Weekend Open thread

| January 12, 2014

What You need an open thread? Ok, so here. I have two phonies already ginned up for Monday morning, mostly because real work is going to interfere tomorrow morning. Retirement can’t get approved soon enough.

Guys, you have GOT to see this newspaper “advertisement”!

It’ll definitely have you rolling on the floor!

The URL is:

Green Thumb

I read an article in the paper this morning on an individual found guilty of embezzling donations from an NPO.

I though of Phildo.

CWORet

“Panty Stuffers”?

Yep John, you got me rolling today… That’s just plain ass funny. I don’t care who you are.

Y’all gotta check his link out.

Marine_7002

Yeah, and did anyone else notice that that ad was under a line that touts the availability of fresh snapper at the store?

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

I have not been myself lately. Friday night I slipped and fell outside my front door of FOB Warwick (black ice), down two steps: torn left shoulder; sprained hip; gash on knee; and bruised knee.

Don’t mix Nyquil and Baileys with an inspection of the apparent black ice conditions out side your front door.

Annie

@1 John: Krusteaz taste great…just not in your panties!!!

2/17 Air Cav

@5. You couldn’t have been too relaxed or you wouldn’t have torn yourself up. Next time, drag yourself into the office and fall. Injuries like that should only happen on the job. Or are you one of those non-cheater types I heard about?
Seriously, though, I don’t think any less of you for being an idiot and testing the black ice. I have scars on my hands from determining whether the iron had cooled.

2/17 Air Cav

@6. No, I won’t say it. Somebody else might, but not me. But it is very, very tempting.

MCPO NYC USN Ret.

Great idea – Monday I am going to have the most historic slip and fall in office building history: tune in to FOX News for coverage.

2/17 Air Cav

I just read a story that covered something that I hadn’t previously pondered regarding loss of military retirement benefits. It may explain a lot in terms of certain sentences meted out. When a retirement-eligible service member is convicted of committing certain crimes, the punishment for which includes “death, dishonorable discharge, or dismissal from the service,” the spouse and children of the knucklehead lose out if the retirement is lost. Imagine IF that applied to, say, civilian government employees, not just for certain crimes going to treason under the Hiss Act, but for any serious crime. The hue and cry would be such that every single congresscritter would be running to the bill-drafting office to change it. I never looked into this matter before but, w/o benefit of examining the whole of it, I must say that it sucks. So, now, I’ll have to look into it.

Marine_7002

@5 Master Chief – might want to see if your local sporting goods store is having a sale on football protective equipment.

Just sayin’ 😀

OWB

@ #5: Sounds to me like you provided a very selfless service to everyone in the neighborhood by determining that conditions were such that everyone else should remain inside for the duration. Without regard for your own personal safety, and in spite of anecdotal evidence which others might have considered sufficient, you sacrificed your own comfort for the good of others. By showing absolutely that ambient temperatures and other conditions had become dangerous, you protected others in your community from exposing themselves to great harm.

The governor should give you a humanitarian award! Maybe even the Nobel Peace Prize.

AW1Ed

@5 Master Chief, instead of Nyquil and Bailey’s on your black ice inspection tour, pour some bourbon, honey, and a squeeze o’ lemon juice in a glass, and zap it in the microwave for 20 seconds or so. Sniff, sip, repeat as required. Then stay inside.
Won’t cure ya, but ya won’t care, and you will get some rest!

Here’s the URL for a report you guys will want to read.

http://www.ijreview.com/2014/01/107863-media-never-report-amazing-exchange-wounded-vet-iraqi-cab-driver/

It’s especially important for Iraq War Veterans, so they’ll understand that their efforts really are appreciated.

You may want to share this with others.

I sent it to a friend whose son, still serving as a recruiting NCO in the United States Marine Corps, was wounded on his third tour in Iraq.

Greetings to all from a long-time lurker in Hotlanta. I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate this blog. I am often cackling out loud at the comments about the posers. Worthless bunch of oxygen thieves. Outing these useless individuals is a cause that is near and dear to my civilian heart, as my father, brother and husband are legit military veterans. So thanks for all the important info, and most especially for the laughs. You guys rock!

OldSargeUSAR

@17 – Welcome… Jump in anytime.

Scarlett

@18 Thank you! If I come up with something particularly erudite I will share- not that THAT happens often! Still, I am marginally more literate than that skinny Cody Stermer fellow. I think I will go out now and buy some panty stuffers!

