Ethan McCord: Karma’s a Bitch
Define a hero. Is it someone that stands up to the enemy? Someone that saves a life? Someone that’s caught on camera at just the right moment? A lot of things could be considered heroic that the military does, but for the most part “doing your job” is still just doing your job. Doing the bare minimum while in the military is not looked well upon within the community will often earn you open scorn. If you were to use said minimum as a stump, and go on about how hard your life is for some drooling hippie, you’ll pretty much be black balled for life. We all know people like that. The guy that tells a sob story, to make the ladies all love his “heroism.” Even “speaking truth to power” is somehow heroic if you’re on the right side of the issue (but if you’re, say telling the truth about Benghazi you’re a liar).
2nd Battalion 16th Infantry is a unit like any other. It’s ordered to do pretty much the same things every other light infantry battalion is ordered to do. For some reason however 2/16 has more than it’s fair share of people trying to cash in on the unit’s illustrious, and sometime infamous history. We all know about Ward Reilly, a faker that has gone around wearing a Ranger tab, he didn’t earn and saying he was a Ranger that refused service in Vietnam (which would have been hard seeing as the unit pulled out in 1970). He tried to cash in on 2/16’s name, as an anti-war douche first for VVAW and now for IVAW. Then there’s Ethan McCord. Now he’s said a lot of things, which have been proven to be flat out untrue (rotational fire for instance) and taken videos from soldiers that were misbehaving to blow incidents way out of proportion.
But the Anti-war crowd’s darling hero has a bit of a shady side. For one, according to a source, [TSO: Deleted. We don’t have a second source on this, and we’ll await more info. What remains is as attributed, and is what we believe to be true.] His first wife told me how he got the boot from the Navy Reserve, so in desperation he joined the Army. The only problem is apparently Army basic was too tough for him so he called back to see if his soon to be ex-wife he was in the process of divorcing would fake a red cross message that his son was deathly ill so he could go home. She hung up on him. Continuing his shady streak after Basic, he married his second wife the same month he divorced his first. Just to mess with her he, apparently, at one point he faked a PTSD episode while he was at the Ft Riley Warrior Transition Battalion. The “episode” was so bad that his wife was in a near panic calling the command, asking what she should do. The “episode” was resolved when he snapped out of it and said “just kidding.” His Med Board process was something of a joke, but the Army went through it anyway.
As for his life as a soldier, well its already been said by several of his former comrades that he sought to do the minimum. You really can’t blame a guy for being scared, but when you get to Iraq as an infantryman, it’s too late for second thoughts. The malingering and constant attempts to get out of going on patrol did not make him popular. His NCOs refused to send him to the board, and there was some butt hurt about that because he had assured his wife (at the time) that he’d soon be E-5. To my knowledge his only combat experience just so happened to be the same day some Apaches from 1/227 Aviation responded to Bravo 2/16’s troops in contact during Operation Ilaaj. It was a hot long day, that had Bravo in contact nearly all day. When all was said and done two Reuters photographers were dead, as well as the insurgents they were with, and a family that was on the battlefield for no apparent reason. McCord very shortly after went home on mid-tour leave and refused to come back. He probably would have been forgotten if not for a hissy fit thrown by Brianna Manning, and a man I like to call Ass-hat decided to release a video that was then two years old and call it “collateral murder.”
In an instant he became a media darling. He was all over RT, and Susan Sarandon called him up urging him to stay strong (whatever that means). He joined “Not your soldiers” a truly hideous group of douchebags who lie to school children, then got married again and had more kids (last count is at least five by three women). Then a documentary came out where he was the only featured speaker, and that documentary got nominated for an academy award. It got the 2/16 veterans royally pissed and they all called him out on it. I’m not sure if it was getting a tattoo of one of the company’s KIA’s that wasn’t even in his platoon (and who personally despised him) or that he said “collateral murder” happened every day in Iraq but the level of anger he incurred can not be understated. He then got delirious over how his former comrades were issuing “death threats” (really just angry veterans hoping Karma struck and he got hit by a bus) and the hippies just gobbled that up. He got WAY more attention than he should have, but thankfully his 15 minutes ended, and the veterans of 2/16, as well as 1/227 who’d had their names dragged through the mud went on to be the outstanding individuals they were.
