Marine sentenced for lying about injuries
Jim sends us a link to a brief article in WFAA about Michael Campbell, a former Marine who tried to scam people for his shot at the PGA based on lies about his war injuries;
A federal judge in Dallas sentenced Michael Campbell on Tuesday after he admitted to lying about war injuries to raise money so he could play golf on the PGA tour.
Campbell, 30, told donors that he was hurt in an an explosion that killed his comrades, saying doctors said golf would help his rehabilitation.
But that explosion never happened.
Campbell must also pay $41,000 in restitution.

In my book, defrauding a charity by lying about combat injuries is one hella huge “awsh!t”.

I took your original statement to be that he was previously a “good Marine”, and that you were somewhat puzzled by his behavior. I see now that that wasn’t the intent of your comment. My statement was simply me saying that sometimes bad acts outweigh past good performance.
Even apparently stellar people on occasion do inexplicable things. Sometimes it’s a one-time lapse; other times it’s indicative of an underlying, well-camouflaged character issue. It’s often hard to sort out which was the case when someone screws up unexpectedly.
In any case: my apologies for misinterpreting your original intent.

He was at one time a good friend of mine…and it is sad that he sunk that low…my wife is even saddened by this…but he did get what he deserves…I have none and never will have any sympathy for anyone that fakes their service…
