EO 13662 bans Kalashnikov products
According to the Treasury Department, the President signed Executive Order 13662 which expanded sanctions against Russia. The EO includes products made by Kalashnikov Concern which manufactures the popular AK-47 semi-automatic rifle and the Saiga line of semi-automatic shotguns.
The following entities have been added to [Office of Foreign Funds Control (OFAC)]’s [Specially Designated Nationals (SDN)] List:

Of course, until recently the AK-47 was the scariest of the scary gun subset of firearms, judging by the media’s concern about the weapons. While I’m not a big fan of the Kalashnikov series, I am completely sympathetic with those of you who are. This means that not only can’t you buy the rifle at a reasonable price, the cost of replacement parts will skyrocket. Luckily there are enough other manufacturers to fill the gap. Just glancing at Gun Broker, I see Polish versions are about the same price they were all along.
But, I guess that Obama wants to focus his unintended consequences on existing stocks of Kalashnikov products, which by the way, includes cars, motorcycles and machining tools.

I reckon that’ll bring Russia to her knees….
Oh yeah. Putin is probably in the fetal position crying right now. Should of used a hashtag to REALLY show them we mean business.
Well, but you just know there’s no market for any of that stuff outside the USofA. I’m sure they’ll be devastated.
But all the useful idiots in the administration are feeling warm and fuzzy because they “did something.” How they feel is all that matters, doncha know. Anything to add to nonsensical regulations which keep everyone busy in nonproductive activities always make them feel warm and fuzzy.
Does anyone else miss Ronald Reagan???
Yes. The best way to put the screws to the Russians is to hit them where it hurts most Oil. Can’t remember where I read/heard it but if we could get oil to $70-$80/barrel they their economy will take a massive hit.
International speculators will never let that happen. They are too busy helping the communists put the USA on its knees…
In memoriae magnae Ronaldus Maximus
Well damn it. I’ve been interested in acquiring a Saiga-12, but it’s considered an “assault weapon” in California, and you can’t buy one unless it has the stupid fixed magazine. I’m in the process of moving from California to Virginia this summer, so I’d been waiting until after the move to make the purchase, so I could get an unmolested version. And just when I’m ready, Obama bans the damn things from being imported.
Oh, well. I’m sure the loss of revenue to Kalashnikov Concern will be just the thing that finally brings Putin to his knees and makes him hand over Snowden, give the Crimea back to Kiev, pull his troops out of Georgia, etc., etc…
Hayabusa…As popular as they are, especially in the south and/or more gun friendly states, there are loads of them available at gun shows and from private sellers.
They are now collector items.
Sure you can purchase them, but at collector price.
President Mom-Jeans and his Clown Car Posse administration could fuck up a soup sandwich.
They already did. Haven’t you followed implementation of the
Patently Pathetic and Asinine Collection of AbsurdityPatient Protection and Affordable Care Act, AKA ObamaCare?Ah … I guess my NYS purchase of an AK-47 is really off the table now!
They’ve really upset Vlad now. He is definitely going to get even with bodaprez.
‘Russian Foreign Minister: Russia will retaliate in reaction to US imposing new sanctions over Ukraine crisis’ – @Reuters
How long before those old missilie silos and bunkers in Cuba are rehabbed?
Ex…My thoughts exactly. Since Kerry told the OAS in 2013 that the Monroe Doctrine was dead, this administration’s resolve to keep enemies and threats out of the western hemisphere is gone. So what’s to stop Vlad from activating nukes in Cuba. Does anyone here think Obama has the guts and resolve of John Kennedy to go through another Cuban Missile Crisis? Does anyone here think Obama has the brains to go through anything like that? Fortunately, I do not deceive myself into believing he has any brains at all. He is and has been a token president since 2008. He is what the Democrats wanted and what they got. They made a PC decision on the most powerful office in the world and it has worked out swimmingly, wouldn’t you say? /sarc/
Actually the reasons for Kalashnikov are not because of the rifle, but because of other actions the company has been taking WRT to Ukraine. These products aren’t banned. Business with Kalashnikov and seven other Russian defense firms has been banned because of their involvement with the separatists in Ukraine. The bigger problem is the cheap ammo that comes from Russia, but I’m fairly sure the market will compensate for that too.
13662 are sectoral sanctions. They focus on sectors of the Russian economy, attempting to influence Putin’s calculus by cutting off sectors such as defense or energy from the US market.
BTW – Uralvagonzavod also produces trolley cars, busses, etc. But it’s a tank maker. And how have Ukrainian separatists been getting Russian tanks?
And so…is our fearless leader gonna have his DOJ/FBI/AFT running around, rounding up weapons from the owners that have them now? Just a thought, people.
