intrepid doesn’t really provide any intellectual challenge. Perhaps an old liberal fool might afford a more worthy opponent.
Nah, a liberal fool is a liberal fool and the grey ponytail is a giveaway.

Absolutely hysterical. Despite the fact that there is a grand total of ONE black elected official besides the President in an office higher than Congress person you’re all COMPLETLY sure that the President was elected entirely due to his race. As the song says “What a fool believes.” What study that has been done shows that his skin color COST him more votes than it gained him: http://campaignstops.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/06/09/how-racist-are-we-ask-google/ I know it’s not as good as your studies of “i know some guys”, or “I heard black troops say it” (like democrats before PBO had such a hard time winning the black vote) or “it was posted on a blog i cannot name”. Furthermore you did not answer my main argument that the term Affirmative Action, when applied to an accomplished black person is a racist statement of derision. It would get you fired if you applied that phrase towards a boss or co-worker, it will never be uttered by a Romney surrogate or an elected official of any import (though Joe Walsh did come close). The reason why the phrase will only be used on blogs and talk radio is because you all KNOW it’s racist. The one argument you did make is that Poetrooper cannot be racist because he has a black wife. Assuming this is true, being related to black people does not make an inherently racist comment suddenly become un-racist. If he had posted “Barrack Hussein Obama is just a lazy ass N**ger” would the existence of a black wife suddenly make that phrase non-racist? As far as the folks deriding me for the Lincoln-Obama comparison, like it or not they were both great speakers, they’re both great orators they were both lawyers and they both had the same two years of elected experience before assuming the Presidency. They’re both skilled writers. Both men were propelled into national prominence by a great speech, Lincoln his Cooper Union Speech and Obama his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention. And again, many of the insults directed at Lincoln during his day echo the insults you all are directing at… Read more »

“If he had posted “Barrack Hussein Obama is just a lazy ass N**ger” would the existence of a black wife suddenly make that phrase non-racist?”

Point being, That’s NOT what he posted. Now get back to flippin burgers old man.

insipid

True, that’s not what he posted. He did call him an “Affirmative Action President”. While not as loudly racist as that phrase, it is still a phrase racist enough to get you fired in the work-place it is still racist enough so that no elected official or Romney surrogate will state it. It is a racist phrase and the color of his wife does not suddenly turn the phrase non-racist.

I’m not sure why this matters, but I work discovery for a very large legal firm. Basically i collect records for big-pharma and big tobacco. I’m not rich, but i’m not poor either. I’m firmly in the middle class. So if you’re going to call me a name, call me a corporate lacky, at least it will be closer to the truth.

Not that all the class warfare isn’t amusing.

Redacted1775

I think everyone here agrees your claims of Russ being racist are bullshit. Thanks for playing, move along now.

insipid

I garuntee you that if we took that phrase outside this blog and polled it, the vast majority of people would find the phrase offensive. This blog does not constitute “everyone”. Again, the phrase is not suitable when used against a co-worker in the work place and in my work-place i garuntee you Human resources would, at the very least talk to you, if you applied that phrase towards the president in the work place. It will never be used by any Republican of any import nor will it be used by Romney or his surrogates despite the phrase existing on AM radio for years. None of you have refuted any of these statements, nor will you nor can you. All this is true because the phrase is racist.

Just Plain Jason

Yes total class warfare…bathsalts, burgerflipping, dick eating, whatever else.

insipid it it too bad that this is the most attention that you get in your poor pathetic life. You feel the need to keep coming here and arguing with people who have seen and done a lot of shit you couldn’t imagine. We don’t care if Obama is black, white or grey…he doesn’t represent us. We don’t like him and we don’t care. We judge people on the content of their character and that is what annoys you the most because you have a hard time figuring us out. It is easier to say we are some kind of “ist” and defend that point to your dying end. You call me a homophobe because I insult you without knowing anything about me personally. Your mind is simple and easy to figure out I really have no need to really engage you with anything other than petty insults…wait I think I’ve done this before…fuck it you are just another fucking idiot. Keep defending your empty suit president and his shit agenda because that’s all you got.

Redacted1775

Everyone HERE, instupid, key word, HERE. Pay attention. I’d venture a guess and say the majority of people outside this blog with a great deal of common sense would agree. Though you think otherwise since common sense seems to be a foreign concept to you.

