PFC Tariqka Sheffey and her indiscretion

| February 26, 2014

You guys have been blowing up my inbox with the picture of PFC Tariqka Sheffey while she was hiding (from who?) during Retreat. yeah, it was all over Facebook and Twitter. It made the Army Times. And she tells her audience (us) that she “doesn’t give a f***” what we think. She probably does now.

In my opinion, this is getting out of hand, not just the fools taking selfies of themselves while they’re misbehaving in uniform, but the whole “viral” thing, too. Here’s an example of how I chose to deal with a selfie dude;

Last year someone sent me a selfie of a troop up in Fort Drum who was wearing NCO rank (he was an E-Zero or something, all of those privates look the same to me) and jump wings and a tab or two and a CIB. The guy who sent me the picture said he served with PFC Selfie and none of that stuff in the picture was true. PFC Selfie hadn’t deployed yet.

So I looked him up on AKO, and next to his name was his squad leader’s name. Then I looked his squad leader up on AKO, got his email address and sent the picture to him along with a brief description of my duties here at TAH and left it up to the staff sergeant what should be done. A couple of weeks later, I got an email back from the squad leader thanking me along with a description of what had happened to the young soldier.

That was much more satisfying to me than a pile of traffic and comments calling for PFC Selfie’s head and/or ass. I imagined endless push ups, hours of police call, piles of hand-painted rocks, and hours of layout inspections. It made my little black heart sing. I’ll admit that I became part of the whole viral thing for a while, but now it seems like the troops aren’t learning from the tribulations of others and it’s time to put the chain of pain to work on them.

The viral thing is as out of control as the pictures themself. The Army and Military in general need to do a better job of teaching discipline to their troops, but I think as you stated it is best left to them to deal with the soldiers.
People sending death threats to some of the recent “viral stars” as well as other threats of violence/intimidation were way over the line. Even considering their behavior.

This is just stupid. Like what the hell do these individuals think before they do this stupid stuff, take pictures, post them on the net for the whole world to see, then brag about what they did, but this is why there are no perfect criminals. They just have to brag about what they did, then wonder why they were caught.

Waterboard the coont…. it *is* training after all.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

I amn’t sayin’ anytin’ yo’all on dis one … Ya no wad I’s talkin’ bout?

John is my hero. Such cruelty. MmmmmmMMMMmmmm. Delicious, delicious cruelty.

Well, the little dingbat didn’t do it once, …but twice.

Once is inexcusable.

Twice is someone begging for the Big Chicken Dinner.

Don’t even want to think what a third dunk in the stupid tank will be like.

Green Thumb

I will not point out the obvious here on several levels.

I also wonder if those nails and make-up are regulation.

These are many of the reasons I chose to stay in the Infantry.

No offense intended across the board, just a personal choice.

Beretverde

Now this is where you start with the cutbacks…PFC Tariqka Sheffey should be booted out before she starts poppin’ babies (more?), getting on profiles, and other crap that brings down the Army.

Atkron

Sounds to me like the MCPON, MCPOCG, SMA, SgtMajMC, and the CMSAF need to issue some directives to their various commands about the proper use social media by the enlisted personnel of the Armed Forces.

Don H

And John, I’d bet that his interactions with his squad leader probably made a more lasting impression on that young lad than all the e-mails in the world. Bwa-ha-ha . . .

Ex-PH2

Prison-style boot camp is more strict than what these little snots have had to face. They need a few weeks with no time off under the loving gaze of Gunny Ermey. And burial detail, where they DIG the graves but don’t accompany the caskets.

Just Plain Jason

I think the need of the viral spreading is a problem in and of itself. If you saw Pvt. Schmuckatelli back in the day you would straighten him out and let his CoC know, not spread it far and wide that Pvt. Schmuckatelli was doing something and that he needed to be thrown out. Virtual linch mobs are not the way to go. Hell I always thought it was a courtesy thing.

Company Commander is the approving authority for all E1-E4 promotions. Her commander doesn’t have to sign her paperwork to E4. When asked why…all he would have to do is show the instagram post.

The First Sergeant doesn’t have to recommend her for the E5 or E6 boards. When asked why…see above.

Pinto Nag

Her comment makes it very evident she knows what she did was wrong. Fry her.

