Andrew Nelson; phony frogman

| May 13, 2017

The folks at Military Phonies send us their research on this 90-year-old World War II veteran, Andrew Nelson. He’s been telling people that he was a frogman for at least 18 years. Here he tells the Hartford Courant in 1999;

And the Post and Courier in 2005;

He claims that he earned a Bronze Star for Valor and a Purple Heart;

Well, he was a veteran of World War II and despite his claims that he was in the Korean War, his service during that war was limited to working in Maryland.

During WWII, he was assigned to the USS Kishwaukee, a fuel ship that supported the Okinawa and Philippine campaigns, but probably far from the battle given their cargo. He was a yeoman (a clerk);

He was finally discharged in 1952. In 1954, he wrote to the Navy asking what awards he earned for the Korean War;

They responded that he’d earned the NDSM.

What. A. Colossal. Jerk.

He’s on a WWII tanker ship, which was as nasty a target as you can get, and that isn’t enough?

😛 😛 😛

M48DAT

Isn’t that kinda like the PH and SS?

sj

They don’t just give the NDSM to anyone. So there’s that. I wouldn’t wanted to have been on a tanker in the Pacific then.

Eden

He lied to get into the Navy in the first place, so lying about his awards isn’t anything new to him.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Another one of those “sekrit nekkid combat swimmers”? ANDREW NELSON couldn’t be happy with being one of the “Greatest Generation” for just doing his duty, but had to go balls deep with his STOLEN VALOR media whoring stories.

Sad… just sad.

The Other Whitey

Grandpa was a Sailor in WWII who actually did get decorated for valor. He didn’t keep his medals, his crackerjacks, nothing, except paperwork that he stuffed in a box when he was discharged and never saw the light of day again until after his death in ’92. He wasn’t just humble, he actively denied having done anything noteworthy.

This guy can suck a cock in Hell.

A Proud Infidel®™

I had a Great Uncle who fought in the Pacific Campaign in WWII and I never had even a clue that he ever served. I loved every minute I got to spend with him, he had been through a lot of very hairy shit and never mentioned a word about it. Stories about jerks like this wannabe lend further credence to the saying “Those who have been through the most talk about it the least.” I grew up knowing WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam Vets, and those who had been there and done the most talked about it the least.

Mike

Not always what really happened. Talking about what happened in combat, for me was a relief valve. Otherwise I think, I wood have taken myself out.
Everyone of us handles combat stress differently. To say someone talks about it, never really experienced it is total bullshit.
Said by someone who never experienced combat.
I have, and don’t need to verify my service to ANYONE! You can kiss my ass! 23rd Infantry division, Americal, 1/52 light infantry brigade, LZ Stinson, south Vietnam, 1970

Guess which part of this Frogman recital is true for Nelson:

“Been around the world twice, talked to everyone once. Seen two whales fuck, been to three world fairs. I even know a man in Thailand with a wooden cock. I’ve pushed more peter, more sweeter, and more completer than any other peter pusher around. I’m a hard-bodied, hairy-chested, rootin’, tootin’, shootin’, parachutin’, demolition double cap crimpin’ Frogman. There ain’t nothing I can’t do. No sky too high, no sea too rough, no muff too tough. Learned a lot of lessons in my life. Never shoot a large caliber man with a small caliber bullet. Drove all kinds of trucks. Two by’s, four by’s, six by’s. Those big motherfuckers that bend and go TSH TSH when you step on the brakes. Anything in life worth doing is worth overdoing. Moderation is for cowards. I’m a lover. I’m a fighter. I’m a UDT Navy Seal diver. I’ll wine, dine, intertwine, and then sneak out the back door when the refueling is done. If you’re feeling froggy, then you better jump, because this Frogman’s been there, done that, and is going back for more.”

A: He knew a man in Thailand with a wooden cock.

And has the splinters in his gums to prove it.

Yeoman/Journalist/Reporter/Newspaper Editor.

Just how did his story and pictures come to be plastered on all the area newsprint?/sarc

Old Fart Dumbass. BMC Red Forman wants to put his foot up your ass so bad his leg has involuntary twitches.

The fact that he survived all the kamikaze attacks in Philippines and Okinawa campaign in a slow flammable target wasn’t enough for him.

That sounds like more than honorable service to me. Why embellish?

My family has one remaining “living” WWII vet a retired Chief Yeoman USNR. I put the living in quotes as she has been suffering from dementia/Alzheimers for twenty+ years now.

JimV

He is an old guy. I would cut him slack.

2/17 Air Cav

Why? His advanced age only means that he has been a lying sac o’ shit for more years than most lying sacs of shit. I doubt very much that the first time he told his frogman fantasy and Korean war combat bullshit was in 1999. That’s merely the earliest published account of his bullshit that is noted here.

Daisy Cutter

In one of the articles, it says that he has been married to his current wife for 34 years.

This is long after WWII and Korea.

I suspect she doesn’t know and believes all of his stories.

zonk13

Agreed. He simply is an aged turd that has been fermenting in his bullshit for more years than turds that are caught early on. Hopefully he is able to come clean to his family and friends before he dies; I know TAH will help with that haha.

Hayabusa

Unlike fine wine, lies do not improve with age.