ROS

What you fail to realize, Insipid, is that if BO received even ONE vote because he was (partially)black, that’s still contrary to the very intent of the election process and thus DOES make him an affirmative action president. We can go ’round and ’round all day about Sharpton, Joyner, Thaddeus Matthews and an infinite list of others who support BO simply because he’s black and at the end of the day you’d still be wrong.

And if Hilary had been elected? She had a huge base supporting her simply because she’s a woman. Would you have been calling people sexist for calling HER an AA POTUS? My guess is no, you would not. You’re an apologist with the same mentality as those who act as if they pity me for being indigenous and having my lands “stolen” regardless of the fact that I’m not quite 500 years old.

Seriously, the guilty conscience crap gets old.

insipid

Of course you engage me with insults. You certainly can’t do so with reason, Jason. No, you do not judge Obama by the content of his character, you judge him by his color and by your own partisan lens. You ignore his speaking ability, his debate skills, his background and decide that the only reason he was elected was because of his color.

Redacted, i understand that you were talking about this blog. Again, you will never hear the phrase “affirmative action president” uttered on the campaign trail, by a Romney surrogate or much of anywhere else but AM radio and right wing blogs. The phrase is even too racist for Fox News! If you truly had the vaulted common sense you claim, you’d realize that this is because it is a racist phrase.

And i’m here because i find your collective floundering defense of the undefensible hysterical.

ROS

I believe you mean his reading abilities, not speaking.

Ex-PH2

Speaking ability? He can’t make a speech unless it’s scripted. He is at best a poor extemporaneous speaker. Every sentence he utters is punctuated with “er”, “uh”, “and uh”, etc.
His debate skills are almost non-existent. For all Richard Nixon’s failings, he outshone this dubious incumbent by miles, as did Jack Kennedy and FDR. When Nixon and Kennedy met for their debates, most people thought Nixon had won by a wide margin.
Not once has this incumbent actually engaged an audience by looking directly at them. His viewpoint oscillates from side to side like a radar dish or a Cylon warrior.
Everything he has done in his speechifyin’ mode has been a sales pitch from day one of his first campaign, and he kept it up after he got elected, which posed the question, would he ever shut up and get to work?
Not once has this incumbent said anything that was memorable or important, nothing that stirs the emotions.
He was elected because he sold the product — himself — just like any other pitchman. He wore people down with it. Unfortunately, the reality is that the pitch was mostly hot air.
And on more thing — you’ve obviously got the horny hots for Obama, so just admit it, drop the ‘you’re a racist’ crap and crawl back into the file room where you belong, girl.

Just Plain Jason

I could engage you with reason and logic, but it wouldn’t do any good, because without any evidence you have already branded me a racist. You are an idealist…unfortunately for you are an idiot. I could argue with you until I am blue in the face and you would say racist. There simply isn’t any point. I could draw charts and graphs and point out how you are wrong and you would just wave your hands and come up with some leap of fantasy. It isn’t really worth it…you are a waste of time and flesh. I just can’t wait for the depression you are going to be in after thursday.

insipid

Ex-ph2- The silliness is without bounds. First off, do you think that Ronald Reagan’s speeches weren’t scripted? John F. Kennedy’s? FDR’s Abraham Lincoln’s? Or for the lower end of the spectrum George W. Bush’s and Mitt Romney’s? They all use scripted speeches but very few- Ronald Reagan, John F. Kennedy, Lincoln, FDR and Barack Obama have the ability to move people with them. By the Republicans own advertisements they ADMIT he’s a great speaker. The line used by both McCain and Romney is that yes, he is a great and eloquent speaker but they’re “just words”. So by his Republican oponents own admission he is a great speaker.

Furthermore the President uses vocalized pauses. However unlike George W. Bush the man is capable of articulating a complete sentence. You’re forgetting that the man kicked Hillary Clinton’s ass in debate after debate, he kicked John McCaine’s ass and he is going to kick Mitt Romney’s ass too.

Again, by the Republican’s own admission he is a great debator. What was the main topic in the Republican debates besides who was the most Reagany? It was who could stand “toe to toe” with Barack Obama in a debate. If the guy is such a light weight why would that even be a topic of discussion?

insipid

Nice to know you’re a liar as well as a racist, Russ. I suspected as much. Notice that you’re STILL not defending the Affirmative Action comment but engaging in the tired old “liberals are icky” standby.

