Congress to push to limit President Trump’s war powers related to Iran
There appears to be a bipartisan push in Congress to limit President Donald Trump’s authority to use military force in the Middle East. Senator Tim Kaine, Democrat from Virginia, has a track record of pushing resolutions to limit Trump’s ability to deploy the military for combat purposes. Kaine attempted to limit Trump’s war powers related to Venezuela. Now he is joined by Senator Rand Paul, Republican from Kentucky, in an effort to vote on a resolution this coming week.
From Fox News:
Kaine had already prepped his latest resolution, co-sponsored by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., for a vote in the Senate next week. He argued Saturday that the strikes, carried out without congressional approval, further underscore why a vote should be held immediately.
“These strikes are a colossal mistake, and I pray they do not cost our sons and daughters in uniform and at embassies throughout the region their lives,” Kaine said in a statement. “The Senate should immediately return to session and vote on my War Powers Resolution to block the use of U.S. forces in hostilities against Iran.”
In the House, Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Ro Khanna, D-Calif., are preparing their own war powers resolution for a vote.
Massie said in a post on X that he opposed “this war. This is not ‘America First.'”
“When Congress reconvenes, I will work with [Khanna] to force a congressional vote on war with Iran,” Massie said. “The Constitution requires Congress to vote, and your representative needs to be on record as opposing or supporting this war.”
The effort has the backing of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., who earlier in the week noted that the resolution would require “the president to come to Congress to make the case for using military force against Iran.”
The resolution’s fate in the House remains uncertain, given that a handful of House Democrats have broken with their party and backed the administration’s strikes in Iran.
Massie and Khanna’s push may also have the support of at least one more Republican in the lower chamber.
Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, appeared ready to back their war powers resolution after news of the strikes Saturday. He reiterated a position he made earlier in the week in a post on X.
“I have asked for a classified briefing defining the mission in Iran,” Davidson said. “In the absence of new information, I will support the War Powers Resolution in the House next week.
“War requires congressional authorization,” he continued. “There are actions short of war, but no case has been made.”

Perhaps they should just turn on the news and listen to the celebrations in iran. Then they should think about the simple fact that it has been iran, at war with us since the 80’s just through their proxies, who now no longer have a terrorist money source.
For the first time in a half century there is a very real chance for peace in the region. At least for a while. Hell even gaza might settle down once the other rabid goat rapers see there is no more weapons or money coming.
Not just Iran, everywhere there are Iranian refugees. People really don’t like living in a theocracy.
The US, under Trump, has finally done what everyone knows should have been done for decades, while other presidents hunkered down and kicked the can down the road (Obama’s JOCOA, anyone?).
Now that the deed is done, Dems will clap their hands over their ears so as to not hear the collective whisperings of “finally” or the cheering of Iranians which are drowned out by euro weenies disdainful remarks and the screech of leftists who have no understanding of reality. From that position, they will do their level best to snatch a failure out of thin air just to show Trump.
Exactly. ‘Cause it’s Trump, they’re upset.
Massie is a fucking turd. Backstabbing son of a bitch. Here’s hoping he loses his primary.
If the Pres. told the friends of iran demoRats the plans, iran would have been ready for the action with a shitload of them on the phone calling iran’s supreme leader..
Democrats hate America and love our enemies.
D-rats value illegal aliens over US citizens.
I haven’t kept up with many current events. In fact, I only heard about the ayatollah’s death when this video popped up yesterday: Hitler is informed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been killed
Iran has been a thorn in our side since just after I was born. To paraphrase one of the Left’s Muslim darlings, Ilhan Omar, Trump “did something” during his first term when he eliminated the Revolutionary Guard’s Salami-man. Now, in his second term, he’s opened the can of whup-ass that Iran’s needed for the past almost 50 years. Enough proxy wars with Iran funding and training terrorist organizations to attack US troops. Enough “tough talk” and sanctions. It’s time for change, and it seems that Iranians around the world are celebrating the chance to regain their former [relative] freedom under a non-Islamic government.
At this point, Congress’s authorization for war is a formality at best. US Presidents have a long history of sending troops and authorizing strikes against our enemies without gaining, or even seeking, approval from Congress.
My case for war against Iran is that they have been asking for this since 1979.
I was in the 70% or so that was opposed to this action, as good as we all knew it would feel. Now, you can’t unbreak that egg. Now we are chest deep in the stream we need to get all the way across. Pulling the plug now makes no sense. I say let the thirty days ride out and then assess. If you need to pull the plug do it then. It isn’t like Iran is going to stop doing bad things at this point if Trump gets punished for calling them to account for decades of bad behavior all over the planet.
If Congress was doing their job they would have known about this six months ago. But no, they are laser focused on all the wrong things as usual. If the want to limit the presidential war powers the time to do that is before you get into the war, not in the middle.
“Congress got involved and fixed everything”; said nobody ever. If Congress wants to do something useful then fund a new SM3 or Stinger Missile factory. Between current ops and the Ukraine War you can’t really have enough of those things these days.
Keep praying for and supporting our troops. We have US three KIAs and seven WIAs and things will probably get worse.
We have far more KIA and WIA than your count. The counting started in 1979. Adjust your numbers accordingly.
#45-47does something no other Presidents had the balls to do, and all the usual suspects come out from under their rocks to whine and cry foul. Rand Paul is NEVER going to get over Trump calling him ugly. DJT hammered ‘little Marco’ and he shook it off to become one the greatest SECSTATEs ever.
I disagree, Rand Paul is remarkably consistent with his political views. He is a very strict non-interventionist. You may disagree with his views but I seriously doubt he cares at all about Trump making fun of his hair.
The dissenting members of Congress should immediately
call for a meeting in Iran. Let them assemble on site and get
a close look at what is going on. I want my reps to be well
informed instead of just making shit up.
Give them all flak vests.
There are 2 valid AUMF approvals out there that he can use (like other presidents have).
Screw the dems.
Lars tears.
Looks like the Austin Bar shooting last night may have been a terrorist. Police responded in under a minute but the shooter was already dead on arrival.
Terrorist, or another tranny going postal?
According to Ted Cruz on FTN this morning potentially a terrorist, which he said the FBI is investigating.

Remember when 0bama said “If Congress doesn’t, I have a phone and a pen, and I will”!
90% of Congress and the senate are jokes. Just not funny.
