Enablers
We’ve all seen them here at TAH – folks who defend even our worst frauds. There’s an Army sergeant major among our readers who vouches for a phony POW, even though that sergeant major wasn’t in the Army when this guy claims that he was a POW of the Vietnamese. Wives vouch for their husbands’ service decades before they knew the fraud. Yes, even Jesse MacBeth has a believer, Captain Eric May, who, despite the fact that MacBeth went to jail for his lies, thinks MacBeth was a Ranger in Iraq.
There are people like “Wayward” Bill Chengelis who distort history with their wild-ass tales, and his supporters still defend him and believe him despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Chengelis said as a company clerk in Vietnam, his job was to account for the dead enemy soldiers by cutting off their ears and collecting them, I guess because a ledger was too hard to keep updated. But, that’s his reason for advocating marijuana use to treat his PTSD from his Vietnam service – he was actually a company clerk in Germany during the Vietnam War.
People like the video of Tom Bruso beating a punk’s ass on a bus so much, they still call him a Vietnam veteran, even though he was booted from the Army after a few weeks of basic training. He has a long history of substance abuse that he blames on his non-existent service in Vietnam. This is from a Facebook comment on that post the other day;
To the guy who said three months was long enough for him to goto Nam, yea, it was. You forget most of these Draftee’s were forced through a 7 week bootcamp, because Gov needed more fodder.
Yesterday, the Chicago Tribune exposed the phony POW/MIA flag designer, William Grahame Wilkin III, who sort of finally admitted maybe it wasn’t true. Denise Crosby, the journalist, went to talk to state Representative Linda Chapa LaVia, the delegate to the Illinois legislature who honored Wilkin’s phony accomplishment on the floor of that body. The Democrat representative of Aurora, Illinois still believes that there’s a chance that Wilkin did design the flag – 11 years after the National League of POW/MIA Families adopted the logo design.
Chapa LaVia says she throws her support behind Aurora Christian’s Grahame Wilkin because she knows the kind of person he is: not only “a brilliant artist,” but also a “strong Christian who has done so much for his students and the community.”
While Heisley’s name blankets the Internet, with groups like the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and National League of POW/MIA Families recognizing the late World War II veteran, who died in 2009, as the flag’s designer, Chapa LaVia says after looking at the evidence, she is convinced it is possible “two people could have produced” the same logo.
[…]
“Who says there could not be two similar designs that were drawn,” Chapa LaVia insisted, her words echoing those of Wilkin himself last week as he struggled “to wrap my head around” the overwhelming evidence supporting the logo’s design by Heisley more than a decade before the art contest he entered in high school.
The only reason that I busted Wilkin was to keep the story of the creation of the logo historically accurate, to give credit to Newt Heisley, the actual designer and a World War II veteran, for his legacy. These enablers like LaVia sully that legacy because they won’t admit their mistakes, or their politics or biases get in the way of their good judgement.
Category: Dumbass Bullshit
Delusional deniers who refused to believe that these scumabgs are phony even after the evidence is shoved in their face. Incredible.
Might be a problem of pride. People like her can never admit when she is wrong.
Methinks we have a ditzus maximus sighting.
I’ll just leave this here:
It IS difficult to admit that you’ve been hoodwinked, especially when you think you’re smarter than you really are, which means you’re not smart enough to smell a scam from a mile away.
Jonn, you forgot this meme that has been circulating on Fakebook. I have seen a ton of people “share” it.
http://www.snopes.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/tropic-thunder.jpg
People have actually sent me that picture and asked if I know the story of the Vietnam veterans in the picture.
You should tell them that it’s the amazing tale of a long range patrol that stumbled upon a gang of jungle drug runners, destroyed their operation and escaped in a helicopter when a DVR system miraculously stopped an RPG from shooting them down (plus one of them is gay-so there’s a SJW angle).
I couldn’t finish watching the movie, so I know nothing about it.
In that case tell them to “never go full retard”-hopefully they can follow the breadcrumbs from there.