And one more, pushing the chips forward…How long before he does this with AR platforms?
No. AKs already paid for, already in stock and already in circulation are completely legal. As are ones made by companies other than Kalashnikov. There’s a lot to criticize the administration for, but let’s stick to facts and stop spreading misinformation.
Fact of the matter is that gun owner concerns were at the forefront of the decision makers’ minds when these discussions took place. They were very concerned about 2A rights and ensuring that they weren’t violated.
I’m the first one to be critical of this administration, but I base my criticisms on actual facts.
You won’t fit in on this site then lol
Actually, Golden Dragon – Nicki fits in quite well. Most here base their comments on fact. We do, however, have the occasional leftist tool who jumps in with a comment based on ignorance, half-truths, and/or outright falsehood.
WIN! Love me some Hondo! LOL
Suck-up!
YEP! Hondo wuvs me right back too! 😉
Are you trying to tell us that the Obama administration considered our 2nd Amendment rights before making this decision?
No infringement of the 2nd Amendment here, ArmyATC. You still have a right to “keep and bear arms”. You just don’t have the right to import those from prohibited foreign sources.
The authority to regulate foreign trade is specifically granted the US Government in Article I, Section 8. Congress has in turn granted the POTUS the authority to place firms on the SCD – which prohibits goods from those firms from being imported.
Actually yes. They did. That was a point of discussion for quite a while.
er ATF
What’s next? Pulling out of the Olympics? That’ll teach em’. The parallels between Carter and Obama are astounding.
The only differences I see between the two? Carter at least had a dash of humility and wasn’t deliberately trying to destroy the nation. Obama wallows in hubris. He fiddles while the nation burns.
I would say Obama’s best offense is harsh language. Except…some old Gunnery Sergeant would have to spend weeks teaching him how to cuss properly.
“[T]his administration’s resolve to keep enemies and threats out of the western hemisphere is gone.”
If one understands that the vision of The Emperor and his ilk is a world w/o borders, w/o a multitude of gov’ts, where a single world body governs, where a single world military and police keep order, where no country is superior to any other, where there is one world court and one world legislature whose decisions are binding on all people, as world citizens, where an economic system that is directed towards the good of all with meeting wholesale needs as the goal and individual wants as the evil to be quashed, then much of this horror show makes good sense. It will take many uears, several hundreds no doubt, but it all begins with a vision and plan.
2/17 Air Cav…Here-Here.
This is why 400,000++ people signed up to move to Mars permanently, even though only about 20 will actually go there.
When you quit giggling about that idea, everything starts with a first step, including moving off this planet.
Fucking Ovomit.
What the hell is it with Democrates and firearm bans against countries in which they’ve personally sold out US interests too?
Look at Clinton’s Norinco ban for example. He was apparently so upset about Chinese small arms, yet there he was in the oval office fucking selling who knows what to Chinamen flooding his office. That ban is still in effect 20 years later too.
Now look at Ovomit and how he’s “reset” the Russian relationship and is now able to negotiate better after the election regarding Russia. Opps, screwed the pooch on that. Better enact a ban that’s never going to go away and just utterly piss all over US gun owners.
This shit is just a poor backdoor ban on arms in America. You’d have be a fool to believe otherwise. I wonder how long before a 5.45 ammo ban is implemented because it’s the Russian caliber of choice.
What is going on in Ukraine at the crash site is not helping Putin’s image one bit, nor is bodaprez even remotely effective. Those pro-Russian insurgents are doing everything they can to interfere with recovering remains of any kind, including the dead.

However, Putin is retaliating against US sanctions by barring entry for unnamed Americans. That mean I probably won’t get to visit the Kremlin, but it wasn’t on my bucket list, anyway.
but Steinemeier, Merkel’s foreign minister has said this: “Now is the moment for everyone to stop and think to themselves what might happen if we don’t stop the escalation.”
That does not sound good to me. One solution would indeed be dropping the price of oil to $70/barrel or below. There are others that would work as well, but it take some cojones to put them into effect and I don’t see that happening.
Well, now I have the names of those Americans being banned from entering Russia.

I’m not on that list. Is anyone here on it?
Lynndie England? Really? She can’t travel to her summer trailer park in Moscow? I bet she’s just crushed.
How is obama and Hillary’s reset with Russia going. We now have armed drunk russian goons looting a downed civilian liner
