James D. “Sonny” Baker; 2/9th Marines phony

| March 11, 2014

James Baker

Scotty sends his work on James D. “Sonny” Baker who is a boxer with a record of 1-4-0, all by knock outs, so you know when he talks to the media he’d rather talk about his military career in the Marine Corps, but he fails at that, too. Here’s the way he told a reporter at the Northern Express about his derring-do in the 2/9th Marines;

Sonny Baker - off to war

OK, he was in Panama, but according to Wiki, it was nearly five years after our war against Noriega in that country;

The battalion[‘]s next two deployments were to Fort Sherman, Panama during one of which they participated in the Javelin anti-tank missile evaluation program

If they were going to participate in Operation Just Cause, it would make no sense to send them to Fort Sherman, because Sherman was on the Atlantic Coast and had no airfields or ports from which they could deploy to Chorillo, which is on the Pacific side and closer to Howard Air Force Base. And probably sending them to Fort Sherman in 1994, they were a little late.

His tales were a little off on Desert Shield/Desert Storm, too. 2/9th Marines were in the Philippines. He has a Southwest Asia Service Medal, but I have to think, since there’s only one service star, he might have been in the area for Operation Provide Comfort, (June 1, 1992 – November 30, 1995) when 2/9th Marines were operating in Somalia. If he had indeed been in Saudi Arabia during DS/DS/PC, he’d have more than one service star.

Sonny Baker FOIA

I guess being in Somalia in the early days (there were casualties among 2/9 Marines in Somalia) wasn’t sexy enough. And checking the interwebz is too hard for a journalist like Robert Downes. And those stories about being a gunfighter in Chorillo and lighting cigarettes from corpses on the Highway of Death were too good to check on. By the way, I spent a few weeks on the Highway of Death and I didn’t see any Marines there. Of course, the smoke from the oil wells made it hard to see all the way to the Philipines.

It appears this douche nozzle made up most everything about his bio if it involves any sort of combat. He was a radio operator. Reading a little deeper, it appears that he became an anti war protester. This appears to be the angle of the story. Big time combat vet now against war. Fuck this phony fuck.

I do like the part where three weeks after his high school graduation, he was in 2/9. Guess he was so bad ass, he didn’t have to go to boot camp. Clown show.

Hondo

Jonn, I’m pretty sure he got the AFEM on his FOIA report for Somalia vice a SWASM. However, if 2/9 did a Persian Gulf deployment afloat between 1990 and 1995, he’d rate the SWASM for that. Same is true about deployment afloat to the Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, and parts of the Arabian Sea during the same period. My guess is one of those (possibly immediately before or after he served in Somalia) is where he got the SWASM.

AdamsSamoa

He has not had a fight in about 8 years…. at 43 he is a little old to be a boxer.

Twist

What a dirt bag.

On another note, why does my name and email keep getting deleted in the “Leave a Reply” box?

Green Thumb

I have the same issue.

Old Trooper

Me, too

DITTO. I think THE BLOG ATE IT, DUDE!!

Ex-PH2©

The ‘Reply’ box has dementia. It can remember what you said 5 seconds ago, but not who you are.

Sparks

Ditto on the “Reply” thing. Seems to happen whenever I move from one thread to another.

CWORet

What a Turd. Just not good enough, gotta pimp it up some. Asshat.

Twist, you might have “Delete browsing history on exit” checked in your internet options.

dcm

Why does this dude have a CIB in a picture when it states he never served in a combat zone?

http://www.navytimes.com/article/20140311/BENEFITS06/303110036/Vets-battle-VA-post-Vietnam-Agent-Orange-claims

ArmyATC

Why would a Air Force officer be wearing a CIB at all? Something about that guy isn’t right. The way his uniform fits. The way he stands. Something just seems off…

Hondo

Individual’s obit (he died last Oct) claims he served in the US Army prior to serving in the USAF/USAFR.

Not sure of USAF policy in effect regarding wearing the CIB on the date that photo was taken.