I think this is the LRRP that rescued the trooper who was walking down a trail with a cast, who had previously been passed by several U.S. military vehicles that didn’t stop to pick him up b/c they had no room for him.
The USMC LRRP?
MaYbE a LRP WiTh TwO PuRpLe HeArTs?
BHWHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
???????
Cracks me up when I see my non-service FaceBook friends post that.
I cannot believe no one recognize Ben Stiller.
I could understand not recognizing Jack Black or Robert Downey Jr, but the sheer number of people who didn’t recognize Ben Stiller still confuses me
Really???? I mean fucking REALLY!!!!
Several of my veteran and retiree friends, four of them, sent this to me or posted on FB asking for a shoutout for these soldiers who served in VN. No kidding. I said nothing but many savaged them on FB for the obvious error.
When told of the origin of the photo, many defend it as “it is the thought that counts”. Just like the Brazilian women amputees who are passed off as being American Service women.
Yeah, because as Ex-PH2 said above, no one likes to admit they have been hoodwinked.
The newer one I’ve seen is Anthony Edwards playing Goose from Top Gun.
There’s even the story of how he died to go along with it. lol.
That’s starting to spread on FB quite a bit.
From Representative Linda Chapa LaVia’s interview – ‘The Aurora state rep, a retired Army officer herself and chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, insisted her staff “did do the research” before introducing the resolution. And although she admitted to being as confused as the rest of us about the many head-shaking elements to this story, she strongly feels Wilkin was not out to deceive anyone and that he believed he created the famous flag’s design.’
Looks like someone’s staff did a half-assed job on the “research” and she’s got her name stuck with Wilkin’s lies.
Fucking dumb politician… must have been one hell of an officer when she was in (as in throwing everyone under the bus when things got all jacked up).
I guess in this case, someone needs to tell her to “Embrace the suck”.
Retired officer? Um, I don’t think so. Here’s her bio:
http://www.housedem.state.il.us/members/chapalavial/
Says she served (apparently on active duty, though some of that time may have been as an ROTC cadet) from 1988-1993; in the ARNG from 1993-1998; and apparently has been in the “inactive reserve” since.
If by “inactive reserve” she means IRR, I’d like to see some documentation before I’ll buy that “retired” status. 20 “good years” (e.g., with 50+ retirement points) are required to retire from the reserve components. Many if not most in the IRR never come close to earning 50 retirement points annually.
Guess it’s FOIA time. She was born in Aurora, IL. Anyone have an idea as to a DOB or SSN, or whether she served under another name?
Her very own Wiki page says DOB is 16 Aug 66.
Per my NGB-22, I only have 15 retirement points each, for the three years I was in the IRR.
Unless you find a tour or do military correspondence courses, as an IRR member that’s all you’ll have. Those are the annual membership points everyone in the reserve components gets simply for being in the reserves. You have to find some temp AD tour, arrange to perform unpaid IDT or other special work, or complete correspondence courses to earn the other 35 pts needed for a “good” year if you’re a member of the IRR.
Got pretty much everything needed for a FOIA but verification of maiden name (believed to be Chapa, but not verified). Could use help with that if anyone can find that info.
Per her public bio, she’s a grad of East Aurora High School. Based on DOB and age, she would likely have graduated in either 1983, 1984, or 1985. If anyone has access to any of the HS yearbook or reunion sites (I don’t do those as a matter of course), the info might be there. Or it might be available in a public library that might have a copy of that year’s East Aurora HS yearbook.
Looking through the Army White Pages, I did not find either a Linda Lavia or a Linda Chapa. The closest match I found was Erlinda Lavia, rank 1LT, status “veteran”.
Hmm. Looks like I’ll need name verification, too. Thanks MrBill.
Just looked at the East Aurora High School (home of the Fighting Tomcats) yearbook for 1984.
She graduated that year under the name of Erlinda Chapa.
She identified herself as a member of Classmates.Com with the name of Linda (Chapa) LaVia.
Thanks, Claw.
Will be out of pocket for a few days, but will get a FOIA inquiry in the mail on return.