That guy

Oh, hi there. Don’t mind me.
PFC Tariqka S. Sheffey. 59th QM Co., Fort Carson, CO. Company Commander’s phone number is 719-524-XXXX. 1SG phone # is 719-526-XXXX.

smoke-check

All the sudden we are against things going viral here? Isn’t that the purpose? To make the offender famous? Where would we be with finding out who the round Marine was if things didn’t go viral.

Reaperman

Now I suppose I have to confess that in the past I ‘may’ have timed my morning smoke break to happen shortly after colors on a ‘few’ occasions.

Lucky

I’m dealing with another viral selfie right now… MIANG Soldier, PVT, who got screencapped on his instagram smoking weed in uniform and bragging about it. Theres another picture, same PVT, in uniform, throwing up gang signs! Sent both, along with his name, to MIANG

BOILING MAD CPO

REAPERMAN: I believe the comment about the viral thing was meant for the idiots that post on-line their stupidy, not for those of use attempting to do the exposing. Am I wrong? BZ

BOILING MAD CPO

Shoot, I meant SMOKECHECK. Real sorry about the confusion REAPERMAN.

Pam Scharfenberg

How about a 10 minute briefing at Wing Commander’s Call on why what she did is wrong and why she needs to give a FFFF. Message approved ahead of time by supervisor, shirt, and commander, and in dress uniform, of course. Just a thought.

Valerie

Not that it matters but those calling for the Marine Corps and the Air Force to put out directives — this particular private belongs to the 59th Quartermaster Corps at Ft Carson and before dawn yesterday the commander of 4th ID had been notified and the investigation started. Just sayin….

Just Plain Jason

I know that no one here has ever ducked out on colors or shammed in their illustrious career.

Lucky, the guy you are talking about, yeah that one is already being investigated. The bottom feeders at USA WTF put that up as click bait. This is a trend just like sneaking up on soldiers out in town in uniform and taking pictures of them was a trend. People are out looking for questionable pics on instagram to post. I saw another page that was putting up pics of JROTC kids and making fun of them. There will come a time when someone’s pic will get stolen a caption will be made and it will turn out to be bullshit. It is too easy and it needs to stop.

Just Plain Jason

Sorry that wasn’t all addressed to you Lucky.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

How do you pronounce: Tariqka?

CWO5USMC

Here’s a bit of PME from an old guy who doesn’t do the social media crap….

Active Duty Military + Social Media = A Recipe for JackAssery….

I prefer my anonimity….as long as Hack Stone doesn’t out who I am…

SJ

I can remember when you stopped the car and got out/stayed in at sitting-attention. If I did that now I’d be run over/rear ended I guess. Geeze Off.

Nicki

Look, I’m fairly sure there are thousands upon thousands of folks who waited to exit the building until retreat has played, or ducked back in… that’s not the point. These idiots are abusing social media, posting public photos of themselves doing stupid things in uniform. I’m sure all of us have done so. Goofing around. It happens. The difference is when you duck out, take a selfie, boast about how you don’t give a fuck (also about how the taxpayer is paying you to be a worthless twat) and then cry about it when people get angry, claiming it was a mistake. Abuse of social media is, in fact, an offense punishable under UCMJ. And there is a definite difference between goofing off and actual abuse. I would submit this Sheffey doofus is the latter.

Just Plain Jason

CWO5,
Were I still in I would tell everyone that. It just isn’t worth the hassle sometimes. Hell I would tell soldiers to not post anything military related on their page. Not just for opsec, also because their are assholes who will look for that shit to use against you.

Ex-PH2

Those viral selfies, including those of Lindsey Stone (remember her and her middle finger salute?) are the ‘I dare you to squeal on me ’cause you can’t find me! Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah!

They don’t amount to much else. There is nothing wrong with things going viral. A lot of good stuff comes out of it, you know.

What is bad about it is that these snotty, spoiled brats are using it to double dog dare everyone to go after them, like some 5-year-old kid who ‘IS NOT TOUCHING’ his sister. Then the ‘double dog dare you’ is taken by LOTS of people and these self-same little snots get upset because someone found them and now – well, now they can lose their jobs over it.

These are the same kids who, a few years ago were in school learning that everything they do is just fine and they can do no wrong, instead of getting letter grades and being told they can defintely make mistakes.

And you wonder why Justin Bieber is an asshole? He’s one of them. And some of them wear military uniforms.