Sparks

Hondo at some point after, I can’t remember the date, I went in the Air Force in ’72 they stopped allowing prior Army to wear CIBs. Sorry I can’t remember when. I do remember seeing them though early on. Maybe it was even after i was out in ’77 it changed. I think, again after my time, the Air Force came up with an award or ribbon to replace a CIB. Someone please correct my poor memory here. Too much to keep up with after I left.

Army Medical

those look like civilian church shoes..

Sparks

dcm and how come a LTC can’t seem to tie his tie correctly and his trousers are off shade to his blouse?

Sparks

Sorry, this photo just bothers me. His heals are not together nor his feet at 45 degrees at the toes and his hands are not closed, thumb on forefinger knuckle, with his thumb resting on the crease of his trousers. Little details that to me made the difference between the stance of attention “with pride” and a “just whatever” pose.

Old Trooper

All the combat daring-do would have earned him the CAR; correct? I’m asking the Marines out there, since I am not as privy to the qualifications for such, since I was Army.

edUSMCleg

The way he is explaining it he should rate a CAR. I imagine anyone who would tell a story like that would most certainly bug their commander to put them in for one.

Sparks

edUSMCleg…Since you are a Marine I have a question sir. Are prior Army, Marines who earned the CIB allowed to wear it on a Marine uniform?

FatCircles0311

Car is apparently a personal award so your name has to be submitted. There are enough shitbags in the corps though that will abuse that and not submit names. It happened to me when I eas’d from fallujah and I wasn’t on the returning roster of the unit that was submitted.

Marine corps awards record and policy is fubar.

Combat Historian

Anti-military serial embellisher with a 1-4 record = LOSER!!!

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Those four knockouts he took must have dislodged the cognitive functionality from much of his brain pan…..along with the part about being honest and having at least some minimal integrity…

ArmyATC

It seems that lately, many of the fakes and liars are actual veterans who’ve had honorable service. Why the need to embellish and lie? I don’t understand it.

Ex-PH2©

Not getting enough attention, most likely.

Valkyrie

Also why are the ones who had a good service start lying and join the “antiwar” movement? It doesn’t make them look like they are anti-government it looks like they are against their fellow servicemen. I just don’t get it!

2/16

sometimes that 1 campaign star is just not enough for them to respect themselves.

Was in Panama during Just Cause. The fire was not caused by artillery. Panama City is too densely populated. There are many witnesses that said the fire was started the next morning by the Panamanians. I myself never fired my weapon. Too many civilians and the ROE in place at the time stated we had to be fired at first. Being a commo guy I got to drive all over the city and the only artillery battery I saw was at the American school near the back gate at Albrook. I don’t think they fired one round at the city. I think I would have heard it as I was at the back gate of Ft. Clayton on and off during the first night. Sounds like he turned into a lefty loon.

Just An Old Dog

This is from 2003?
Guy is full of shit he is claiming 2/9 then trying to say he was in K 3/6 for Panama. Not even in the same Division. 2/9 was in Oki for Desert Storm, but did do Somaia from dec92-Feb 93, They did get a CAR from that operatation.
Calling Bullshit on his boxing too. Camp Pendeltion had a base team, which I dont even think had all the weight divisions filled. There never was an All-Marine tournament held in San Diego at that time, or ever in my time. The Marine Corps Boxing team is Based out of Camp Lejuene, not Pendelton, all the tryouts are there.

Okay, I read the mush and if only half of what this clown was quoted as saying is true then he is, indeed, an asshole’s asshole. He’s the Shell Answer Man but, oddly enough, none of his answers are correct. I don’t care what his misrepresentations are or were: He’s a horse’s ass.

Green Thumb

Two more wins ties the Redskins.

We have no money.

I wonder if they can recruit this guy?

islandofmisfittoys

Sherman was JOTC and had nothing there it would have made no sense. Sherman did not have much at all and was for practical purposes a hole. I was there in Aug 93 with the 187th on a JOTC rotation and never recall doing any missle work. The Javilin was not even fielded until 1996 and Sherman would not have been the greatest spot to test it.