You’re very welcome.
I do have access to Classmates.Com, so if there is a yearbook contained within their site, I can look at it.
If there are any other queries like that, I am more than happy to look up.
Ey Jonn, how many times a day do you have do deal with jello-heads like them?
The worst ones are the women checking on their Nigerian scammer boyfriends. If you’re asking me about them, you already know they’re fake. If I tell you that he’s not in the Army, don’t start arguing with me.
ANY time I start to feel like a dumbass I just think that there are still people out there that still fall for that shit!
You mean, you mean the Nigerians are bogus. Noooooo. My faith in mankind has been destroyed.
Really, I truly feel for the (mostly) women who fall for this stuff. Five minutes on google and they would know this is a long-running scam.
No all of them. One sent me an email recently and, at first, I thought it was a scam. He offered to give me 100% interest on any amount. Well, I wasn’t born yesterday, so I sent him $1.00 and, believe it or not, a few days later I received $2.00 in the mail! I know a good thing when I see one so, the next morning, I sent him $5,000.00 and any day now I will receive $10,000! Cool, huh? So, you see, not all of them are scammers.
Score!
Hey, I’, not selfish. If you want a piece of the action, let me know. Apparently, I found the only honest and legitimate Nigerian investment banker around! By the way, in anticipation of the 10K, I booked a nonrefundable European tour. Is that cool or waht?
I can beat that, if you send me 5,000 U.S. Dollars, I will send you back 50,000 Guyanese Dollars.
I can get you 5,000,000 Venezuelan Bolivars for that $5,000. No kidding. Hamburger costs $176.00 per pound on the black market. Except there isn’t any to be had at any price.
Sounds like it’s time to start chowing down on that other white meat.
Capybara burgers for everybody!!
You guys sound like you on’t believe me. That hurts my feeling. That’s right, feeling. I have only one and now you’ve gone and crushed it.
The reporter, Denise Crosby of the Chicago Tribune, made another mistake by not researching further when doing her follow up story “Chapa LaVia still believes in embattled art teacher” This is what she wrote: “If you want to talk about confusing, consider this: In addition to the name of POW wife Evelyn Grubb being widely associated with overseeing the development of the flag in 1971 with the National League of POW/MIA Families, another POW wife’s name comes up on numerous veterans’ websites: Grahme Wilkin, who spells her name almost exactly like the Aurora art teacher’s.” “Coincidence? Connected?” “That’s got people a whole lot smarter than me scratching their heads.” For her information, the only Vietnam POW with the last name of Wilkin was GEORGE HENRY WILKINS (plural). In 1957, George Wilkins married LaVerne Willis” http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/ghwilkins.htm There WAS NO Vietnam POW Wife who went by the name of Grahme Wilkin! Someone changed a Wiki site to put that in there! THE REAL VIETNAM POW WIFE who helped with the design of the POW/MIA was Mary Helen Huff, wife of Vietnam MIA, Navy Cmdr. Michael G. Hoff! Here is an August 9 2009 Jacksonville Newspaper that talks about Mary: http://jacksonville.com/news/columnists/mark_woods/2009-08-09/story/a_symbol_made_for_memories# “I can’t imagine what Scott Speicher’s family has gone through the last 18 years. But Mary Helen Hoff and her five children can. They can imagine all too vividly. Hoff – an Orange Park woman whose idea led to the creation of the POW/MIA flag – knows what it’s like to learn that your husband’s plane has been shot down on the other side of the world. She knows what it’s like to find out he ejected from the plane and is missing. She knows what it’s like to wake up in the night, hear a noise and swear it’s him coming through the door. She knows what it’s like to spend decades keeping pressure on military leaders, fighting for information, hoping that one day, one way, he’ll actually come home. She does not know what it’s like to hear his remains have been identified. Nearly 23 years after Lt. Cmdr. Michael… Read more »
Cocksuckers, all of them.
Dumb-Ass’s
Don’t forget all of Jimmy Walls’ sycophants on Facebook! Still cracks me up how committed some of those guys are.
