Billy K. Alumbaugh; driving blind

| March 10, 2017

AZtoVA sends us a link to the story of 61-year-old Billy K. Alumbaugh who, along with his ex-wife Debra, perpetrated a fraud upon the Veterans Affairs Department claiming that he was blind;

According to the indictment unsealed last week, while specialists at the Veterans Administration hospital in Wichita were unable to identify medical reasons for his blindness, Billy was receiving a supplemental monthly pension as he claimed he was unable to drive, and needed assistance to perform routine activities such as reading medication labels, grocery shopping and going to doctor appointments. He collected $63,000.

Alumbaugh maintained his driver license which didn’t even indicate that he needed corrective lenses to operate his vehicle. His ex-wife would drive him to his VA appointments and they were observed switching seats when they were a few miles from the facility.

If convicted, the pair face up to five years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000 on the conspiracy charge, and up to 10 years and a fine of up to $250,000 on the theft charge.

A certain “fly on the Wall” commenting in another thread might want to take note of this article.

Occasionally, the VA and/or the local US Attorney do catch someone perpetrating fraud against the VA. And civil court proceedings include this thing called “discovery” – where the opposing counsel is allowed to obtain copies of alleged “proof” held by the plaintiff.

If, say, someone is making false claims about his/her military background to the VA using bogus or altered documents, well, those documents may well end up in the possession of appropriate investigative agencies if they appear to show evidence of fraud.

I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you, that anyone would go to such lengths to get free money for nothing. Just shocked.

What?? Oh! Forgot the /sarc tag. My bad.

Fine them and imprison them and make them clean out the bedpans at the VA for the rest of their natural born days.

I’m guessing they will order him to make restitution which he will be unable to do. Then he will apologize to the court and all veterans worldwide and he will walk with probation. On a good day, he will get run over by a bus when he leaves the courthouse.

I’ll leave this here –

Speaking of VA fraud I wonder whats going on with Gregory Allen? I know he got fine and suspended sentence for ripping off people for donating to his “House of Steel ” (steel) gym, but I think he was facing fed charges as well.
He had a VA card with a USMC emblem on it, although he was in the Navy.
Wonder what type of phony documents he presented to them.