I can only say, if you’re going to act like an asshole, don’t publish it and don’t brag about it. And above all else, don’t challenge people through the internet to take you out for being an asshole, unless you are willing to accept the consequences.

Hulkamaniac

Everyone in the military has done something like that before.. If you are trying to act offended by this you need to get over yourself and quit being such a self righteous tool.

Nicki

@32 – what part of “everyone has goofed off, but don’t post your shit on the fucking internet and embarrass yourself and the military” was not clear to you?

Former 11B

23 You’re damn right I haven’t. I worked every second I wore the uniform and NEVER shammed out, participated in zonk PT, or ducked back inside if I heard a trumpet. Now that I’m out of the Army, I’ve used that same work ethic to propel myself to the top of a company which sells bridges. Perhaps I can interest you in one 😉

Ex-PH2

Really, Hulkamaniac? I never did anything like that when I was in the WAVES. I knew I’d get fried for it. The worst thing I ever did was forget to put my cover on when I got out of my car at NPC.

And you can quite sock puppeting for that snotty little twat you’re representing. Jam it sideways, schmuckster.

CWORet

@23JPJ “I know that no one here has ever ducked out on colors…”

You mean the old double-time-and-dive into the barracks room just before first note? Nope. Never even heard of such a thing…

Jon Not To Be Confused with Jonn

Hulk….I’ve seen people do this…but I think the main point is nobody tried to boast about it on the internet. Some people do this stuff, I’ve seen O3’s do this….doesn’t make it right, but they didn’t advertise it as such. She posted it on the internet for the world to judge….so noone can blame somebody for judging her action…
Just my opinion.

Just Plain Jason

We are supposed to be better than the civilian world and how many times have we found out a viral image was based on bullshit? So where does a soldier go to get their reputation back after their name has been dragged through the mud? I asked a couple of admins of a site what would they do if after an investigation everything turned out to be bullshit and they said they would apologize. Well as Red says, “I can’t do shit with I’m Sorry”. Jonn, Mark and the rest do a good job checking things out before they just pass shit along.

nbcguy54

The irony to me is almost too much. Back in the late 80’s, Ft. Carson is where one of my troops got slammed for not saluting the General’s car as it drove by. Life was interesting for myself and a lot of other senior NCOs for a while over that..

ajshannon

Unfortunately this is very common among the caliber of recruits we see these days.

David

I do remember a PFC who thought he had been passed over ‘way too long for E-4 – he very carefully cut two stripes and two rockers off CSM stripes and wore them (briefly) as a Command Private Major. He got his butt chewed… but also made E-4 soon thereafter. LONG before selfies, though.

Lucky

Just Plain Jason, I spoke with the MIANG, they had no idea

FatCircles0311

This is obvious the 3 hots and a cot example taught about during bootcamp.

I’m sure this is just the tip of her glorious career.

Jabatam

That’s why we send the articles to you Jonn, because you have AKO and we don’t…at least I don’t, which I find very annoying because prospective recruits can have at least limited AKO access but someone who did 12 honorable years and had an AKO account can’t be trusted with one apparently

Toasty Coastie

Interesting that the last three of these morons were girls…Do they think because they have a twat that they are above behaving honourably in uniform…When I was in it was a major suck being female in an all male service…you got treated harshly until you proved yourself. I can tell you from personal experience if I had ever done anything as disgraceful as these girls have my ass would have been kicked out but good…But then I actually have honour and pride and wouldn’t dream of disrespecting my uniform, my shipmates, my command or my service. She and the others deserve to have the book thrown at them, if for no other reason that they are very heartily undoing the respect all us females paid a high price to earn previously for them now. Fucking bitch.

Just Plain Jason

Lucky, or they wouldn’t talk to you about it?

Hack.Stone

CWO5 USMC, your secret identity is safe with me. I called your office last week, and they said you were TAD. They also said you would be out my way next month. Are you up for a beer summit? We can do a tour of the mansions on Wilson Lane in Bethesda.

Completely off topic, Guamanian Liberation Day is 17 days away. I already signed his checkout sheet, and I am sure the Barracks NCO will sign off on his room inspection.

Slick Goodllin

Like my old Sergeant Major used to say:

“Specialist Tentpeg…You’re soldiering BACKWARDS now!!”