Now apparently we’re not taking care of him. Apparently he can’t pay his bills and someone slashed the tires on his car. Apparently life sucks for him, and he’s a victim. Apparently Karma is a bitch. I really have no doubt that he pissed off one of his neighbors, or said something next level stupid that went too far. Hell I wouldn’t be surprised if he did it himself to further his “victim” status. I also have no doubt that this “victim” will find some sucker to bail him out. If you’re honestly thinking of loaning him a couple of bucks, here’s my advise: Don’t. He’s a manipulative little [expletive deleted] that you should not waste the time of day on. Also doubtless some [expletive deleted] will get it in his/her/it’s head that this “poor baby” really needs help that the cruel evil military wouldn’t give him.
In the end, I have no doubt that the children he fathered from previous marriages will be stiffed his time, effort, or finances. He never seems to have grasped the very basic concepts of Duty or Honor. He never made a plan for what he’d do once “his” war ended or once the spotlight on the video faded. He used everyone that ever gave a crap about him, and abandoned those that he didn’t consider useful. All that artful shucking and jiving, and where has he gotten? Nowhere. If he stays at the ass end of Kansas, friendless, and barely able to make ends meet, then he brought that on himself. All his manipulations, all his lies, and all the crocodile tears all the mud slinging he did to his former comrades all for what? 15 minutes in the spotlight. Pah-Thetic!

I’d give a dollar to a crack-head on the street before giving this guy a nickel.
I “hear” your anger and emotion, Doc….writing about any traitor is tough, especially when it’s on such a personal level.
Great writing!
Love it…now, about that Bus…
#2 – from your lips to God’s ears.
What a turd burglar. The only good thing about the short collective attention span of the American public is that shit birds like this are quickly forgotten.
Con artists are everywhere.
They show up after a severe storm and tell you they are insurance adjusters and will get your roof fixed for you, but send in contractors who do shoddy work AND don’t pay them, so you end up with a lien on your house. Happened here (not to me) with a large group of homeowners who had storm and flood damage from April. The state of Illinois has gone after them.
Some of them call themselves ‘travellers’, which is another name for some gypsy clans who shoplift, con people they see as vulnerable, and steal from them. And no offense meant to gypsies who don’t do that.
The con artist is always looking for a sucker. Looks like this one thought he found the Navy, but the Navy said ‘get out’, so he went to the Army and the Army didn’t like him, either.
Duty and honor are meaningless words to people like McCrud. They don’t give a crap who gets hurt as long as it isn’t them, but they do a lot of damage to other people’s lives.
So now McCrud is a deadbeat for twenty grand ++ in child support and whining about it? Who gives a crap? Let him rot in jail for it, if he manages to somehow get arrested. Are there ‘deadbeat dad’ laws in Kansas?
Some day, he’ll piss off the wrong person and it won’t just be slashed tires. Maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll get busted for dealing meth or some equally nasty stuff.
Hope for the best possible karmic reward for him, eh?
Liars, cheats, and weasels don’t stop being liars, cheats, and weasels just because their venue, status, or position changes. They are what they are wherever they are and those who are duped by them sooner or later learn the stark truth. Honor and integrity are meaningless. Fidelity and loyalty are alien concepts. Those who, innocently or for their own selfish purposes, put their trust in such people are ultimately victimized by them. Eventually, for the liars, cheats, and weasels, their little world collapses and when they look about in need, they find no one. The harm they did or attempted to do comes back on them in triplicate. Karma is indeed a bitch.
Sounds like karma is about to run over McChord’s dogma – and maybe him too. If it already hasn’t, of course.
Also sounds like it couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy. (smile)
Nicely done, Doc. Thanks for this.
FYI…2/16 is a mech infantry battalion with a very illustrious past. At one point, they were one of, if not the most, decorated unit in the Army. That may have changed since 2001 though. It’s a damn shame that a POS like this had to sully the deeds of more than a few great men
@9. Doc Bailey was among them and the 2/16th’s fine reputation is intact. The miserable slob who attempted to sully that reputation is all alone, covered in crap. Such is the fate of weasels. He was willingly used by Michael (Tugboat) Moore, Susan (See My Talent, Anywhere?) Sarandon, and Babs (Call Me a Dirty Slut Again) Manning and then–poof—his usefulness as quickly ended. But the unit? The good and honorable men of that unit? He didn’t touch them. He just royally and justifiably pissed them off. They can’t forget and they won’t forgive.
Karma karma karma karma karma chameleon…
Good! My Army career began in B and then A 2/16 back in the late 90’s. I have a lot of love for that unit
Despite being the darling of the anti-war crowd, at least he debunked the most idiotic points of the WikiLeaks narrative. He openly admitted that group of “civilians” and Reuters photographers were armed with AK47s and RPGs.