Ratt22

Island, I am currently on the team who train the Javelin to the US Army. I know the history of the Javelin and I have never heard of this dude. You are right about the fielding of the round in 1996. Our team consists of some Marines who do not recall this turd. If I hear anything else, I’ll post it here.

I had the (dis)honor to serve with this guy. My jaw dropped after reading the article he had written about him. This guy was a compulsive liar back in the day and has finally been outed. I would love to see the retraction article by the Northern Express, outing this character and shaming him in front of his home town. This guy has a honorable discharge from the Marine Corps and then goes on a tear with a reporter back home stating phony missions and down grading the military. What a P.O.S.! What I remember of him back in the early 90’s in 2/9, he was a slob and his hygiene was very much in question. Bathing was not on his list of duties. He loved to brag about how great of a boxer he was in Michigan. Looking at the record above, we now see that was another lie. Hopefully he finds out that he has been outed and lives with this embarrassment for the rest of his life. Go crawl back in the garbage, because you stunk back then and smell worse today. Loser!

Shane Surry

I had the unfortunate experience of serving with this clown with 2/9. After reading his Northern Express article, I almost wanted to vomit, knowing he never did any of the things mentioned. He was not one of those Marines you could count on or go to type. He was always disheveled and his personal hygiene needed some work. Baker always talked about how great of a boxer he was in Michigan. Seeing the boxing record above, add another lie to the pot. What a loser! Hopefully he is called out and embarrassed by the Northern Express.

T Patillo

I served with James Baker from 1990 to 1993. I normally do not hold grudges but Baker is a work of art. I never met a “white trash” before until I served with Baker. I remember when we were in the Philippines together, he had 3 fiance’s. He was such a loser that he could not get a woman here in the US and has to resort to marrying someone overseas. I remember when he got maced by a woman he tried to talk to because she got scared of him because he was so ugly. We then served in Somalia from 1992-1993. He had all his paychecks sent to his wife so he had no money. He spent 6 months on ship mooching money and cigarettes from everyone from the platoon. Everybody could not stand him. He had no friends. Nobody respected him. He treated the non-rates like crap. He would get drunk and pull people out of bed and knock them out. He is nothing but a loser and a coward. Shame on the Northern Express for posting lies about Baker making him seem like he was a hero when he is nothing but a zero.

D Burrell

After reading this, it cracks me up how people are judging Baker without knowing the kind of person he really is. Looks like everybody’s judgement on Baker is on the dot. I served with Cpl. Baker from 1990 to 1994. Not gonna say much, but he was a loser before he went in the Corps, he was a loser and dirt bag when he was in the Corps, and it appears he is even worse after he got out of the corps. There is this thing called growing up and maturity, and it appears Baker never experienced it. He will always be a “trailer trash.”

H Falk

I was googling some names that I served with and came upon this site regarding James Baker. I couldn’t believe that this P.O.S. told these gullible people back in Michigan he was some type of war hero. Hero? Lets say zero because he never did anything in the Corps. When I googled his name, I thought that I would see an Obit or jail record. I really don’t think anyone in the platoon liked this guy. Typical tough guy wanna-be who tried to live off his boxing rep. My only hope is he googles his name and sees this site and how he is caught red handed. Liar!

Jenna S.

Came across this site on Facebook. I am a former Marine. This guy appears to be an ultimate douche bag. I really feel sorry for him. He had to come up with all those lies to make himself feel better? He appeared to have burned many bridges during his Marine Corps career. I can almost guarantee you that this poor excuse of a human being does not have an Associates Degree and is just a community college drop out.

Devil Doc

Let’s make this short….I have more respect for a person that had a dishonorable discharge than I do with this idiot Baker.

Sgt Rock

OMG!!!! He definitely gives Marines a bad name. Actually, he gives trailer trash a bad name too!! So pathetic!!