Yep, considering the count is at 20,081 (and still rising) members of that group page now.
But when you consider that about every other “member” of that page is a fake Facebook account that was added into the count by either of the two Euro-Weenies and Jimmy Low Left Balls himself, as well as the ability of any group member to add members, the number of actual, real live people who are members is probably less than 5000.
There seems to be some kind of a weird get the numbers up game going on there that is beyond me.
But as long as you can get your private parts tongue washed every night by a phony Spec4 parts clerk pilot, you’ll do just about everything possible to keep the tongue washing going.
Sounds those Scientoligists that would go to Borders, buy all of the copies of Dianetics, take the books back to the warehouse, then ship them out to Barnes & Noble. Bastards were too lazy to remove the Borders price tags before boxing them up. Of course, we are all aware of the “military exploits” if L. Ron Hubbard.
Ol’ Jimmy Balls is a cocksucker for sure and his enablers must swallow. For the love of God and all mankind, how many times can they post the same Huey pictures?
I have lots of people that should know better that enable me. The two most prominent are LTC Dave Grossman and Brad Thor.
Grossman still pushes my books in his seminars about killing (ironic given that it doesn’t appear that he’s ever killed anyone especially in those combat assignment like, you know, West Point). Even as a former Army officer, he still insists that none of the evidence against me is real which would include apparently the NPRC records about my 58 days in service.
Of course, Grossman has his own integrity problems by still claiming that his book has been nominated for a Pulitzer prize when the searchable online Pulitzer database that shows all winners and nominees doesn’t show his book at all. How stupid do people have to be to continue to support his non-killing, pulitzer lyin’ ass? Pretty stupid, I guess.
https://thetruthaboutsocnetlies.wordpress.com/2014/08/23/giduck-pal-ltc-dave-grossman-falsely-claims-hes-a-pulitzer-prize-nominee/
Brad Thor is another useful idiot to me. He has name recognition and gets on TV with Glenn Beck singing my praises. Of course, what he doesn;t realize is that this rabid support of me brings his own military story into question.
https://thetruthaboutsocnetlies.wordpress.com/2013/07/07/how-john-giduck-misleads-you-brad-thor-lies-about-john-giduck/
Of course, they both seem to like when I look up at them with my doe eyes and whistle through my nose. How I love the taste of famous nutbutter.
sincerely
John “Faker 6” Giduck
Yeah, I know that “Vietnam Tom” was not what it was claimed he was but you have to admit that was an epic punk beatdown
I mean, seriously.
“Beat pinkies ass”
“Beat that white boy”
“Oh, Lord..Oh jesus christ”!!
“He’s leakin’!”
“Call de amberlamps!”
Should dig a little deeper into that story.
The video picks up in mid-argument.
Bruso was on the bus when the man he beat up, a 50 year old named Micheal Lovette. Lovette was highly intoxicated (he later was interviewed by a radio station), and as he walked by Bruso said very loudly to someone on the bus that he “needed a brother to spitshine his shoes”.
Not a very nice thing to say. It was very apparent that he was baiting a smaller man who was impaired, perhaps waiting to goad him.
Lovette, as he passed stopped and asked Bruso, “Why does it have to be a fucking brother?.. why can’t it be a white man?”
Then Lovette went to the back of the bus and sit accross from Lovette and loudly asked him “How much wil you charge to spitshine my shoes”
This is where the girl Ivanya Washington started videotaping.
Lovette, during the radio interview, admitted he was wrong in putting his hands on Bruso.
Bottom line is that Bruso is a nutcase who is a druggie and prone to violence, and he picked a fight with a smaller man.
Should have read that Bruso went to the back of the bus and sat accross from Lovette.
Here’s a follow-up story about that man in Oakland who got into a physical fight on the AC Transit bus.’Thomas Alex Bruso: Epic Beard Man’ http://www.sfweekly.com/sanfrancisco/the-rise-and-fall-of-an-internet-sensation/Content?oid=2177110