As far as you are concerned Jason. I recall people saying that the Arizona law would definately be sustained based on oral arguments. They were all wrong. The ACA is Constitutional. If it is overturned it will be based on Politics and not the law. And the “depression” will be from the 33 million that will be denied health insurance and invited to an early death thanks to a politically charged Supreme Court which cares more about the bidding of the Tea Party then inforcing the law.

insipid

Ros, are you seriously that dumb? Really? If ONE person voted for him because he is black that somehow negates the MILLIONS that voted for him because he is the best man for the job? What about the folks that wouldn’t vote for him because he is black? Does that make John McCain the affirmative action candidate? There is certainly more evidence that people will avoid voting for a black person then there is evidence that people are scrambling to do so. There is the fact that there is only one State-wide elected official in the entire 50 states and there is the Harvard study. And there is also the fact that out of the 44 Presidents we’ve had only ONE has been black. So despite all this ACTUAL evidence that being black is a decided disadvantage when seeking office at the State and National level you’ll ignore all that in favor of “I know a guy, and i’m sure i heard it on blog somewhere and SAMUEL JACKSON! and (the lamest of all) if even one guy voted for him because he’s black, he’s an ‘affirmative action” President”

Your arguments are hysterical.

CI

@Insipid – “However unlike George W. Bush the man is capable of articulating a complete sentence.”

Is “um..uh…uh…um..” considered a complete sentence? Obama’s speechifying certainly isn’t any better than ‘nuc-u-lar’.

insipid

I’m sure the person who came up with this bumper sticker did NOT consider race when she voted in 2008:

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/03/dont-re-nig-in-2012-maker-of-racist-anti-obama-sticker-shuts-down-site/

And i’m sure NONE of the folks that bought that best selling sticker considered race when they voted either. Cause only nameless black soldiers and folks at blogs which no one will name consider race.

And i’m sure the guy who came up with this clever image didn’t consider race AT ALL when he voted:

http://filipspagnoli.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/obama-as-an-african-savage-with-a-bone-in-his-nose.jpg

And i’m sure none of THESE folks considered race:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/16/10-most-offensive-tea-par_n_187554.html#slide=20078

Nor these guys:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S38VioxnBaI

Must be nice living in a world where the ONLY racism is reverse racism and liberals are the only people that ever even consider race. That way you get to be the perpetual victims. Unfortunately, it’s not the real world, but it’s your world.

ROS

I’m happy to provide some humor in your otherwise worthless life, Insipid. I’ve given you names of those who’ve pushed his race as cause to vote for him, I and others have asked you questions that you’ve failed to answer while continuing to whine that we’ve not answered yours simply because our answers aren’t in line with your illogical meanderings, and you’ve managed to repeat every talking point you’ve been spoonfed to the point of nausea.

Congratulations, managed to both remain alive without a brain AND surpass all other trolls in the “I’ll never understand why God reminds you to breathe every morning” department. Go you!!

NHSparky

While not as loudly racist as that phrase, it is still a phrase racist enough to get you fired in the work-place it is still racist enough so that no elected official or Romney surrogate will state it.

Funny, I’ve used the phrase “affirmative action” many times at many different places of work/business, and I’ve yet to even have an HR-type raise their eyebrows at me.

So giving someone a preference based solely on the color of their skin and no other factor ISN’T racist? Seems to me when I was taking Sociology that was the EXACT definition of racism.

And if you want to go to the race card, which situation would you feel more comfortable in as the minority: a black person in a crowd of white people, or a white person in a crowd of black people. Bottom line–in which situation would the minority person actually BE safer based on actual facts, such as crime statistics, etc?

Let’s see you twist yourself into knots in that one.

NHSparky

Must be nice living in a world where the ONLY racism is reverse racism and liberals are the only people that ever even consider race.

And yet some of the most virulent racists of history and those I’ve ever known/met were in fact so-called “tolerant” liberals.

In case you’re not sure, Google such reich-wing items as Jones Beach, South Boston forced busing, etc. Better yet, do a little research on how your beloved Democrat hero FDR’s New Deal policies actually HARMED blacks, even to a further extent than they harmed whites.

Ex-PH2

Sparky, ROS, et al.: insipid is a GIRL, a file clerk and a wannabe with a horndog thing for Obama.

And in rebuttal, since I watched Nixon’s, Kennedy’s and Reagan’s live news conferences and their debates, I can say that all of them were so much more articulate than Obama is, there is no comparison. Period. In fact, none of the current candidates can hold a candle to Reagan, Kennedy, Nixon, or FDR.

Since shouts of ‘racism’ seem to be coming from only one corner of the file room, those that shout the loudest are the most guilty of it.

Go on, you smarmy little twit. You’re only pointing the finger at yourself.

