William Joseph Mitiu; phony SEAL, phony First Sergeant

Someone sent us this fellow, William Joseph Mitiu who claims that he retired from the Army as a First Sergeant after a stint in the Navy. He claims at least two Combat Infantryman Badges, that he was a SEAL in the Navy and a special forces soldier in the Army with a combat parachute jump. The odd part is that his records support a portion of that. He spent four years in the Navy, during the Desert Storm era. He was assigned to the USS John F Kennedy which was the first ship to launch aircraft against Saddam Husein’s Iraq twenty-five years ago. But Mitiu’s assignment to the Kennedy seems to be preceded by a 5-month period of confinement at Naval Air Station Memphis.

There is evidence, however, that he was able to alter his records, or that some clerk altered his records, to add a SEAL Trident (Navy Special Warfare Insignia) to his records. Don Shipley tells us that he never attended BUD/S training, but there it is right on his FOIA.
![William Joseph Mitiu FOIA](https://i0.wp.com/valorguardians.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/William-Joseph-Mitiu-FOIA-233x300.jpg?resize=233%2C300)
![William Joseph Mitiu FOIA 2](https://i0.wp.com/valorguardians.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/William-Joseph-Mitiu-FOIA-2-300x102.jpg?resize=300%2C102)
Of course, that makes the rest of it suspect as well. Things like the Master Parachutist badge with a combat jump star, the Navy parachutist wings, the scuba badge and the rigger wings.
For example, the FOIA and his ERB say that he only reached the rank of Sergeant, but he claims to have been a first sergeant;
![William Joseph Mitiu ERB](https://i0.wp.com/valorguardians.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/William-Joseph-Mitiu-ERB-300x225.jpg?resize=300%2C225)
His ERB also shows that he was assigned to Service Battery, 1/214th Field Artillery, a National Guard unit in Georgia, not a special forces unit. It’s also not an assignment that would earn him a CIB, which he is wearing in the top picture on his hat along with a Special Forces Unit pin, but not supported by even his altered records. It’s possible and likely that he deployed to the war against terror – it looks like he was called to active duty twice for deployments in 2003 – 2004 and 2006 – 2007. So it looks like he did his part, but didn’t accomplish all he wanted to accomplish, so he made stuff up.
Folks who have known him, say he wears the third award of the CIB, but he doesn’t even have a first award of the CIB.

Hmm. I’m wondering if he provided a “DD214” when he enlisted in the Army/USAR/ARNG that might have listed a few “phantom items” – and was never cross-checked against his actual record of service in the Navy.
I’m also thinking that this one just might merit formal investigation.
there are a few 42As out there that have been known to fix there records and awards,
I’ve seen one go down for it.
and they never bothered to check the rest of the crew for funny stuff. 🙂
Hondo, I think you are correct. He went to A-school and from the looks of it he did something bad. It is apparent he had to go the court martial because a CO can not authorize over 60 or 90 days confinement. It would make sense after brig time send to a Sea duty assignment and would be there until his EOS 1993.
I would also bet it says on his separation evaluation not recommended for retention in the Navy. During that time they were cracking down on E-4 and below and you had to have permission from BUPERS to stay in with little or know black marks on your service.
When I was in Aviation rates where not on the list to be a SEAl, this dude is a ABH. Now times have change since I retired in 2004 they now have different requirements I guess or you just change rates.
The SEALS have their own rating now (SO).
In the past if you weren’t in a source rating you could still apply, but would have to do a lateral move within 24 months.
Just for clarification…My familiarity with such things though I was a SARC, not a SEAL comes from not being some kind of fan boy, but a previous NCOIC position at a Joint Command on Ft Bragg.lol
Badges listed (sort of), but no listings that indicate he attended or completed required training…must be legit and well above my paygrade. No doubt a thoroughly dangerous man that lived a life of danger concealed in the darkest of shadows.
It’s this. He’s a real life Jason Bourne. Just thank Jim for his service and back away slowly. Don’t make eye contact.
I’m gonna go with due to so many casualties in the CoC the dashing SGT took leadership position after leadership position until he was the de facto 1SG 🙂 .
Does that VFW type C*nt Cap say he’s the Post Commander?
Nothin better than being the head poser when it comes to vetting DD214’s for potential members of your VFW Post.
Ya mean like one of Don Shipley’s latest busts where he and MCPO Hershel went up North and busted one that was Post Commander of a VFW, they even stripped the stickers off of his car before he ran off with his tail between his legs!
He was a Post Commander at not 1 but 2 VFW Post. The last one he stole everything that wasn’t nail down. He brags about catching a guy using Stolen Valor which you can google. He has been ban from VFW’s nation wide. The biggest narcissist I have ever met.
So, how many William Joseph Mitiu’s live in Georgia?