OWB

Am hoping that the requirements for posting remain pretty much as they now are because I seriously do enjoy posting! Were being erudite required, most of us would become lurkers.

clamsgotlegs

@14 Wow. Very Moving story. Thanks for posting it. Good to see the Kurds are doing well too.

clamsgotlegs

@5 Time to get some YakTraks or some other shoe ice grippers. They do work well on black ice. Just sayin’.

Thank you.

@15.

I hear you. Did you spot a Phildo in there as well?

@19: Scarlett, is your husband named Rhett? (sorry I couldn’t resist…:)

Green Thumb

I’m looking for a man named Phildo…..

Yesterday I was at a meeting with Congressman Rick Crawford (Arkansas R) and thanked him on all of our behalf for voting against the COLA decrease shit. Rick was an enlisted EOD tech with a tour or two down range.
I also learned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, enacted in 62, was only made retroactive to 58 for service on Taiwan. The shit was going down there since 55′ according to something I ran across so the next project is change the retro to 55′ to recognize those still alive who served.
Lastly, my wife complained during Retreat at Fort Bragg, no one stops their vehicle or renders honors to the colors. She almost caused an accident when she stopped at the sound of Retreat. I sent their PAO a query back in November only to be ignored. According to the Garrison Command Office, their CSM is addressing my question and would get back to be before Christmas. Maybe they meant Christmas 2014. Does anyone know why they ignore Retreat? Not on the 4 lane outside the gate, in the PX area, near the hospital and in general all over the post.

Eagle Keeper

I suspect more than a few of you have heard about the 1946 “Battle of Athens, Tennessee,” when a bunch of veterans successfully used military rifles and handguns — and several sticks of dynamite — against a corrupt mayor and his deputies who were trying to literally steal an election. If not, there are countless of articles about it online. (Notable: See Eleanor Roosevelt’s comments on the event. Not what you might expect from such like as her!)

At any rate, Hallmark Hall of Fame did a film in 1992 that was based on the event called “An American Story.” I just learned last night the the full movie is available free on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgspMlPP7bA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrR9Ye-Xj_0

Pretty well-done film, notwithstanding the liberties they took with the actual story. Not so much an ardent pro-gun film as a “do the right thing, even at great personal risk” film.

Green Thumb

@28.

No surprise there (PAO).

Keep up the good work.

NHSparky

Whelp, ice on the driveway/walkway got busted up and shoveled off, made easier by 50-degree temps and some rain yesterday. Now to wait for the runoff to freeze.

Also going to upstate VT next week, duration unknown. If anyone knows of anything worth seeing/doing in the St. Johnsbury area north to the Canadian border that is 1–cheap, 2–not time-intensive, post it here please.

clamsgotlegs

@29 Eagle Keeper –

Thanks for the tip. I had not heard of it. I’ll check your links out. Wiki has a facinating write up too.

Just An Old Dog

I just was pondering over how posers could attempt to correct their behavior. I posted a type of “corrective action plan for posers” in the TOPIX forum on the William Derek Church thread.
I think that in order to redeem themselves the POSER needs to do the following.
1.Submit a genuine written apology to the website or blog that exposes them that includes a statement of their actual service.
2. Take out a personal ad space in their local paper and state that they lied about their service.
3. If they were exposed by fraudulent claims made via the press or TV they need to write a personal apology to the reporter, Station or paper.
4. Write a written apology to any organization that they betrayed the trust of ( a Church, Veterans Group, Charity or Youth Group)
5.Last of all hand over all unearned uniforms, decorations and certificates to their local VFW, along with the same apology letter.

In return for this any group that exposes them would agree to:
1.Post the apology and lock the threads they are exposed on.

2.Scrub the thread to remove anything other than the initial story, images that show the Poser wearing the uniform and further claims on the thread made by the individual or sock puppets.

ConcernedCitizen

Two things to look out for:
“Graham-Cornyn Mental Health and Criminal Justice Reform Act” expands NICS in some form. Stockman’s up in arms even though the text isn’t out yet, I don’t think.
“Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014” also has Cornyn’s name on it, which does expand reciprocity to every state, but more importantly serves as a ‘fuck you’ to the post-Heller/McDonald weasels. Text also isn’t out yet.

I was looking for a symphony and sympathy … Not good ideas!

