The Trump administration’s 2025 National Security Strategy dropped last week, and if you are in Brussels or Berlin, you might want to pour yourself a stiff drink before reading it. This is not the usual diplomatic pablum about “shared values” and “transatlantic partnership.” This is an ultimatum dressed up as strategy, but will Europe listen?
The diagnosis is brutal but accurate: Continental Europe’s share of global GDP has collapsed from 25 per cent in 1990 to 14 per cent today. Cratering birthrates, migration-driven social fragmentation, and what the document calls “the real and more stark prospect of civilisational erasure” threaten to make the continent “unrecognisable in 20 years or less.” Washington’s message is simple: America will help defend a Europe that believes in itself, but not a civilisational hospice.

Here is the uncomfortable truth: If you want a seat at the table, you need to bring something to it. European leaders demand consultation while 78 per cent of their military purchases go to third countries. They talk about strategic autonomy while depending on American satellites, intelligence, logistics, and precision munitions. This is not a partnership of equals but a protectorate pretending to be an alliance.The strategy’s most controversial element is its explicit support for what it terms “patriotic European parties” and its criticism of “activities of the European Union and other transnational bodies that undermine political liberty and sovereignty.” Brussels will view this as intolerable interference.
Cue up the cry of “racist!” from a bunch of Europhiles who are unwilling to recognize the reality that their vision of Europe as a Socialist paradise is on the brink of failure, and by their own hand.
Further, they do not recognize, realize, or admit that Walz’s state of Minne-somali-ota is a leading indicator of what is coming to America.

In 1993 the EU became a super nation. Ursula van der Leyen is the president and Stavros Lambrinidis is the ambassador to the UN. Ambassador to the US is Jovita Neliupšienė, their embassy is located at 2175 K Street, N.W., Washington DC.
The unification briefly allowed the EU to have a GDP larger than the US. Three years later that had changed and they have never recovered. Despite having 16 new countries join the EU the population of the EU has has only risen by 25 million since 1993 and the GDP as a percent of global has shrunk dramatically.
The US has also declined significantly. Prior to the invasion of Iraq in 2002 the US share of world GDP was at a 33%, a post 1951 peak. By 2011 it was 22% and has not fully recovered. We are currently around 24% of world GDP.
While the EU rails at the US to support the Ukraine, they still buy 19% of their gas from Russia. They do buy considerably less than prior to the war; however in 2024 they made $24B in energy purchases from Russia.
Europe is going to have to quickly learn that the days of the USA saving your asses a la World Wars I and II are literally history. They had skin in the game then and now, the big difference now is that now they’re willingly surrendering their countries to the enemy within, politically and culturally. They’re failing at home, and the caliphate is far too willing to fill the leadership vacuum.
We’re seeing the precursors of this in the (so far faint rumblings) of talk of the US leaving NATO, and US and Russia talking peace all by their twosome lonesome. They’re not even including NATO or Ukraine in the talks.