Contempt of court?
He must be taking lessons from Lawn-Dart Danni.
I wonder who’s gonna show up to defend this guy.
Who knows…this might be a job for James Branum, Bernath prodigy.
Having worked with updating and ensuring all ERB was accurate for my battalion’s Soldiers (over 800 Soldiers in all, including all ranks), I find this rather amusing that there is so much information missing, including years and duty assignments missing on his ERB, along with information on his ASVAB scores, his PULHES ratings, and much much more. Plus if he actually did deploy, he would have deployment information updated. All of this is blank, which screams either laziness or like Chevalierian cheese blocks.
Sadly, this could all also be the result of poor S-1 team performance, but it is the individual Soldier’s responsibility, not that of the S-1 team or leadership to ensure his or her information is accurate.
Smells rather Bernathish if you ask me.
This clown is all over the place.
A “Phildoesque” dude if I have ever seen one.
Plus he looks all felonious and shit.
Green Thumb, we’ve agree on this issue before and now as well. Everybody wants that pretty blue CIB, they just don’t want to bother with the whole, “infantry training and then service in combat” to earn it. Every time I see even a second award of the CIB, I ask a lot of questions that never get answered or get outright lied about. Ask any ass hole just a few questions and you will quickly find out how many appointments the dick stain is suddenly late for and needs to leave ASAP. And I always call them a liar before they can get away. Fortunately, there have only been three I’ve run into in the last six years or so out in public. But I swear if I ever see a third CIB award, I will start out polite but, if that man isn’t first, absolutely ancient in age, as well as have some righteous background and dates to talk about, then the shit will be in the fan. The very few honorable men, who EARNED a third CIB should be defended and their sacrifices cannot be allowed to be trampled on my some ass hole, with a piss in his pants, cowardly need to be something he never had the balls to be. So, in a few words, fuck this guy, up, down and sideways! I hope someone crams that CIB and Trident up his ass without the pips on and then smacks his ass cheeks together. That way they will at least be where he should be wearing them…out of sight and where his brains are! Screw this fucker with a dull bayonet!
That was just beeyooteeful.^^^
That about sums it up.
I got to be a “Field First” a couple of times for a day or two (main duties consisted of picking up chow at the BN field mess and delivering it to the Platoons), but I don’t think that qualified as real 1SG time.
What a bag of flattened nuts…
Isn’t this him as well? He has two postings on the following site and when you click on his name, the DOB seems to match him.
http://www.pebforum.com/site/threads/medical-retirement-revoked-wtf.17789/
He also does claim to be an OIF/OEF Veteran and a “glorified paratrooper”:
https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=901377533213493&id=117657504918837
a careerist that repeatedly misuses the abbreviation CIC instead of CINC…that’s just annoying.
I know for a fact that he was in iraq. I was his first sgt. He is a p.x. soldier and wouldn’t make a good kp. He is an imposter.
Some more Intel on Billy-boi… possibly background on events leading up to his mugshot:

Looks like he was the Post Commander in the 2010 – 2012 timeframe when some stuff came down. Also of note – he’s a “combat wounded” type in some of the links…
More G-2 stuff – still Post Commander:

