Go Navy, BEAT ARMY!
Years ago, I was the CO of a Navy activity in Bad Aibling, Germany.
One day, just before the Army-Navy game, the Army base commander happened to mention that the commander of INSCOM, Keith Alexander, was going to be having an all officer call.
“Oh, sir, can I come to that?”
Well, of course, I broke out my “BEAT ARMY” sweatshirt in preparation for the event.
The day arrived. When I walked into the all hands club, I first met the base commander and CSM waiting for the general. I thought the colonel was going to bust an artery he was laughing so hard. The CSM wasn’t far behind.
I traipsed into the room where all the Army officers were waiting, chest puffed out, strutting around to make sure everyone saw it.
You could have heard a pin drop. Not…one…reaction.
It was great.
Anyway, the General Alexander showed up and he reacted with his usual good humor. He even had us take a picture together after the all officer call.
Not one Army officer, other than the colonel and the general, ever said a word to me about it.
The sad ending to this story was that Army beat Navy that year. In fact, it’s the last time that happened. The general even inscribed the photo thanking me for the win. Grrr.
Quick story….an old platoon Sgt. (SFC) I had in 67-68 a few thousand miles from here once commented about the Navy and “them damn little anchors they wear!” He continued, “I heard one time that they use them to pick “whore dvors” (hor d’oeuvres) when they go to all them fancy parties in those damn white suits.”
A little narrow-minded for sure but a helluva good soldier.
“You don’t want to make excuses,” Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo said Tuesday, “but it’s not the most ideal situation.” Oh yes it is. Navy (9-3) played last week, whacked by Temple. It ended Navy’s hopes of going to a major bowl and it cost them a quarterback and a slot back, neither of whom will play in tomorrow’s game. (Rubs hands together and laughs like mad scientist.) Navy’s starting QB has a slew of experience. He has watched every game’s start from the bench, both this year and last. Despite this unfortunate turn of events (bwahahahahaha), Navy remains favored to beat Army for the 15th (ouch) straight time. Army is no slouch this year. Its defense is ranked 14th in all of college football. Weather for Baltimore tomorrow is clear, blue skies and around 40 degrees. Kickoff is 3 p.m. GO ARMY. BEAT NAVY.
First, I’m sorry that you have DirecTV. I switched to DISH after 10 years of DirecTV and never regretted it. Second, I checked DirecTV programming for you. It’s on Channel 47 WIYE at 3. I thought the game was in Baltimore. It’s in Landover, MD–the Redskin’s home, not the Ravens.
2/17 I gave up on sat. TV years ago. It got so bad that if a storm was 5 miles away my reception would go out.
Maybe they have better equipment now.
GO ARMY!!!!
Dammit. I hate DirecTV. I knew damn well the game is to be played in Baltimore, but when I looked the game up on DireTV’s website, it listed Landsown as the site of the game. Wrong! It is Baltimore, the Ravens’ stadium.
Even though my son is a serving Infantry officer(O-2 promotable) with 1-5 CAV, my Dad was a Y2c in the PTO in WWII. We always rooted for Navy. Soo… GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!!
That sucks. It’s two against one, every year. Army vs. Navy/Marines. I suppose the Coast Guard is on Navy’s side, too. That’s three against one. We’ll have to toss in the other wet people, I suppose, the Merchant Marines. Now it’s four against one. The problem I see is that GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY/MARINES/COAST GUARD/MERCHANT MARINES doesn’t sound quite right. But there it is.
USAF can go undefeated, be ranked in the top 5, go to the national championship game, win big…and the zoomers-to-be still won’t matter when it comes to this game.
Got a cousin in the Navy, two more in the Army. It’s really a question of which of them I feel like fucking with. I think I’m gonna root for Navy this year. Either way, as long as they make a real game of it, I’m happy.

The refreshments menu will include the following:
Pie: apple, pumpkin, pecan, and French Silk with the little chocolate scroll thingies
Popcorn – hot, fresh from the popper, butter and your choice of popcorn salt flavors
Make your own sandwiches, but stay out of my fridge: cold cuts, cheeses of various sorts, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, other condiments, sandwich bread, ciabatta bread and other bakery products
Beverages: hot cider w/lemon or cinnamon, hot tea, hot coffee, hot cocoa
If you want beer, bring your own and leave it outside in the cold
Apples, oranges, cheeses of various sorts, crackers, summer sausage, chex mix, corn and potato chips
If you’re nice and pick up after yourselves, I might include pizzas. No promises.