My wife collects child support from deadbeats like this ever day. You can’t believe the pathetic sob and I am a PTSD victim stories she hears. But she finds out they were kicked out usually for being woosies or malcontents and they are all over the VA for all the benefits they can get…as long as my wife doesn’t want to take any of it to pay their back child support. I served before the all volunteer force came into being. I applaud the men and woman who volunteer to serve today. But guys like McCord remind me of my days in when we had “deadhead grunts” and “lifer” NCO’s. The professional NCO’s got things done and most important took care of their men. They and the true “rather be somewhere else but I have a job to do, grunts” got the patrols done. The lifers just gathered a group of deadheads around them to hear their war stories and play pinochle all day. I would hope things are better in our forces today and from all accounts we have an armed force to be proud of and reckoned with. It is a shame guys like McCord get the liberal media behind them and paint a different picture of our armed forces with an ugly broad stroke brush. I am surprised Susan Sarandon hasn’t gone to Iraq or Afghanistan like Hanoi Jane.
C’mon guys, you know a hero is a guy who “comes out” to the media and immediately becomes a media darling and gets a call from POTUS. Any other definition is just wrong. 🙂
Sounds like a candidate for some “wall to wall” counselling from his former comrades in the 2/16. How about it guys? My wife worked child support in Florida for five years, and you should have heard the stories she would tell….deadbeat dads and moms.
#16, TF, hell yeah, I second that!! Does anyone know just where in Kansas he/it lives? I might know a few people in the LE Community there…
#16 TF. Thanks to your wife, and mine for the job they do. We are in Washington State. She gets guys with support orders from all over the country and a lot of vets I am sorry to say. I honestly could not do her job. Would not put up with the scum she has to try to catch and then get to pay for their kids, who usually are on welfare (our dime). My wife says if you think it is hard to get support out of a man, try getting out of a woman who owes. She has worked this for 25 years and I can’t be more proud of her for catching and reaming these deadbeats for all she can get from them. Again, tell your wife thanks for her service to the community. Have a good day TrapperFrank!
$20K after five kids? Sound like a lucky mofo to me if it’s only that much.
I have an RV that will work as a bus !!!
Anybody wanna go for a ride ???
This guy is a giant piece of shit liar, and I don’t necessarily believe his story of its beginning, but it can not be denied that the rotational fire technique known as a “death blossom” in my circle, didn’t exist. That is all.
How do you know he owes $20k in unpaid child support? It seems a little suspicious to me that his ex wife is telling you all of his dirty little secrets.
Sounds like fun, T-stixx, what is your RV’s beer capacity? (I’m thinking of the important supplies first!)
Hey Jax, Doc knows the jackass personally.
I understand that he knows him personally, but unless they were like the best of friends, I can’t imagine Ethan admitting that he owes 20 grand in back child support. As for the ex wive’s, I guess it’s possible. But to me, exes (especially when children are involved) can decide to behave in a variety of way. Option 1: they behave in a mature manner and refuse to badmouth the mother or father of their kids for fear their children will read or overhear them, which is not good for the children. Option 2: they badmouth the crap out of their ex. If she is badmouthing the crap out of her ex to someone she barely knows, it makes me wonder. I know Ethan and Doc Bailey were in the same unit, but I don’t get the impression that they were the best of friends. Unless perhaps they were the best of friends until all this went down. Anyhow, it’s one thing to badmouth him to your friends and family, but it’s another to badmouth him to anyone and everyone who will listen. It just makes me wonder what sort of person she is.
NHSParky its probably more than 20k I am betting. Probably pushing 35 to 40k I imagine. Deadbeat Dad bullshit says alot about a mans character.
That, and State Agencies don’t “Play Pattycake” on that matter anymore. Here in FL, one can get their Driver’s License suspended and jailed, it’s been said that it’s easier to get a DL reinstated after a DUI Conviction than it is for a Child Support Suspension. I hope he gets his feet held to the fire and has to spend some time being Bubba & Thor’s cellblock bitch!!
Everyone keeps saying nasty things about him being a deadbeat father and owing tons of child support. But i have yet to see any proof that he actually owes the money.
uhm, so proof?, I hear a lot of Doc Bailey making unfounded accusations, in fact most everything this guy writes is about Ethan McCord,. its a bit obsessive if you ask me, not to mention a little on the sad side. until I see some evidence to support these claims, they remain mindless dribble.
btw, your link about his inability to pay his bills is from 2010 its 2013? Yeah, this is quite ridiculous.