Oh, that WSB-TV story is a hoot. Looks like Mitiu’s post was scammed by a faker and taken for nearly $350.
Lady Karma, she is a beyotch sometimes. But she also has an ironic sense of humor.
That link posted by AskaMarine has him stating in no uncertain terms that he is not only combat wounded, but also disabled from the wounds.
No combat wound for him. He went home on leave from Iraq and didn’t come back. Said he fell down stairs at home. I know ,I was there when his CO ordered him to bring back evidence of his awards or face charges. He belonged to svc b try 1/214 FA at the time. He just keeps on lieing.
Combat Wounded = Prison fight.
Prison sex gone bad more like it.
I found the top photo was posted by a local newspaper – get a load of the caption:
“1SG William J. Mitiu shares his thoughts during From the Heart during the Roswell Memorial Day Ceremony. 1SG Mitiu has served a total of 23 years in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, including 14 combat deployments.”

What counts is how many deployments he feels that he did, the sacrifice he feels that he made and the awards and qualification that in his heart he knows that he deserves, right?
I am virtually humbled by this great American.
Did that number of deployments include the number of times he released a Bernath into the throne.
Don’t those just boomerang right back into one’s rectum?
I don’t know about that, but all I do know is that hurt.
He didn’t even serve in the gulf. He checked on board the USS Kennedy on 29 March 1991 the day after she returned from the gulf 28 March 1991. So no shield or storm time. The reason he got out of the Navy at that time E-4 and below had to get permission from BUPERS to reenlist and he would have been denied because of his bad time what ever that was. This was the program before preform to serve, I don’t recall the name but he would have fell under this. The Navy was in draw down phase and had many reduction tools they were using and this was one.
While he definitely wasn’t there for the period of actual conflict the Kennedy was Deployed to the area from Oct 1992 to April 1993. There is a chance that he would have qualifed to recieve both the Southwest Asia Service Medal (which was awarded until 1995) and the Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) which was awarded up until 1993. The Kennedy also Supported operations In Bosnia.
But he definately wasnt there when the fur was flying.
Official Navy history for the USS John F. Kennedy says she returned from the Persian Gulf in March, docking at Norfolk at 1430 on 28 March 1991.
http://www.history.navy.mil/research/histories/ship-histories/danfs/j/john-f-kennedy-cva-67.html
Records above indicate this guy was at Norfolk from 1-28 Mar and reported on-board the USS Kennedy the following day.
Looks like the only operational deployment this guy ever made while in the Navy was the USS Kennedy’s 1992-1993 Med cruise. The rest of the time this guy was assigned to the ship seems to have been spent in a combo of training cruises and shipyard time.
So he might have got a Armed Forces Service medal, I was over there during that time frame for Operation Deny Flight.
When you click on the picture of him and some lady standing in front of a big American flag, read on down where it mentions eight military women killed in RVN and stops at “see more”. That’s as far as I could get with that story no matter how I tried to maneuver this computer. My guess is he’s about to say, “And my momma was one of them, but that happened before I was born”. Ass wipes like this expect us to believe ANYTHING they spout!
Preparing a follow-up FOIA to see if we can get a few more specifics about this guy. If anyone can confirm his place of birth or SSN, I’d be much obliged if you could send the info thru Jonn. (As always, don’t do anything unlawful to obtain either.)
Hello! I’m his daughter. I am more than happy to provide any information about him. As you can imagine, his parenting skills are nonexistent as well. I’ll do anything I can to help you. You can reach me at emi.mitiu@gmail.com
If you could provide me your email I could send you that information needed.
The FUBAR is strong with this one. . . .
I’d love to know how this shitbag ever managed to enlist in the Army, given that his REAL (unaltered) 214 would have shown lost time and almost certainly RE-3 or RE-4 seps code, not to mention a General versus Honorable discharge due to his CM conviction (CO’S can only authorize up to 30 days in CCU, IIRC.)
I’m sorry I thought 60 or maybe 90 my bad. Your correct 30 days. I was thinking restricted. That’s what I was saying he left with a bad RE code and I know his last eval would have said not recommended for retention. Thank you brother…