Navy is going with a “throwback” uniform honoring the 1963 team (they had a QB that won the Heisman – Roger Staubach):
I was thinking of Lexington, Yorktown, Ranger, Enterprise, Farragut, Nimitz, Langley, Leyte, Coral Sea, Missouri, Arizona, Texas, Washington, West Virgnia, and my personal favorite, Old Ironsides – USS Constitution.
Before there were World Wars I and II and before there was a Spanish-American War, there was an Army/Navy football game. Months before that first game, Wyoming and Idaho became states, and Utah, New Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona were years away from joining them. One can guess that there were Civil War Veterans in attendance for that first contest. They would have been in their early 50s at the time, 29 November 1890. The game was played on The Plain. Half of Navy’s travel expense were paid by the 272 man Corps of Cadets. Each cadet contributed .52 cents, believe it or not.
It’s the Army/Navy game. There is nothing remotely likely it. GO ARMY. BEAT NAVY.
Big Time Like to these two comments. John Feinstein at Sports Illustrated wrote a great book about the Army Navy game titled “A Civil War”. Well written and I would recommend it, not that that counts for much.
For the record; while I know a few Military Academy graduates I am NOT a graduate of that institution, and since my work is associated with things nuclear I also know a whole bunch of Naval Academy grads. 🙂 My wife cringes when I start telling ring knocker jokes.
A high school friend of mine graduated from the USMA and he’d tell you he wasn’t a ringknocker, he always said those who did knock their rings around drove him nuts.

Freaking GO ARMY!!!!
There are three football games that I really care about:
Army-Navy, Grizzlies v Bobcats, and Cougars v Huskies. So far this year Im 0 for 2. Hopefully the Corps o’ Cadets will make at least make it one win!
My boss’ boss’ is a graduate of Canoe U. I have had to buy that SOB a lunch waaaaay too many times of the last few years; my small revenge is bringing him deep fried calamari. For a naval academy graduate and nuclear submariner he does have somewhat of a sense of humor.
Have a great weekend everyone! 🙂 Finally some snow here in the eastern Washington desert.
“So far this year Im 0 for 2. Hopefully the Corps o’ Cadets will make at least make it one win!”
I sincerely hope you can deal with the disappointment of 0 and 3.

Hey:
Over at the You Tube place, search Army Navy Spirit videos … there are many and very funny … Both sides kicking around the contest in good old military fashion … Enjoy!
With all due respect, now that I am hunkered down in my home bunker, with enough supplies to last till the next game, I can safely say that if Army wins the only possible explanation is that Navy felt the need to give Army a break.

No, no. You’re good. Congratulations. Enjoy it! An update on how the AD navy is taking it would be greatly appreciated. Anyone crying? Burning cookies? What?

Navy is supposed to win. The guys in Vegas have them on top and, as pointed out a couple of times here, Navy has won the last 14 meetings. Navy is 9-3 and has been good teams this year. I guess you could say that it’s in the bag for Navy. Maybe I won’t watch. I don’t want to see Army beaten bloody by those Navy brutes. So, yeah, it will take a lot of luck for Army just to be competitive. No way Army wins. None. (And I wrote all of that with a straight face.)

Great Spirit commercials! Best so far is cadets in hospital playing midshipman. Patient says he blacked out, was at Normandy looking for Ryan. Visitor points out that “Saving Private Ryan” is an Army movie and asks, “Did you have a vision of us baking cookies on a ship?” Patient says, “No, why?” and visitor says, “cause if this was combat, that’s what we’d be doing.”
Army had damn well better win this game after that one.

Just heard Mabus being interviewed at halftime on the radio. He was talking about the players from Navy and said, “they have to be great athletes, they have to be great students, they have to be good at military (pause) stuff…”
He also starred in a Navy Sp[irit commercial playing Battleship with a baby. It so sucked. Figures he’d want to be in the commercial. He looks like he might have been around for the first Army/Navy game…in 1890. Plus, the Navy says, in the commercial it is not surprising that Navy beats Army for the 15th straight year. Now, the Navy had better win after that!
Another turnover but, this time, the QB for Navy was not allowed to try to pass down field. The fat guy picked up a 1st down and the next thing you know, QB is in the end zone. He still very much sucks. ARMY 14 Navy 7.