Joe Williams

TSO and Jonn ,could you consider limiting insipid to 3 comments per subjects and 300 or less words per comment. Say the word “racist” enough times … and IT becomes racism.

Insipid’s own words classify him as a “racist”.

You don’t have to be a rocket surgeon and brain scientist to understand this concept.

Whenever I feel to urge to read or respond to trolls I go bang my head against the nearest wall… and the urge goes away.

Aside: I find it passing strange that we all appear to be using the same language yet so little actual communications take place. Mind you I’ve always kinda liked strange, but in my dotage my patience is lacking. YMMV

Joe Williams

Might one wish for a App where we can reach thru the puter and slap some sense or attention into some users.

Zero, no buts. I think you and most of the TAH menbers like the idea. the trolls are amusing to a certain.

UpNorth

“His viewpoint oscillates from side to side like a radar dish or a Cylon warrior”. Heh, nicely said, PH2.
Who would have thought that TAH would provide comedy far greater than anything on TV? This is comedy gold, “I’m not sure why this matters, but I work discovery for a very large legal firm”. After seeing the context of what it has posted, the disjointed thoughts, phrasing, construction, that “very large legal firm” has to be in deep trouble. More likely, insipid empties the bins at the shredder, or empties small waste containers into large waste containers.

NHSparky

You’re all racists!!! /insipid

Hondo

Up North: working “discovery”, eh? Well, someone has to make the copies of depositions taken and transcribed by others and mail/deliver/file those copies. In a large legal firm, there might be enough work of that sort to justify hiring someone to do that full-time. And I guess someone who never completed law school or couldn’t pass the bar exam might still be able to do that.

Hondo, I think the “very large” law firm is two partners, not one. And, with all the flaws in it’s posts we’ve seen, I don’t think anyone in ANY law firm would let it near a computer, word processor, typewriter or Scrabble board.

Well Guys n Dolls, Insipid does have a value. His/hers/its comeadic value. Has anyone noticed that all he talks about is comrade’s oratorical skills? He has not mentioned anything the comrade has accomplished. His “stimulous package” was a total failure, while wasting how many bazillions of $s? His contempt for the military is a proven fact. His socialist tendencies are legendary. Bowing to other world leaders?! Like I said, Insipid is always good for a laugh!?

Ex-PH2

Bill HR7110 was passed by the House of Representatives in September 2008, which was the Economic Recovery Act of 2008, introduced by Dave Obey (D-WI), but was not passed by the Senate. You can read the text of that bill at govtrack.us. It might have warded off the collapse that followed in March 2009, but I believe only temporarily. What caused the collapse was malfeasance and recklessness by banks. (Tacky, tacky, tacky!)

Just Plain Jason

Like I said it is sad that insipids only attention comes from us. I feel as though our little community would lose something if he/she/it would leave and never come back. I would feel as though a piece of color would be lost much like the town drunk or guy that wears the special hat. When we see insipid some will go why don’t we do something about him or why don’t we help him, but it is just best to just let inispid be insipid: blind, deaf, and dumb clamoring for attention. insipid doesn’t really add anything or really take anything away from our fine community…insipid is just our town idiot nothing more nothing less. I am a bit of a dickhead because rather than letting the town idiot be I feel the need to throw rocks at him/her/it when they are being a jackass.

Hondo

Ya gotta point, Just Plain Jason. Insipid and Joe are TAH’s village idiots. Perhaps that’s their primary purpose in the Great Scheme of Things. (smile)

Today was a really good day. I got to do some stuff and spend some time with some really good guys, so my mind is in a good place. Thoughts are a lot more clear. I talked to some guys at a local VFW about doing some stuff with their funeral honors and color guard. I need to get back out in the world.

Let’s review- who was right about the mandate being a tax and who was wrongy McWrongerson? Oh, that’s right Insipid was right, and Hondo was Mr. McWrongerson. And by the way, you thoroughly flunked your proof that SS is a “ponzi scheme” only proving one out of the 4 elements of fraud.

Hondo’s methods of Legal analysis in a nutshell:

1. Ignore what the bill ACTUALLY does and focus on wording, ignoring 200 years of legal precedence in ordere to make your case.
2. Only focus on the ONE element of the “crime” you can actually prove and hope that no one notices that you’re ignoring the other three.

The fact is that i could pass the bar if that’s what i wanted, but I have no desire to be a lawyer. I like doing what I’m doing. I come home to a pretty stress-free day and pretty much no one ever yells at me (probably why i come here, what’s life without any abuse?)