IDC SARC

Except that many of these guys portray the communities they never served with under a bad light. More often than not IME they make them out to be mindless indiscriminate killing machines without honor and discipline often telling stories while genuflecting in some sort of hysterical crying episode recalling all the bad they’ve done.

2/17 Air Cav

Are old toad and frogman the same thing? Is a NDSM another name for Purple Heart? If so, he’s the real deal. If not, he’s just another phony baloney, albeit older than most.

Andy11M

I really REALLY hope when I get old and senile I don’t start inflating my Army service or mistaking my memories of movies and news reports with my own experiences. I would hate to be 95 and telling people I helped rescue Jessica Lynch.

FatCircles0311

The POG of POGs and a yuuuuuuuge phony.

What a douche.

Wilted Willy

My pos brother is now pushing 70 and has been living the lie for many years. Just like this old lying sack of shit, his wife didn’t know about all of his lies and still believes all of his bullshit! I can only hope my pos brother ends up in prison for his phony PTSD 100% disability claim that he has been getting paid over 3K a month now for many years! I only wish a real vet hero that needs the money could be getting what this ass hamster has been raking in for so many years. The lying has no age limitations, so I say fuck this old lying shitbag! Throw him overboard and see how long this fucker lives. But remember, shit floats!

Jeffery D Monroe -RET

Wilted Willy why don’t you just turn your brother into The VA? What exactly and what war is he claiming PTSD from? Does he have official DD214,s and DD215s to prove his service?

John Robert Mallernee

I have a friend who’s done a lot for me over the passing years, and yes, I’ve been there for him whenever he needed me. During the war in the old Republic of Viet Nam, he served as a Machinist Mate on a United States Navy oiler, the USS HASSAYAMPA, a ship which holds the Navy’s record for conducting the most refueling operations during that war. He’s authorized to wear the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Viet Nam Service Medal, and the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal. He was displaying the Bronze Star Medal on the wall of his living room, but his son, currently a career gunnery sergeant in the United States Marine Corps and a wounded Iraq War veteran, made him remove it from the display case because there was no paperwork to authorize it. He tells me stories of being ashore in Viet Nam, under fire on a riverine craft, and killing an NVA charging the dock where he was on guard duty, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. But, I don’t want to call him a liar or an imposter. I have no proof that he’s lying about his military service, just as he has no written proof that those incidents are true. After all, as a Specialist Four, E-4, Field Radio Relay and Carrier Equipment Repairman (MOS 312L20) in the Signal Corps of the United States Army, I too, was “in the rear with the gear”, but even so, I was repeatedly subjected to rocket and mortar attacks, sniper fire, a booby trap (where I got my souvenir punji stake), and even a firefight on the perimeter when I was on guard duty, plus having a grenade detonated in my hooch when I was sleeping. Anyway, I try to help him out anyway I can, advising him about how to obtain his paperwork, apply for benefits, et cetera, and if there’s breaking news articles about Agent Orange affecting sailors, I forward those articles to him. So, you guys that were sailors, what do you… Read more »

John Robert Mallernee

OOPS ! ! !

I made a typographical error.

My MOS was 31L20.

IDC SARC

Sometimes shit happens…he could check with Personnel and see if the paperwork ever came through.

I was present at an awards ceremony and saw the CO pin a medal on the Sailor’s chest in 1995. To this day the paperwork has never come through.

Only you can answer how you can answe how to react in the situation outlined.

IDC SARC

Sorry…about the typos

That’s the same story my friend tells, and a few years ago, he showed me an official US Navy black and white photograph of himself, standing on the dock in a line with other sailors, as someone is pinning a medal on his chest.

So, maybe what he says is true.

Guard Bum

Screw this old guy and his stories but it was kind of cool to see military records from that era. His Pro/Cons were pretty good back in the day too.

The best Pro/Cons I ever got in the Marine Corps were 4.8/4.8 and that was just once. Do they still use Pro/Cons?

A Proud Infidel®™

I was looking ar his age and thinking dmemntia or senility, how long has he been rocking those lies?

MrBill

If it was just in the past few years I’d say don’t get too excited about this. But he’s been telling this story since at least 1999. In the linked video he appears to be very lucid. So I’m not inclined to give him a pass.

Bobo

I think that his photo was hanging in an exhibit in the Pentagon for a while. I remember seeing it and thinking that something was off.

Green Thumb

Yeah.

He probably hung off some shit for a while. Or swung off of it by the looks of theta stache’.

Clown.

Wonder if he worked with the “Backdoor Investigative Services”.?

Green Thumb

Just another old, gnarly fuck.

I can image the slash he makes at the Monkress’ Family Reunion.

I guess a steaming pile of Phil Monkress does not drop far from the two-hole.

Puke.

mike huete

His picture is currently on display in the basement conference center in the Mark Center, officially part of the Pentagon reservation, off I-395 in northern Virginia. After reading this post, I went down and checked and it is the very photo at the top of this post.

I called the exhibit curator and left a voice mail – if he calls back I will give him the link to this post

mike huete

Follow-up.

the curator said that the photos on display are part of an art exhibit by a professional photographer. He is going to contact the photographer and let him know.

it kind of makes me wonder if there are any other phonies in the exhibit.

Rob

Great job, include both links, this one and military Phonies