You want proof? Doc Bailey said it. There’s your proof. If he gave you the court case number or numbers, you would still find something to question. (Hey, maybe the poor guy was unemployed or injured and couldn’t work or….) If Doc Bailey wants to share what he knows about this creature, a see no lack of readers, including you–and these posts are usually full of tumbleweeds on Saturdays. (By the way, 28/29 seem to share a capitalization issue.)
When a fellow is hailed by Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, and Creepy Manning, no amount of disdain or, for that matter, innuendo, is too much for him. Try Code Pink. There’s more for you to like there.
[…] Ain’t Hell has a bunch of great posts up today but I like this one by Doc Bailey called “Ethan McCord: Karma’s a […]
Anonymous in Jax: We’ll take it down pending further review. It’s not defamatory if it was written in good faith, which it clearly was, and was based on the information supplied (which again, it is.) But my comfort level with it is pretty low right now.
Very well done, Doc. As for McCord, get up off your ass and pay that child support. Don’t piss any more neighbors off either…heh.
Doc Bailey saying it is plenty good enough for me. But, beyond that, the owners of this site get to make the call.
Turd.
Anyone that wants to look up the court case the file number is: 06-DM-003320 out of Sedgwick county KS.
There’s RUMINT of even MORE drama that I *tactfully* left out, but if even half the baby-mama-drama I’ve heard is true I’m amazed that he’s not in jail.
According to open source information the last payment he made was on the 10th of November 2011. Since then he has not paid the $494/month that he is mandated by the court to pay. I do not know of the custody issues from the children by his second wife, or the children that came before his marriage. When I have the documentation showing the amount he is delinquent I will post it.
As for McCord, the man has made his own bed, now he’s got to sleep in it. I just don’t want to wake up and hear he is (yet again) besmirching the men I counted as brothers.
Using Craig’s death to further his sob story is a personal affront to me. I was there. I was his medic, and I was utterly powerless to save him. I’d have let bygone be bygones after he had a great good laugh about my concern for him, but him using Craig to further his “hero” status was just too f’ing much.
If he pops his head up again with that “not your soldiers” BS, or if he somehow goes to another big celeb event, I hope that someone looks past his “hero” status and starts asking him the tough questions. Baring that, I’ll settle for ignominy
Sedgwick County, OK, that’s Wichita.
What’s the sound of Dogma being run over by Karma?
Chiiiiiild Supporrrt
2/17 Air Cav, all the proof I need is that Doc Bailey said it? So I suppose you believe everything you’re told huh?
Idiot. You may well need more. Is transference an issue for you elsewhere, or is it just here?
Lets say he is behind in child support. A lot of men are, bad and good. How does this change anything? How does this have any bearing on who he is? Moving forward, wheres the evidence for all of the other claims? I happen to know a sailor he served with in the Navy, (He was actually a Reserve on active orders btw) This sailor said your claim was unfounded, McCord recieved an award for Bluejacket of the year, (basically I guess like soldier of the year) right before McCord asked for a lateral transfer to the Army. Either way this person served for more than a few months. I dont know what Doc Bailey is attempting to do here, but its becoming more like reaching for anything and everything. Everyonr knows ex wifes will cause and say anything they can to disrupt the lives of their former spouses, Doc Bailey should understand this. Doc Bailey please move forward with life. Find a new mission. Youre beginning to discredit yourself.
@41. By you, no. By certain others, yes. But I tire of this thread. If your boy built 10 orphanages and fed a thousand starving kids, my reaction would be, “That’s great. But he’s still a POS.” Like that? Don’t like that? Approve? Disapprove? I don’t care. Adios.
“Built 10 orphanages and fed a thousand starving kids?” C’mon, 2/17 Air Cav. I hardly think the guy has that many kids for which he’s paying child support. (smile)
cravenless–I’m gonna throw the bullshit flag right there. It’s been a while since I was in, but I don’t recall a “Bluejacket of the Year” award, well, EVER.
LOL Bluejacket of the year. I guess thats why he said “basically, I guess”, WTF haha. Move on, the guy won Bluejacket of the year. Must be like the AF’s Bluecoat review for internet access
@Sparky, it seems to be a recent award, but it’s given on a per-station basis. It seems to be something awarded on by a board to E-3s and below.
http://www.public.navy.mil/surfor/lha5/Pages/SOY_SOQ.aspx
I go back to the 1960s and there was nothing like that going on. I knew guys who were A-J Squaredaway and they couldn’t get anything more than attaboys and 4.0s for appearance.
Do these guys even have their sixteens any more? Or has that gone by the wayside, too?
I dont even think other services enjoy rewarding E-3s and below. Nowadays everyone needs love I guess to show that NCOs and upper echelon cares for their privates, airmen, etc.