Geeze …

NH … If you are travelling to the People Republic of Vermont … Do not drink the local coo aid … If you no what I am talking aboot.

Hondo

MCPO:

1. Sympathy can be found in the dictionary. I’ll refrain from bracketing the specific location with checkpoint words, as I’m certain you can find it without them.

2. You do, however, have my condolences. I damn near did the same myself the other day, except mine almost resulted in a faceplant into a parked car vice falling down stairs. (I got lucky and managed to catch myself.)

Seriously, amigo: hope you heal quickly.

Scarlett

@26 Combat Historian- Lmao! His name is Mike. But it would be cool if he was Rhett. Oh, Cap’n Butler….

streetsweeper

Very well done, MCPO. Stick with OWB’s recommendations and don’t forget to file a voluntary worker accident report with your city gubermint. Threaten to sue ’em *massively*, win your case then disappear into thin air. Not recommended you move to Mexihole to live though…

Marine_7002

@35 Master Chief: how ’bout phony sympathy? Would that make you feel better?

Sorry, couldn’t resist…

streetsweeper

@ #33 Old Dog: Negative. Let the shit up so they can’t say they never did that in the future.

Other than mow, trim (meticously I will add) and rake the 1st sergeants lawn, scrape & repaint his yellow parking lines out front and then go play MP for the day or night, the only other details were go to bed, get up, go to chowhall, pretend I was interested and then again pretend I was interested.

Nurse were sizzling hawt(some, not all), combat medics were gold and you damn sure didn’t make low altitude, high speed passes on the base commanders daughter. BTDT.

Erudite? I thought that was a denture adhesive. Could have sworn it was.

“Meet Jack. He loves apples. Time was, he could never be certain that his dentures weren’t going to get stuck in a Red Delicious as he pulled it away from his mouth. Then Jack tried Erudite and stopped worrying. Erudite’s strong, secure bond will work for you, too. Get Erudite and get rid of the worry.”

Green Thumb

@41.

“dentures (taxpayer-funded, APL approved, of course) weren’t going to get stuck in a Red Delicious (Johnston) as he pulled it away from his mouth”.

Phildo’s Dilemma.

And who says GT is not well read?

#28 Club Manager:

I am the cranky greying retiree/DA civilian glaring at those who pull around my stopped vehicle while I am standing outside it on the side of the road rendering proper civilian honors during retreat.

Even most non-vet contractors who work in our building now understand and follow the rules. If I liked them I sent them the Robin Williams video where he’s on the USO stage when Retreat plays. If I didn’t like them I was…less pleasant.

OWB

@ #33: Nope. While all the first part sounds pretty good, and I will vote in favor of that, there should be absolutely NO agreement for the poster of truth to ever retract the truth. Nope. Cannot go along with that part of your proposal.

Marine_7002
Just An Old Dog

@40 &44
My post in #33 didn’t suggest retracting the post calling them out At all. I said that the original claim and any other sock puppet posts should be left up. The only “break”
that they would get would be the thread would be closed. At the blogs discretion any other posts simply calling the posers POS could be taken off.

Just An Old Dog

I responded to a friends query on face book and how I, and other Military Veterans can spot a phony.
I told them its like having a avid sports fan have someone walk up to them wearing rugby shorts, A knicks Jersey and an Atlanta Falcons cap and tell them they hit the winning home run for the Detroit Red Wings in the 1950 Boston Marathon.

ISLAMIC CENSORSHIP ALERT ! ! !

If you can still do so (it may have already been blocked), then please watch and/or download the video playlist, “ISLAMIC SEXUALITY: A SURVEY OF EVIL”, at this URL:

http://writesong.blogspot.com/2011/09/islamic-sexuality-survey-of-evil.html

Muslims have successfully intimidated the YOU TUBE web site into censoring and deleting each of the original four (04 videos that were posted by ANN BARNHARDT, and at this moment, only mirror copies of those videos can still be accessed, IF the Islamic supporting censors at the YOU TUBE web site haven’t already discovered and deleted them before you can get your own copy.

John Robert Mallernee

@29 – EAGLE KEEPER:

Thanks to your announcement, I have now posted that movie, “AN AMERICAN STORY”, at my own personal web site, “OUR ETERNAL STRUGGLE”.

Here is the URL:

@47 I likes it. Some folks ask permission for use of another’s stuff. Not me–but I am not ungrateful, so thanks!