ARMY recovers fumble and it’s ruled navy ball b/c some candyass in a booth somewhere said the ARMY player’s toe was out of bounds when he recovered it. ONLY way to tell would be to have a camera along the sideline. Was there one? No! ARMY stopped navy but the middies got a FG out of it.
Some guy came running on the field carrying a banner after a play and the CBS annnouncers (either Gary or Vern) made a comment that the guy was a “streaker”. Looked to me the guy had clothes on, so was a bit thrown off when he was identified as a “Streaker”. ?
Me? Heck, no. Just hap-hap-happy. I have been watching Army/Navy since forever and the last decade + have been very, very painful to be a fan of the Black Knights.
Congratulations to ARMY fans everywhere! To the navy: best of luck next year. And, hey, remember, it’s just a game. And as with every game, someone has to lose. God this feels good!
So, things have calmed down a little, but Damn, it’s been a good six weeks.
First da Cubs, then Trump, and now the Army win.
My Spec4 son calls and says Way to Go, Dad. His brother, the retired CSCS(SS) calls to whine and snivel a little. I tell him, tough titties, take two salt pills and drive on, so start preheating the oven as I’m expecting about six dozen chocolate chip cookies by the end of next week.
And so: (with all due respect to Katrina and the Waves)
I’m walking on sunshine (Wow)
I’m walking on sunshine (Wow)
I’m walking on sunshine (Wow)
The Donald being the Donald I guess. Prez Elect Trump gives faint praise to the Army-Navy game. Maybe he isn’t aware the service academies stringent entrance standards & service commitments don’t exactly attract triple A blue chip talent…they actually have true student-athletes & officers in training.

By the way, I tried to get the same base commander to make a bet with me.
If Army won, I would “escort” a mule down the main drag.
If Navy won, he would do the same, but with a goat.
He didn’t bite. Too bad, he would have won. No matter, it still would have been great.

BEAT NAVY! GO ARMY!
Navy has a pretty good Air Game,
4.4 Acres of America coming to YOUR house.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y92xIM7AyI4.
Our Ground game isn’t so bad either.
Even though my son is a serving Infantry officer(O-2 promotable) with 1-5 CAV, my Dad was a Y2c in the PTO in WWII. We always rooted for Navy. Soo… GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!!
In your case, I’d be tempted to root for Arvy or Namy.
?
I’d go for the ocean-going army. I think they’re Marines or something.
Marines gotta side with Navy on this. It’s in the rules.
So, get it done, Navy!
Funny how nobody cares what Air Force does in this equation…
Air Force is like dodge ball last to get picked, sorry Army you get last pick. GO NAVY
USAF can go undefeated, be ranked in the top 5, go to the national championship game, win big…and the zoomers-to-be still won’t matter when it comes to this game.
The Zoomies beat both Navy and Army this year…
Very cool video, but Navy’s “May the Fourteenth Be With You” last year was pretty damn funny.

Got a cousin in the Navy, two more in the Army. It’s really a question of which of them I feel like fucking with. I think I’m gonna root for Navy this year. Either way, as long as they make a real game of it, I’m happy.

Apples, oranges, cheeses of various sorts, crackers, summer sausage, chex mix, corn and potato chips

I was thinking of Lexington, Yorktown, Ranger, Enterprise, Farragut, Nimitz, Langley, Leyte, Coral Sea, Missouri, Arizona, Texas, Washington, West Virgnia, and my personal favorite, Old Ironsides – USS Constitution.

Oh crap, Army will finally beat Navy for 1st time since Shinseki era. Make Army Great again!
YES!!!
Mighty Black Knights 21
Lowly Swabbies 17
What streak?
Some guy came running on the field carrying a banner after a play and the CBS annnouncers (either Gary or Vern) made a comment that the guy was a “streaker”. Looked to me the guy had clothes on, so was a bit thrown off when he was identified as a “Streaker”. ?

GO ARMY! (Finally)♞♞♞♞
The important thing, as far as I’m concerned, is that it was a pretty good game. Besides, Navy had it for 14 years.
Yes!
2/17 Air Cav:
Are you a “Woo-Poo”? ?
Me? Heck, no. Just hap-hap-happy. I have been watching Army/Navy since forever and the last decade + have been very, very painful to be a fan of the Black Knights.
????

????
And another round for 2/17 Air Cav:
????
Thanks. You’re a peach–with all due respect.
?
Congratulations to ARMY fans everywhere! To the navy: best of luck next year. And, hey, remember, it’s just a game. And as with every game, someone has to lose. God this feels good!
The streak is over. ARMY-21 NAVY-17.
HOOAAHHH!!! Time for some tasty Calimari!????
Number 72 on Army’s offensive line ain’t gonna be passing tape anytime soon….
Booo. Crappy comment. Gotta be a Navy fan.
Don’t make me have to turn the LGOPs loose on you.
Or even worse the Francis video.
I messed up before I hit “post”.
I am Green Thumb.
I was Army.
And #72 ain’t gonna be passin’ tape anytime soon….
Oops, sorry Thumb. Didn’t know that was you.
And don’t it feel good!!
Like, Like, Like…?
The Donald being the Donald I guess. Prez Elect Trump gives faint praise to the Army-Navy game. Maybe he isn’t aware the service academies stringent entrance standards & service commitments don’t exactly attract triple A blue chip talent…they actually have true student-athletes & officers in training.

Maybe Gen. Mattis should sit him down and “explain” some things to ‘The Donald’. Knife hand optional.
